"Depression" - mate you need to do some research - USA has only ever had one depression and that occurred because Herbert Hoover sat on his a*** for 3 years following the collapse of the share market in 1929.

When Roosevelt won in 1932 and introduced the "New Deal" in 1933 he revived the US economy to such an extent that it fully recovered to pre 1929 levels.

Fast forward to today and you see govts responding within months or even weeks rather than waiting years.

As for Trump - yeah in his own mind he never fails. As long as he doesn't die he'll consider it a success irrespective of the impacts.
Kholer on the ABC said the same thing. Nothing done for four years. 1933 was when stimulus was done in the US.

Has been done worldwide within two months of the outbreak.

No mistake 2020 will be bad. Real bad, but IMF looking at 2021 as a recovery year.

China's first report came in on the 23rd Jan, and the first time cases dropped was 23rd Feb.

So it was effectively a month of exponential increase in cases until it tapered off.

Italy is slowly starting to taper off - they reported cases for the first time on Feb 22nd, and the decline began March 22nd.

Our first report of cases came through on March 3rd, so going by trends of other countries you'd expect that if we can get through to the end of next week, then the spread will slow.

I feel better than I did yesterday, still a sore throat and a bit of light headedness, got an appointment this afternoon. Confident it's a head cold but we'll see.

Fingers crossed. It's natural that anyone experiencing virus like symptoms just now will fear the worst, but of course are always bugs going around.

I think it was a wizard of ID cartoon i read years ago, two peasants talking.

"what's the difference between a depression and a recession "?
" a recession is when we have no money "
" a depression is when they have no money"

Surely its not just the time factor though, by isolating we are slowing it down, but it also means less people are exposed, so it could last longer.

It'll last until we find a vaccine, regardless if we flatten the curve or not. I'm just saying based on the data it's usually a month before it begins to taper off / we put measures in place to slow it.

I don't particularly mind staying at home, social distancing, etc. I quite enjoy my own company. I just want things to go back to normal as quickly as possible.

Look it may well be right, but i'm sick of hearing that someone has the inside word and we should all get ready for the lockdown.
When it happens it will happen.

Logically we have not yet had time to see how well the latest measures are doing, we are looking at the results from 2 weeks ago.

We still have a reasonable rate of "serious" cases which is the aim.
If we have 50 000 mild cases all in quarantine , not infecting anyone , and 20 serious, and no deaths, that's great.
In a lot of countries ( including USA ) they get serious, then they test them.
In Indonesia they pick them up out of the street.
I’m happy to hear it, so where’s that leave us?.

How about we just move on instead of trying to censor people, the insight from everyone including from posters living in other states and countries has been great imo.

No Morrison fan, but FMD, this is a poison chalice.

The guy looks stuffed and they are doing their best.
Let's be honest if he was an AFL player and every week he had his performance reviewed it would be:
OUT: Scommo
IN: Daniel Andrews

You lot are far too lenient. I thought that press conference was an absolute shit show. Morrison failing to deliver a clear & concise message. Murphy way out of his depth & came across as a bumbling fool. How he is the chief medical officer is beyond me. He gives me zero confidence.
The chief medical officer seems like a patsy

My parents live in Gippsland, and they said there have been busses full of Asian appearing people raiding the shops there. ( Toilet paper again ).
FFS How hard is to limit the stuff and call the cops if this sort of crap happens.
Theory is its being sent overseas.
Won't be getting sent overseas anymore. Border forces now allowed to confiscate bulk shipped items and redistribute in Aus.

I like Paul Little , some people , i'm not sure if they are lying or not.
Paul Little , i know he is.
The Grand Prix is going ahead ( after the teams and drivers pulled the pin ) a recent example.

When i suggested on another thread they should grab it off the hoarders under the Emergency Powers, one particular poster got his nose out of joint.
I think he outed himself as a hoarder.:D

All I can say is lucky we don’t get cruise ships stopping here like nsw. Surely that is major reason out figured have stabilised and they haven’t. It’s great news we have stabilised because the figures wouldn’t really include any of the isolation things put in place in the last week if not more. Great signs

My daughter works as a casual in a Pub In the south Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, so naturally she is out of work.
She was given some list of jobs to apply for .

First one up, a Call Centre in the CBD. So rail travel ( doubt if call centre comes with car parking ), mixing with a heap of others who rail travel.
And i thought the pub job was high risk.

Why are call centre's in the CBD anyway.. its not like office space is cheap.

It would be interesting to see a map which shows where the Corona cases live (roughly to the nearest suburb).
I've been told its far worse in Melbourne CBD than the rest of the State.
I know NSW was mainly the NW suburbs , but that may have changed.

Sorry plugger can you explain stabilised to me? Have the new cases flattened over the past week or what?

Just took my 2 kids down to the local park for some fresh air. As per protocols, i made sure we stayed well away from anyone else (there were only about 6 other people in the whole park) and wiped down everything before and after use.

My kids were on a slide when suddenly this other kid runs over and starts sharing it. Her father just sat back 60m away and didn't say anything. We hightailed it out of there quick smart.

Some people just still aren't getting it.

And an ex Fortescue mining industry guy. Nepotism works wonders. Financially motivated corporate pitbulls aren't what's needed in a once in a hundred years health cataclysm. I'd take someone with science or medical background over an ex CEO any day.

Saw on the news that 6 NRL clubs have completely shut down. Scary stuff!

Going forward for the AFL, players and staff wages might need to be cut in half for a couple of years. So many off field staff at clubs will actually never return.
