Not being sad is one thing , actively making fun is distasteful.

Guess you would not enjoy the subreddit Herman Cain Award, where people actively laugh at people who openly flaunted public health guidelines and/or used their platform to misinform the public, and subsequently died of Covid. I enjoy it because it’s funny when people who have no regard for others’ lives end up dying of the virus they think is a hoax.

I'm a fan of that as well. People dying or getting sick is not generally a thing to be happy about, but when it is people who actively and intentionally and gleefully put others in harm's way then it definitely changes the balance. Similar to how I'm happy when someone driving a car bomb accidentally blows themselves up before reaching their target destination. Sometimes a death can have a silver lining.

We haven't actually been living with a global pandemic though, that's part of the problem. We've just been living around it. Neat party trick to turn WA into a "hermit kingdom", but then what? Some ITT seem to want that to go on forever. One wonders why they don't just move off grid, no shortage of space here away from the perilous dangers of day to day life.

Below is the current state of COVID in Australia, by the numbers. A pretty enviable position compared to most countries despite routine updates from our elected state representatives about how many deaths are occurring outside WA. NSW has had over 1m COVID cases since the pandemic began and somehow has 129k today. I guess the drop of 13,277 from yesterday's tally means they all died. Will wait for the next WA CHO announcement to confirm.

Someone asked me today if I thought the border would open in March. My response was to shrug. Maybe it will, who knows? Even if it does open it will still be heavily restricted and has been slammed shut before so... One of my friends in Europe was in Curacao the other day, which is very much not in Europe. Skiing in Switzerland today. I know a couple of Scorchers players are holidaying in Qld (63k cases) before returning to WA (166) for another round of quarantine. But hey, pampered professional athletes. Should just play backyard cricket from home.

People are anxious, frustrated, angry etc. because it's 2022 and we are staring down the barrel of more restrictions, not less. You need official proof of vaccination to have a counter meal at the pub - masked while not eating of course - while there are 166 cases in the entire state, most if not all of which are in isolation anyway. If you walk around Perth CBD unvaxxed and unmasked and licking metal poles like the guy in Dumb and Dumber and you have a very, very low probability of getting COVID. Govt response is to stoke fear, talk about closing nightclubs, tell people to get tested and point score on death statistics of Australian citizens who live east of the Nullarbor. Classy.

Friends in Melbourne/Sydney were jealous of Perth when they had alpha/delta outbreaks leading to lockdowns while WA was pretty much business as usual. They've all moved on and accepted COVID exists and you have to manage it. Other than those wanting to come and see family no one really gives a fu** what WA is up to any more. The world is trying to move forward, WA is going backwards. No one gives a sh*t what McGowan is doing in the minor leagues hiding behind a wall. Step up to the plate in the majors or sit down and shut up.

AFL season starts in March, no one knows where WC/Freo will play. This is the WC board of a footy forum and a decent contingent of people don't seem to really care that our players, coaching staff etc. need to travel for their jobs. Or care about going to the footy for that matter. Selfish to play in the AFL I guess, or watch it. BBL, A-League, Super Rugby, Sheffield Shield, NBL all interrupted/impacted specifically by WA govt policy before the actual virus has had a chance to have a go at it. Gonna be a fun year living in WA if you can't go and watch any of the local sports teams play. But we'll be safe.

Execs like Richard Goyder (who happens to be Chairman of the AFL Commission) are relocating because of restrictions and uncertainty, according to this thread 'so what?'. Woodside, BHP, Wesfarmers operate here, but they sure as hell don't have to base here. If people think those companies leaving Perth (not WA) wouldn't be a big deal then wow. It's been said in no uncertain teams no one outside WA has any interest in quarantining just to come here. WA is just a quarry to a lot of people. Mining companies will have staffing issues when they have COVID cases but will still post huge profits and corporate tax goes to Canberra who will have zero appetite to spend it in WA any more than they have to.

