Copying the St Kilda blueprint.......

err...no.

If you actually looked at how Crows played by taking the game on, flicking the ball round and moving fwd fast at every opportunity.........it was more like watching Geelong play Geelong......except Crows out did them at their own game with Geelong at near full strength.

St Kilda play surge footy based on defensive structures. Nothing like these 2 sides. Sure, Crows tackles and pressure were good (which is what you need to beat Cats) - but their pressure was nowhere near St Kilda pressure when we are on.

Good game. Well done Crows.:thumbsu:

Yer, this. Adelaide played more like Geelong than St Kilda. Lots of possession and lots of fast ball movement and playing on at all costs.

Was a wonderful game to watch. geelong are incredible the way you can be four goals up against them and in the blink of an eye they suddenly get back to within a goal.

Oh and Selwood was robbed, that ball was a goal.

The only thing they 'copied' was tough footy, Geelong don't like it ;)

You know, that's crap. How many times have opposition teams dished up their best effort, the most pressure they can muster, playing us? And yet we have won more of those games than we have lost. Sure, it makes it harder for us to play like we would like, but we're a hard, physical team, don't forget that.

Nope, classical "bump ball" off the post, was more surprised for me that the ump called it from his angle but the replay from front on showed it was a bump ball scenario, minor deflection because contact was almost simultaneous to the ground and the force was insufficient to deflect to any noticeable level. However, since the front on replay was slowed down via frame rate you saw a blurred footy in regards to where it was to where it then went to in the next frame, which denoted contact to the post at the point of impact with the ground.

So a pure arse call from where the ump was situated, but a correct one for mine.

Hate to disagree with a fellow Sainter but have a look at the way the Crows kept possession with short lead up kicks and spread to ensure they had free players.

I'm prepared to give him (the unmpire) the benefit of the doubt because he really was in best position - you could see a very minor deflection.

In any case, it makes no difference, because Adelaide won by 11.

Was like watching the Saints tonight the way the Crows handled Geelong. Will be interesting to see if other sides follow suit.....

I didn't know the Saints blueprint involved relying on half of the Geelong team to put in an absolute stinker.

That's right, half of Geelong kicked all of Adelaide's goals, and tackled, pressured, harrassed and chased all night long.

You're right, I guess it WAS only Geelong....

You perhaps should have been a little more specific and mentioned this in your OP. i noticed that too.

When Adelaide were 21 points up tonight I remember thinking to myself "Look at Geelong, they are completely lost at the moment? How the hell did a team like Adelaide do that to them?"

Then I remembered how we did it - pressure, pressure, pressure and spread the ball around and get players free.

The commentators then made a comment about how similar it was to the St Kilda game.

But Adelaide played more like Geelong than St Kilda overall tonight.

That's the way to beat them, too. Let's face it.

Another thing, not really related to the topic but how many times did Geelong fumble tonight. Surely we won't see them fumble the ball again that much for quite some time?

No doubt Crows - as has most sides now - adopted some of St Kildas frontal pressure game but if you had to nominate a style Adelaide played tonight....it was far more Geelong.

They took risks - saints dont.
They played on at all costs - saints dont
They linked up with handball with several options round the stoppages for the quick flick handball out - aka Geelong.

Not once did they appear to "slow" the game as St Kilda's tempo footy often does.

Sure their field kicking was good with shprt lead up work - Geelong do that also, dont think Saints have the market cornered there.

Nup, much more Geelong in style tonight for me.

just frontal pressure

zone - copy of Hawthorn 2008 (which was an improvement of Adelaide's zone of 2005)
attack - based on West Coast of 2006
frontal pressure - the only thing we've coped from St Kilda (circa 2009)

Six days after a finals like game, and 20 minutes after the club doctor suffers a heart attack in front of the 22 players in the warm-up, Cats went into this game physically and emotionally handicapped. On top of that Crows played inspirational football.
