Is Lachie Ash someone we should be tapping on the shoulder to see if he'd be interested in a move. Pick 4 in the draft to GWS, has obvious talent, 21 years of age, 25 games, not sure he would cost us that much. Think he only has one more year left on his contract.
His behind Kelly, Coniglio, Green, Hopper, Taranto, and Whitfield and has been played out of position because its hard to push these guys out (Credits in the bank....)

He’s played 52 games in three seasons, seems pretty entrenched.

With the likelihood of Taranto, Hopper and Bruhn all departing the possibilities for him open up significantly.
Plus in all probability GWS are thinking that he is the next cab of the rank to a slot straight into the spots the above three vacate.

So IMO I reckon he stays put.

thanks, didn't think about the exodus. You're right he is next cab off the rank.

I like Cummings and Ash. Both have barely missed a game in two years. They give much needed outside run. As you say the fact they'll move the others means no way they don't stay.

AFAIK they want to Keep Ash and Green and then have the 4 players with high contracts. So Taranto and Hopper will likely be pushed out to solve their salary cap squeeze. Taranto has been linked to the dons. They will be pricks but hopefully GWS can extract pick 5 from them even if they have to give a second rounder back. My dream is then that we finish last and trade pick 1 and 26 for 4 and 5. Trade out future second plus our third rounder this year for the swans second first rounder. Walk away with Busslinger, (Whichever of the big name mids that slides), Kobe Ryan and Barnett. There's even a chance that Wardlaw is there at 4 in that scenario.

I think GWS would keep 4 and 5 however and draft Busslinger and a mid. But could see Both GWS and Essendon wanting more outside class particularly if Tsatas comes back and has a dominant back end of the year and the draft going Ashcroft, Sheezel, Tsatas, Phillipou and then we swoop. Take the best pure extractor, the best key defender/forward, the best ruck and my pet favourite.

It's nice to dream.

GWS probably get Collingwood's first for Hopper. So they look at a Tall forward with that pick. I don't rate either of Cadman or Jefferson as both are 50/50 shots on goal. Cadman probably a worse shot on goal but slightly more athletic and better hands but GWS need a developing tall.

Collingwood probably get end of first round compo for De Goey and if he's traded probably get pick 3 out of Adelaide for Grundy maybe with collingwood's future second going back. If this happens then we probably end up with Phillipou instead of Wardlaw which i'd be just as happy or happier with.

Alas all dreams and speculation.

Funny thing this draft, and what a difference a year makes. If anyone had said last year we could walk away with Hewett and Broadbent without any trades we would done the proverbial "start the car!" and felt we were laughing all the way to the bank. Still don't believe it would b a terrible result.

It's also paints the picture of why the draft is an inprecise science. Who knows what the draft order would look like if the draft age was increased to 19!

Not sure if mentioned over preceding 8,700 posts, but what do you guys reckon about trading down pick 2 for multiple first rounders to hedge our bets?

If we wanted to really test things, we could talk to Darling to see if he'd be keen on playing in Sydney, GWS would bite our hand off for a good key forward. That spot is a massive hole in their list. Could angle for the Pies pick they get for Hopper. We could then chase Buddy on a free to fill in for a year or two...

Pies are linked to McStay as an UFA and likely to lose de Goey as a FA. That should net off to no compensation.

Keeler is super high risk/reward. Too high risk for me. He's probably the Third tall off the board right now, maybe the second.

Agree with this. ⬆️

No doubt when he is good he is very good.
However he does go missing for big chunks during games.
He drifts in and out of games and even in and out of quarters.
Has all the tricks that you would ever want in a KPP ….. just lacks consistency for me.

He is both a “ tease “ and also one of the most intriguing players in this cohort.

Disagreed in a nice way, not keen to lose JD just yet!

So ... Jack Darling?

Its funny the rumours going round .
I've read Collingwood want Grundy to leave so they can sign degoey then bring in mcstay . This means its not just a FA compo swap with degoey>mcstay.

GWS wants Grundy but want Collingwood to pay some of his 1 million a year salary .

Toranto to Richmond as a dusty replacement

Hopper to essendon as they need a BBM

Bruhn to Geelong as GWS can't increase his salary

Also hearing Adelaide trying to pry JHF out of norf with pick 3 🥕 . Norf could do alright with pick 3 and future 2nd for the guy who doesn't want to be there .

So ... Jack Darling?

He has more tricks than Jack but is even more inconsistent.

What he does have is the ability to have a stint as a genuine ruckman, he is 198cm with a big leap and amazing mobility.
For his height his athleticism is off the chart’s.

I also think that he could play CHB and by being forced to be accountable on an opponent, this could teach / force him to be more focused….. that could help him stay more fully engaged in games.

Keeler IMO, has the tools to play in any tall position down the spine.

Only down side is that I haven’t seen him do a Ninja Flip.

There's talk about him getting more time on the ball and being more balanced - but it's just talk. I think the recruiters know that elite bulls are top of the food chain and elite balanced mids just below. I don't think recruiters in this day and age will spend a top 6 or 7 pick on an outside mid.

One dimensional inside mids are less valuable than balanced mids IMO.

Why would a mid who is elite both as a bull and also is elite on the spreadand with skills worth less than a one trick pony?

That makes no sense.

What's with the straw argument?

Tsatas is probably the one good prospect I’d want to avoid specifically for us tbh

I don’t mind if we do take Tsatis he’s a pact line breaker and I do think we need that type around the midfield..
As all we have is old man Shuey and maybe Kelly..

Seems like a fair question. Why would an elite inside bull be rated an elite balanced midfielder, who presumably - by virtue of being elite and balanced - is also an elite inside player?

I don’t see the straw.

You would want them to stump up around half that wouldnt you?

We need breakaway speed. Not only from centre bouncedowns but also when we are transitioning from the back line through to the half forward line and beyond.
