Someone upset over the liberals not sticking to their principles of sinking the boots into the poor and unemployed?

Here's a quote from the treasurer today, insisting that the dole should go back to what it was once the pandemic is over:

"I believe that Australia has a fair and decent welfare safety net."

I mean, have your ideological bent all you like, but speaking shit like that is an insult to everyone's intelligence.

New Zealand is an Australian State under our Constitution.

Just sayin.
It was never proclaimed as a state by the Govoner General though. At the time of writing in 1900 New Zealand was still on the table, also western Australia hadn't agreed to becoming a part of Australia yet ( tid bit they only agreed under the condition that a railroad would be built from Perth to Adelaide- what didn't happen until after WW1 where many ex servicemen were given jobs on the railroads)

It refers that New Zealand is state in the definitions section, but also any other such territories or colonies later admitted (looking at you NT)

I think it's their constitution that matters here, we can't even beat them at rugby, what chance do we have in war :).

I know this is a joke but our defensive force out numbers them 10-1

Does that mean we have too big a defense force? Dunno

When real people go on it, they instantly need double the money to live on. The scum who can't find a job or are unwell but don't qualify for disability.. they can survive just fine on 200 a week

The force multiplication effect of defending the homeland (and a spread out population and bunch of mountains) would come into play.

Would be an interesting sim to run.

Yeah but before COVID, unemployed people were just lazy people who couldn't be bothered taking one of the tens of thousands of jobs that the economy was desperate to fill but couldn't. The unemployed people now can't help it, they're victims of a weakened economy.

I think.

NZ has a population less than QLD with most being on the North Island.

It would be no contest.

So Trump will reveal that this virus is related to an outbreak from the Wuhan biolabs.
Saying that they have evidence of poor practical behaviour in these labs is not enough. They have to prove SPECIFICALLY that this virus was released via poor compliance. I understand that inspections have been conducted that identified poor compliance practices, but who is to say they did not act to remediate those issues?
Working on viruses for the purpose of global goodwill needs to be condoned.
If this was a lab mistake then I am sympathetic, provided there was no intent to modify the virus as part of their weaponry. There is no evidence for that.
What this virus has done is to provide rogue states with the perfect template for mass worldwide hysteria. All they need is a few rogue scientists to achieve that ambition - bringing them up to speed on genetic modification.

Rather embarrassing for Trump’s great homeland

I do not think the US is going to fully control this pig while Donald Trump is in office. He has no idea about bringing the country together and chooses to deflect criticsm by blaming others. If it is not the Chinese it is the WHO and if it isn't either of them it is the Democrats. In a reversal Trump has allowed White House infectious disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci to testify before the Senate. In announcing this magnanimous gesture Trump had this to say, 'the House is a set-up. The House is a bunch of Trump haters.' What Trump doesn't understand is whether they are asked in the the House of Representatives or in the Senate the questions will still be the same. Democrats will not be prevented from asking questions and given there are a few prominent Republicans questioning where the country is heading the questions may not be from one side of US politics.

When he was elected many good judges questioned if Trump's lack of a political background would impede his ability to govern in an efficient and effective manner. I think COVID-19 has given them their answer. Trump has not responded well to pressure and some of his more recent deluded rants and ridiculous gaffs are an indication that the pressure is getting to him.

Leaked White House projections now show that unless something significant happens the US will reach 200,000 COVID-19 cases per day and 6,000 deaths per day in June. Those are not Democrat figures but the White House's own modelling. If it reaches that stage the world's largest economy will surely be on it's knees and that is not good news for the rest of the world.

When the rest of the G20 comes together to chip in and fund research to find a vaccine for COVID-19 the US, the country that probably needs it the most, joins Russia and China on the outer. Just plain crazy.

You know want they say, one’s true self is revealed during a crisis.

Nicola Spurrier at SA Covid presser ( all her comments and questions).

0 new case - 14 days straight

2 active cases - both in hospital. 99% recovered

Both are covid infectious free, but still in hospital

Testing 1,512 tests yesterday thru SA pathology 63,000 now done which is 3.33% of population tested.

I am asked here, where would we see our next cases from? - biggest risk from interstate travel

28,000 people entered SA since "borders closed." Well done SA - but cannot be complacent.

Do vulnerable people still have to take precautions? - yes, then lists a few of these vulnerable groups.

The sad thing is the contradiction will be completely ignored.

Thoughts that often cross my mind recently:

- What is Trump prepared to do to win the next election?
- Did the Queen ask Morrison to use Australia as a test case for reopening businesses?
- With nearly 10% unemployed at the time of Australia's next election, is Morrison really stupid enough to reduce Jobstarter back to what it was
- How the hell am I going to survive a second wave if it hits (being 2 years older than the British PM that nearly died of it)
- Will Eddie get it?
- If so, when can we wear the prisonbars fulltime.

Edit:
- If 28,000 people entered SA since "borders closed" were they really closed?

It is against the constitution to literally close the borders. What they mean by that is people had to go into quarantine.

I know we shouldn't necessarily bow to the casually racist masses, but returning to China represents a massive risk for PAFC moving forward

Chinese Yuan or Aussie Dollars in sponsorship - it may well be a real choice

I know Mick's a nutter but the poll is pretty conclusive

(I voted yes - that's why it's blue)

Given the normal comments following any article in the Advertiser I’d be surprised to see any other result.

I’m pretty much in favour of continuing with China. We’re going to be hurting financially and unless there is a nationwide boycott of China I can’t see the point of us not continuing.
The impact of losing an AFL game won’t affect the Chinese Government at all, basically they won’t care.
While I can see why some will say leaving China is the “right” thing to do I’m not sure the club should be in the business of international politics.
