The point is that the hospital system cannot cope with the more severe cases if "everybody gets it".You're only delaying the inevitable.........

My understanding is that it is about flattening out the transmittance rate as best we can to prevent overloading our health care system and being faced with a situation where some people cannot get hospital care if required.You're only delaying the inevitable.........

What is the point of shortening games.
I think they should delay the season by a few weeks, go to the pub, and wait for the whole thing to blow over.

And without fights, ice hockey is basically figure skating in helmets

We're still all gunna get it whether the hospital system can cope or not. Corona Virus doesn't just go dormant because the Health Minister puts out a Press Release that states the hospital system isn't coping. Lol.
When the Home Affairs Minister is diagnosed with COVID-19 and the rest of cabinet hasn't bothered to self-isolate despite contact with him what does that tell you about the realities of containment??? Ivanka Trump had to put herself into self-isolation after contact with Peter Dutton, but not our cabinet or Prime Minister. I mean who's kidding who here.
As sure as shit that Liddle had a large influenza (sorry ferrisb) over the selection of Callum Moore, we're all gonna get Corona Virus. It's not a matter of if, but when. Stop worrying about it. It will happen.........and it won't result in the end of the world as we know it. Just a mild hiccup.

We all know that. But if we all get it at once the health system collapses (see Italy). The idea, which you now must have seen communicated a gazillion times, is to flatten the line so when we do get it, it’s months from now and the system is able to cope with the influx.
Your Big Boy pants attitude will see more deaths, a broken health system, and a country on its knees.

Between 20% to 60% of the world will get Covid. It can’t be contained. All that can be done is mitigation. Mitigation means social distancing. We are two weeks behind Italy. The more we treat this like the flu, or as a Big Boy pants issue, that distance between us and Italy will shorten considerably. The AFL not postponing the season is irresponsible.

only so many respirators and beds at hospitals. Planned surgeries will be dumped because of this. Can only cope with so many ppl at a time so we need to pan out and slow covid 19 oto enable more of the vulnerable to survive this.

Yes.
The messaging within hospitals at the moment is expect elective surgeries to be cancelled imminently to reduce ICU requirements.
Expect to see a sharp rise in hospital admissions within the next 2 weeks. Expect to be called in to do extra overtime shifts, from junior to senior doctors. Perhaps even expect re-training of staff to perform roles they didn't specialise to do.
I'm tough (****ing oath...), we're all tough, but toughness only gets us so far.
Already doing retraining. Losing theatres for hrs due to sanitising afterwards. supply panic due to so many supplies coming from china. Partner a theatre nurse at big public hospital and its going to get a bit nuts. Inevitable loss of staff due to self imposed isolation's. From a footballing perspective its only going to take a club doctor or physio to contract the virus and whole teams will be in isolation. Can see a complete shut down of the season coming sooner rather than later.
