I don't think that's the case at all . You are the one who challenged me in perhaps a derogatory fashion, as you did a couple of weeks ago. Remember. When it really wasn't much of an issue.

I've made it perfectly clear a number of times what people should be doing and if you can't work out why or how that opinion's been formed after all that's been said and occurred then I'm sorry I can't help you any more

Again. Point scoring without giving any real information.

Lots of extremely fit 25 year old men dieing?

So we should do a China and lock people in their homes?
It is contagious before you show symptoms.

So once a player or staff member test positive, it’s too late. They’ve already been playing and spreading the virus.

Those players have families. Children in daycare and school.

They won’t be immune from getting it. Nor will they be immune from spreading it, both within the footy community and outside the footy community.

You seem to keep dodging the questions and making things personal so it comes across as point scoring and just trying to pump yourself up.

For someone so well researched you seem more focussed on pointing out people doing the wrong thing instead of putting forward what they should be doing and how you've been informed of this opinion
Well Flight Centre just announced they are closing 100 underperforming stores, due to the down turn in tourism and travel bans associated with coronavirus.

Turn on the ABC news channel and have it on in the background. There have been many public news conferences from various businesses, sporting event officials, health officials and government ministers this morning.

Amateur sports are starting to cancel their events.
Spartan races have now been cancelled that were scheduled in late March in Victoria (I assume it will be the same throughout the rest of Australia).

Yet so many people think the AFL season should carry on as if there is nothing to see here.

That's the same as everybody not just footballers.

I've put up all the information numerous times on this thread and another one as to how I've formed my opinion , which btw is /has been the opinion of any reputable epidimeologist world wide.

Why on earth I would need to point score against you is a mystery to me. I am merely refuting your suggestions as completely alien to the view of the experts as to how these issues should be handled and just trying to help people so they are prepared . And not compromising their health.

Which is more than one liner propositions that won't fly in these circumstances.

But you refuse to answer a simple question like; should all levels of sport be cancelled

Why should I answer that. How would I know. But it's likely to happen at least to a major degree

It's not a school debate. We're not doing this for fun.

Why are you continually trying to get a rise out of me.

The purpose of this thread is to help people.

Your purpose seems to be to sit like a sniper in a tree and take pot shots at anyone who's trying to do that.

As has been pointed out, footballers partake in an activity that is highly conducive for spreading the virus.

Most contact or active group sports fall in to this category.

Players spit and blow their nose on to the field, other players slide over the spit. They sweat a lot, touch each other, rub their face etc.

People cough, droplets become airborne and can be breathed in by those sitting close.

The virus spreads in exactly the same way as the common cold and flu. If it spreads to the same extent, then we will see the mortality rate rise sharply.

If we can contain and limit the spread, we will keep the mortality rate down.

The other issue with football clubs is that because of the close interaction in training sessions with players/trainers/physios/coaches etc once one player is confirmed the whole club shuts down.

So in these circumstances it seems unlikely we'll get a start to the season in the likelihood a confirmed case comes in over the next week or so.

Just trying to get information.

It was a genuine thought I had when we were discussing the AFL. Does it shut down all sport at every level?

And you're passing yourself off as well researched at least enough to think the AFL should be cancelled/postponed.

Economically there is going to be a huge negative impact on our economy and society with what ever approach the governments take.

Right now we are seeing the stock market crash. It’s now down 30% from its high last week.

We will see job losses.

We will see businesses close.

We will see daycare centres temporarily shut down. This will pull essential workers out of the workplace.

My workplace is expecting to lose 20% of staff when this occurs.

If schools close, that figure will go up.

This is a damned if you do, damned if you don’t event.

OK . You're really a nice person and I'm a phony.

No worries.

Any more or are we finished ?

The Canadian PM’s wife has tested positive to Coronavirus.
Big news.

You wouldn't think stocks could get punished any more but everyone's factoring in a worldwide recession now.

The best thing that could happen is worldwide stringent containment for a month or so .

Seems difficult medicine and unlikely to happen. But we in this country having the comfort of distance could really help ourselves but taking the hard path as early as possible.

Surely the Federal Government will have to intervene or even enact legislation accordingly that will prevent financial institutions from defaulting people on mortgages, car / personal loans etc as a result of missing a payment or two. This should also extend to utility providers being unable to disconnect people's basic utility services if their electrical / gas bills are outstanding (particulalry if their offices close and people are unable to get them reconnected).

You'd even think that VCAT and the like will have to go easy on tenants that miss their rents etc.because I dare say this will have a massive impact on landlords wanting to issue notice to vacates and the like for tenants that haven't paid their rent after 14 days etc. Of course, there is the other side of the coin with landlords that will miss mortgage payments because their tenants aren't paying rent etc.

There are just so many implications that will need to be addressed because illness aside, many are going to be impacted for reasons Jpw22511 highlighted that are not illness related.

Interesting times...

And already I am hearing people complain that the F1 Grand Prix Corporation have made the wrong decision to cancel the Melbourne race...you know, because they bought tickets, travelled etc etc. and its unfair...like anyone could forsee this.

We’ll find out if Aussie’s care about their mates or are all driven by money.

Like I’ve said before will this virus change America and health care? Cause their system has slowly making its way here and I hate it.

My wife teaches at a local Anglican school on the GC and they have been advised the virus peak will be mid-May but they expect to close the school before then.

Teachers are currently preparing weekly homework packs and looking into daily class Skype sessions.

Saw an article somewhere (so many, I forget) that us oldies and aged care residents will probably be left to fend for ourselves i.e. not given ICU beds if younger people need them...

...oh joy!

Everything should be shut down now, take it by the scruff of the neck and try to stop it in its tracks. This bit here and a bit there is pointless and dangerous.