I'm actually kind of dreading the border opening now (if it does, wouldn't surprise me if talking walls on Harvest Tce said people on the inside were hoping for an outbreak to make that decision redundant as though COVID taking off despite a closed border somehow validates their tough stance) given how over reactive and incapable of independent thought people have become here.

TL;DR there's not a whole lot of optimism out there currently but anyone who doesn't think McGowan's poo is pure white and has no smell at all wants old people to die of COVID.

I have seen a couple of posts now where you whinge about lockdowns or mask mandates for small numbers of cases, but then have also said that mask mandates don’t work because we currently have community spread. It seems like because the number of cases of Covid in WA is low, you don’t think there should be any of the regulations (for example, no quarantine-free travel and mask requirements in high risk situations) which are helping to keep that number low. When things inevitably escalate, will you also be opposed to the restaurant/bar/school closures from widespread Covid outbreaks, or the density restrictions which will come in as they have for most other states/territories dealing with the Omicron spike? I’m just trying to get clear what anti-Covid measures, if any, you would support.

Well said.

I've been speaking to a friend who lives in China and right now is unvaxxed, moves around and goes where he wants. There's no restrictions, no mask mandates and they are more free than any of us right now.

McGowans mandating out of popularity not reality.

Nothing McGowan has done/installed/mandated has been thought through from the position of those who have to implement his idiotic ideas.

Yes an exasperated business owner had to close his doors because of losing staff to a quarantine period.
He rang 6pr and told the premier as much and said it would cost his business 40 grand and where should he seek compensation for that?
The premier replied saying he's sorry for that but when the virus is out of control he will only have to quarantine for 7 days...I guess he was much happier for that advice.

Thanks mark.

Interesting. Maybe certain people will finally stop comparing WA to communist China then 😉

A friends mums aunts cousins ex boyfriends sister in law apparently has been told some interesting info regarding a late night decision in regards to upgrading the internet and network security of the home offices of all those who work in state parliament, evidence pointing to an imminent lockdown or work at home order.

The Chinese government has actually been going door to door and asking people why they haven’t been vaccinated and, in some cases, have forcibly vaccinated people. So I am just going to assume that your anecdote is false.

As for people being more free in China than they are in WA, tell your imaginary friend to punch Tiananmen Square 1989 into a search engine and report back with his findings.

So typical of you to ignore the bulk of the comment for a cheap attempt at wit.

Normally I love a cheap attempt at wit, but that wasn’t one.

You’re comparing China with WA and saying McGowan is “mandating out of popularity not reality”. How do you explain what’s going on in every other State?

Interesting you try to dismiss my comments as lies.

Why is that? To assuage your blind devotion to a dictator?

Well I wasn't discussing every other state. You brought them up.

So you explain them.

Not my cup of tea TBH

How would you feel about an anti covid vax page making fun of people that die from vaccines?

That is also distasteful IMO

But hey do what you want its a free country sort of

If we are 90%+ double jabbed and we lock down, people are going to rage .

Honestly it could just be a security breach forcing an urgent upgrade, interesting none the less.

I know of a department that’s made a similar move. I doubt there’s anything more to it than “there’s a fair chance people are going to have to work from home at some point soon”.

All the parents who have just go their kids back to school !

All for a strain that is killing 0.01% of people that catch it at an average age of 82 .

Sure protect the old folk homes and advise other oldies / sick people to lay low but the rest of society needs to push ahead .

Seems legit

Who would you say sounds more like a dictator? A man who has risen up through the ranks of a ruling political party (the only political party allowed in his particular nation), has never been elected to political office, oversees a system of mass surveillance and censorship, and recently abolished term limits, essentially making him ruler for life? Or a man who has been democratically elected to parliament several times, and whose party was sent back to power in a democratic election (in a state and country with compulsory voting) less than a year ago?

Mate if it was up to me we'd be opening Feb 5.
