Can't believe they had this Weimar dude just chilling as transport minister while the rest of the Vic gov tried to lick their own elbows last year.

The one impressive politician through this whole thing.
Been amazing. Straight to the point, doesn't take the bait from the journos.

Barely looks at the papers in front of him and knows all the stats. Been one of the most impressive over the last 2 years.

The UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948) specifically forbids cruel and unusual punishment

How about cutting off every second finger?!

Sorry Mofra, the following rant is not directed at you, just a follow-on from references to punishment.

Weimar showed significant frustration yesterday. These 3 useless pr1cks have, in spite of red zone passes being valid, flaunted the criteria that comes with them. Visited numerous sites instead of remaining in vehicles, failed to wear masks, drove across 3 states, continued to mix with other people after being advised they were close contacts of positive cases. And now both they and the f***-knuckle they work for are refusing to comply with requests for a full list of sites they have visited. And media and others are throwing around the "language barrier" challenge! FMD, if they are working as removalists acorss three states, then their language capability must be enough to drive a vehicle, undertsand road rules, and purchase goods at various road stops, etc, and interact with several families they were employed by. We live in an age and a country where language is effectively NO barrier (as distinct from culture). And I come from a family background where numerous elderly relatives post-WW2 had to navigate Australian society with no language support after arriving from o/s.

Wemar and his SA counterpart should make their way to the NSW border with each of our respective states, gathering a mob on the way, arming all with pitch-forks, tar, feathers, etc, and demanding the NSW authorities hand over the removalists, and all owners/managers of the company they work for. Once the NSW authorities comply, it is no longer of any concern to the NSW authorities what the Vic and SA lynch mobs do with these f***ers.

I have no end of sympathy, empathy and respect for members of our community who are faced with English as a second langauage, BUT make the effort to engage. I have less than zero for dumb-ar5e f***-wits who ignore 18 months of pandemic experience to spread the Delta variant across 3 states, and then have bleeding hearts play the "language barrier" on their behalf. There is NO excuse for their actions. NONE. Beat the b4stards to a pulp, so the next ones who consider doing the same thing have a nice little precedent of community response to their actions.

And I'd like this applied to all flouters of not just rules, but common, moral decency. Regardless of race, religion, gender, etc. Weimar talked about throwing the book at people. I really hope his reference was figurative.

(For context, I am often a bleeding heart myself, when I feel someone has been hard done by. This is not a sceanrio that requires bleeding hearts.)

End of rant, enjoy your day everyone, cheerio.

My cardiologist told me yesterday not to get some blood tests that she wants done if we go into lockdown. She doesn't want me to go out into the public. I was planning on going tomorrow. I will have to cancel my physical therapy on Monday as well as an AgedCare representative visiting me on Wednesday(unless it's over by then). How quickly things change. I'm too old for change!

LOL Zsa Zsa was looking at the TV when Anastasia came on the screen. She jumped away. Damn. I'm raising a Liberal cat.

They should just make it official policy that there will be a lockdown the second there is a local community case, because it will end up happening regardless. Save everyone the misery of the 3-4 press conferences a day.

Just a heads up on his previous roles - Weimar is the former CEO of PTV, and before that seemed to have a career where he displayed above average capability in various roles in the UK. Certainly had no hesitation fronting the media when head of PTV, and dealing matter-of-factly with issues with train services, VLine, etc. Personally, I'd be happy to see Weimar and Sutton running the entire COVID response and management in Victoria (and Allen Cheng), with Martin Foley giving goverment over-sight. The first 3 all come across as more than competent operators (assuming minimal political interference), and Foley seems the most pragmatic (and least prone to political spin) of the state government ministers involved. Not sure who the equivalent of Foley would be in the Feds though, as political spin (and buck-passing) is the over-riding mantra of the majority of politicians at a Federal level. The most pragmatic one I can think of in the NSW govt is Matt Kean, the environment minister, who is a rare beast in that he seems to have separated environmental needs from base partisanship. Given yesyerday was Bastille Day, maybe this is the time for a revolution here. Let's overthrow all these political charlatans with their snouts in the trough, and elevate the Keans, Foleys, Steggalls and Wilkies of the country to a genuine cross-party national cabinet. (Yes, sadly I know this is incredibly idealistic, and usually (almost always!) ends up in even the most principled politicians being consumed by the political machine and machinations, and compromising their principles faster than you can say "WTF"!)

Sorry, went off on a rambling rant again, and in spite of my best intentions, I keep getting sucked back into this thread.

Another lockdown, yay.

Do we get a commemorative T shirt for this one?

"I survived lockdown <enter number and state/Federal jurisdiction here>"

with optional poo and/or COVID emoji, available with matching face mask.

For the first 50 callers, we will double the offer, and if you provide proof of a negative test in the past 48 hours, we will give you a 10% discount.

I really wish this wasn't the easiest prediction in the world to make.

Its not the worst outcome though. The worst outcome would be if our government decided to wait until it got completely out of control before doing anything. I'm confident they'll crush this in five days.

Did I hear correctly that now 3 strangers picked up Delta at the MCG in open air seating a few rows away from the original infected guy?

He was one of those loud barrackers

Oh I agree that it was the best avenue to take.

Were only dealing with this shit because a bunch of window lickers north of the border couldnt make a similar sensible decision.

I'll inhale some of that hopium about the 5 days too but I suspect that was just a selling point to not crush Melbourne's spirit.

In the same article:

"This virus has travelled from Sydney"

"Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has insisted he won’t be drawn into “sneering” commentary about other states"

The one impressive politician through this whole thing.

He's not a politician. He's a public servant who was in-charge of PTV until Andrews brought him over to run the then spluttering contact tracing program.

He was always well versed in his brief when talking about trains, trams and buses and is equally so when dealing with a pandemic.

You can draw your own conclusions from that.

Edit: See Footscray1973 post above.

POTY

Throw the f****** book at these removalists and f*** NSW as well. Gladys d****** around up there has contributed and the cow dares to scoff at Victoria today. We will have this thing done while they’re still dithering and doing their half arsed ‘lockdown‘ for weeks.
