Exactly. Early on, the usual Liberal hating left wing suspects were accusing Morrison and his govt of exaggerating the crisis for political purposes. Now the same pawl faced hypocrites are abusing him for supposedly not doing enough. They will never set aside their political agenda, no matter what the circumstances.

When the ban on travellers from China was introduced there were many on the "woke left" saying it was RACIST!!

Incredible but true.

Billy the blimp gets it. hed be in a risky category

Former AFL player Billy Brownless blamed the image of a crowded Bondi Beach that circulated social media on Friday as an instigator for the Federal Government’s decision.

“They’ve really fired up after that, and they’re going to come down hard after that,” Brownless said.

However, Channel 9 political editor Chris Uhlmann was more blunt in his assessment of the situation.

"Even from what the Prime Minister said today, all non-essential travel, that is the end of the AFL and NRL season. That is before the national cabinet tonight,” Uhlmann said.

Need an Olympic village type lockdown area and just play the same oval for the next couple of months.
Was thinking the same thing: Lock down all 18 squads plus support staff and umpires and one set of medicos and a few media/TV at a single venue. Play a game or two a day for two months and re-assess the season after that.

For many, severe symptoms requiring hospitalization and intensive care do not arise until at least a week into the illness. There will be some amongst that mild group who will develop severe illness. The cytokine storm happens very late.

The exact same can be said for full recoveries (which can also be an outcome for serious cases, it's not always death).

Me too. Worry is they aren't backing up the tough rhetoric with action.

Stop trying to make out it's all the Govt's fault. There are plenty of people who think the Govt is doing a good job in a difficult situation and that Morrison is showing wartime-like leadership.
The anti-Govt block hates to think that might be the case, as it diminishes their left-wing agenda.

They also would hate to hear of some of the socially-progressive initiatives in the Govt's economic stimulus package today - 189 billion (= 10% of the economy) and initiatives as doubling JobSeek payment. They cant criticise those.

Bahahah left wing agenda?

Jesus

Morrison and his govt are absolutely useless. People are actually think otherwise are the ones with an agenda

Better to disperse the teams and do so in 3 locations as I've suggested.

If you have them in 1 location, 1 positive test shuts down the whole competition.

If you have them dispersed in 3 locations 1 positive test only shuts down the 6 teams in that location.

That level of organization could probably save a few hundred deaths if applied with elsewhere with real priority. Could AFL clubs resources be playing a part in the community better?

Here is the solution for the AFL Season 2020.

Split the 18 teams into 3 Groups of 6.

First Rotation
6 Teams in Victoria (MCG & Etihad)
6 Teams in Northern Territory (Darwin & Alice Springs)
6 Teams in Tasmania (Launceston & Hobart)

Yes - get special dispensation from Tasmania & NT but I'm sure with proper screening this could be arranged. If not, go somewhere else first.

Play the other 5 teams over the next 4 weeks.

Then go to the Second Rotations
6 teams in Victoria (MCG & Etihad)
6 teams in WA-Perth (Perth Stadium)
6 teams in Queensland (Gabba & Gold Coast)

Play other 5 teams over next 4 weeks.

Then go to the Third Rotation
6 teams in Victoria (MCG & Etihad)
6 teams in SA-Adelaide (Adelaide Oval)
6 teams in NSW (SCG & Giants Stadium)

Play other 5 teams over next 4 weeks.

Between the rotations you might have a 2 week break.

Splitting the competition in 3 gives flexibility.

If there is a positive test - only that team and the other 5 teams in that region need to stand down. The two other regions can KEEP PLAYING.

This gives the league flexibility to deal with a positive test - and it also means the league cuts down significantly on travel.

Essentially you can play the season in 3 4 week blocks with games every night coming from a different region. 2 week breaks in between.

It also respects travel restrictions and is more in line with community sentiment than teams flying back and forth across the country every week.

Of course I have picked out 7 regions. That doesn't have to be set in stone. Maybe NT wouldn't agree with this. Fair enough. I'm sure Tasmania would agree to host 6 AFL Teams for a month - even if it means a 2 week quarantine period up front. Maybe you put them in the second rotation.

This is a solution to get this season played and create immense flexibility in the draw.

Thoughts?

Who cares. Just award the Premier this week and have a grand final.

So the suspension of an AFL season wouldn't be attributed to a positive test result of a player - it would be due to a reaction by a state government.

Funny that.

We are cooked once individual states close their borders.

Tasmania, Queensland, South Australia and Northern Territory already, as much as they can anyway.

ACT chief minister just said two minutes ago that people should not be leaving Canberra (closing borders is impossible).

Not entirely sure what you mean. I reckon the Federal Liberal govt and the State Labor govt in Victoria have both done a fantastic job, and I fully support both of them in this situation. I’m certain other state govts of either political persuasion have also excelled. Once this crisis is over then normal hostilities can resume. I’m pleased that you at least can put aside your personal political feelings for the greater good. Unfortunately, based on some of the pettiness displayed here, many can’t.

ANY other government would be doing better. He’s the most horrific leader the country has ever had. Bring back Abbott ffs.

Most governments would have struggled if not all governments

You've been using this thread to score points against those on the left, mate.

The exact same can be said for full recoveries (which can also be an outcome for serious cases, it's not always death).
Mortality of 81-97% amongst ventilated patients, >60% in those critically ill. Given the number who are mild in the early phases dwarfs the number who are severe, the transition from mild to severe is much greater than the reverse. Perhaps IL-6 (and likely IL-1) inhibitors will help reverse this in some, but I am not hopeful of a miracle cure.

All of these state closures would be worthless if we've closed the nation's borders anyway. It is a moot-point as water from one end of a pool moving to the other is still in the same pool.

If these reactions are to happen, then the only thing that would make actual sense (or any impact) is a full-scale lockdown for specified amount of time - this doesn't mean a low-end outcome wouldn't have happened, but it would fast forward it (trading economical impact for time).

Anything else such as this is a waste of time and a further impact on the stress-levels of an already hysterical population.

Mate, he locked the wuhan evacuees in christmas island fro two weeks SEVEN weeks ago. An exaggeration but understandable as much was unknown back then

(no one had the virus)

Now people who have been on a cruse ship docked in sydney with known cases just saunter off home with some half hearted "please self isolate"

I'm all for supporting the govt we have and complying with instructions, but the danger is now more well known (especially after another cruise ship pandemic in the meantime) and the resolve appears to have gone to water The Australians who left the cruise ship in japan also went to organized two week isolation here once they arrived.

Its a case of EXACTLY what you are using as a post to berate others
