Great news for Jarryd. Serious achievement getting this far without ever playing the game previously.
I wish him all the best. Would love to see him get a return TD in week 1.
I'd just not read the papers for the next couple of days :p

I'm about to go see a super hot European chick and get validation of my character in the real world.

Oh that's so nice for you. Must be annoying that they don't open the brothel until 12 on a Sunday. Happy Fathers day to you. :D

In B4 12. :p

I have posted dozens of times in the Packers thread for years... But yeah didn't expect to be met so harshly

Welcome to the world of in-breeding.:drunk:

The aspect of the coverage that does my head in the most is the lack of understanding of NFL rosters.

They are fluid. Every roster will look very different by week 17.

Teams play strategy with roster management as much as they do with X & O's. Look at New Orleans are a prime example of this. They play all sorts of games trying to get players on and off the practice squad. Currently the Saints have only 4WRs & 2TE's in the 53. There is no way they go into week 1 without another receiver. So I would suspect they have more confidence of a cut receiver clearing waivers now than they do another player. If you suspect there's an opposition team ready to pounce then you'll wait out them filling the spot from elsewhere. Or, they are talking to a team about a trade. Either way their 53 will change this week.
Same thing with the Vikings. They have 26 players on offence, which is probably one or two players too many. They've already traded for an OL from the Chargers and I'd guess there's more to come.

As you say, every team is doing this sort of thing on a day by day basis. One of the Move the Sticks podcasts discussed a typical week for a head coach, there's so much more than just game preparation.

A whole OL from the Chargers? :p

And since we're talking roster moves and feel good stories, let's praise Tim Hightower resurrecting his career by making the cut in NO.

Two years out of the NFL is a hell of a comeback.

I don't think he is going to be active in week 1 - Bush was never really the competition for the punt returning spot, it was Bruce Ellington who is still on their list.

I think it's probably going to take a bit of air out of the story... but they aren't going to have 2 active punt returners, and Ellington as a 5th WR is worth more than Hayne as a 4th RB.
Ellington will be the #3 WR and his roster spot was never in doubt. If they planned on using Ellington as the PR again this season, then I don't see why Hayne would be on the 53 man roster. Allowing a roster spot to be used on a backup PR seems unlikely.

I think we'll see Hayne active in week 1 and returning the 1st punt of the season. I'd also be surprised if he isn't given at least one snap on offense.

Your avatar must smell like shit, there's always a fly there on my screen.

too soon?

it's no longer too soon, the dream is over, it's reality now!

So happy for him, leaving one sport and throwing it all in for a shot at another despite overwhelming odds against making it, immense amount of cajones shown, well done to him.

Great effort for a guy with no playing experience.

Not sure why guys like arakaan are going on about though.

We've bagged/doubted the crap out of big name college players coming into the NFL, anyone want to retrieve the Tebow threads? Cam Newton, Winston, RBs, WRs.

Plenty of very good college athletes that we doubted could translate to NFL. But if they do become successful guys on here acknowledge it.

Think the RL guys here have been a little too precious trying to validate a game that.......lets face it.....no one gives a shit about...certainly not genuine real rugby fans or going by attendances.

What does the size of the organisation have to do with anything (let alone whether the 49ers are a large one)

The 49ers have one of the weakest backfields/return games in the league. They were an ideal team for him.

Your comment makes no sense at all.

Are Collingwood and st Kilda the same size? No. St Kilda is a smaller organization/club. You appear to follow the nfl so I'll assume you were just taking the pss.

Last years 49ers didn't have Bush, Davis or Hunter. They are a very different backfield this year.

Choosing SF was a genius move if only for Tomsula's experience with international players.
