I could be wrong but didn't McGowan's potshotting of other states start (or at least ramp up) when NSW issued every other state with a bill for their hotel quarantine whilst claiming they were saving the country by themselves

WA had harder borders before the other states, you are indeed correct in that NSW liked to whine about it first. The Ruby Princess fiasco caused rebukes and consternation from WA, Queensland and Victoria (guess what they have in common), and then it just moved on from there.

Still doesn't really excuse the at-times embarrassing tit-for-tat shown by Premiers and the PM that depended on their political affiilation - and yes, McGowan did no favours by fanning it to help win an election.

Meh, at the end of the the day they're just people, look how many embarrassing tit-for-tat conversations we have here.

On another note, just went to get a coffee at the bakery, had to check in, FML

For a dictator that's great at lockdowns, Vladimir McGowan sure is doing a lousy job with this one.

Did you punch the bakery assistant?

Serious question - Is anyone worried about the border opening at this point?
Nah. We felt relieved when the date was pushed back, but now it makes sense to open up given the case numbers in WA.

Only worry would be a hypothetical worse future variant coming straight in, but the desire to be with Japanese friends & family is overtaking covid anxiety at this point, particularly for my wife.

Still, our family will avoid indoor public areas for the time being. A shame that Mandurah doesn’t have an abundance of beaches, parks & takeaway restaurants for us worrywarts.

1027 cases , 13 in hospital ( down from 15 )

Mark McGowan's Chief of Staff and Water Minister both positive cases .

Least numbers are stable and hospital admissions are low .

There are plenty of people with similar anti-McGowan views on this board who have echoed comments from eastern states politicians calling WA a hermit kingdom or comparing McGowan to Gollum. I would say that what's good for the goose is good for the gander, if people like the NSW Premier and the alcoholic Deputy PM are going to constantly take potshots at the WA state government in an effort to weaken Labor's popularity in WA.

And the hero worship for those guys is where exactly? Bananarby is a confirmed flog. Perrotet is new but making a good flog case.

National cabinet would probably run more smoothly if one state wasn't on a different page to everyone else.

Mao of China - dictator, socialist, personality cult, landslide 'election' wins capital city's residents are brainwashed with red-coloured propaganda, movements are carefully controlled
McGowan of North Kore-WA - dictator, socialist, personality cult, landslide 'election' wins, capital city's residents are brainwashed with red-coloured propaganda, movements are carefully controlled

WAKE UP SHEEPLE

Sorry to hear larrikin

Hopeful we all get through this peak ok and get back to some normalcy in the coming months

It's hard to say who "started it." I do remember NSW and the federal government constantly having a go at the Victorian government due to the extended lockdowns there and claiming that they were not necessary and overly harsh. Then after that taxi driver with the Delta variant caused some community cases in NSW and they reacted really slowly, eventually resulting in it becoming really widespread and bleeding into other states/territories, a lot of the other states/territories were more than happy to fire back at Gladys and Co for infecting the country with the Sydney Sneeze. Then old mate Perottet came in guns a blazin' about the GST and WA, which of course raised McGowan's ire.

My view is, politics are often a dirty game, and if you're not going to fight back when other people/parties come at you and you aren't going to really sell your accomplishments (as I think the WA government are well justified in doing when it comes to the strong Covid-free economy, the very low death/infection rates and keeping the hospitals humming along), then you're not going to be around very long.

dont know what or who you are referring to but there are plenty of socialist dictators in the world - in fact its the standard.
It is? There's Cuba, China, Venezuela, what else? Anti-democratic countries in the Middle East (Syria, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc), Africa (Eritrea, both Sudans, Uganda, etc), North Korea, Russia, the former Russian republics (Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan) are not remotely socialist. The actual standard is for dictatorships to be based on nepotism and naked corruption with a small number of people in the dictator's inner circle (i.e., the Russian oligarchs) accumulating massive wealth while the rest of the country languishes.

Cute sign. Since I know your definitely a "Yeah! Science! Woo!" guy may I be the first to congratulate on the exciting new opportunities for you and your liver.

You missed Canada in the first list of socialist dictatorships ;) And nice try but Russia doesn't really belong with North Korea. Putin may be an authoritarian to some degree but Russia has a democratic system of government and anyone who knows the first thing about Russia is aware that Putin has the support of a healthy majority his people and doesn't need to rig elections, its sitting at about 70% currently. He's doing alright, but Mark would probably say to him "those are rooking numbers, you gotta pump those numbers up." Also the oligarchs aren't so much a thing now as they were in the 90's their influence is pretty dilute at this point compared to that of the state. Anyone who thinks getting rid of Putin would make Russia a safer country for the world to deal with is nuts. Figures like Navaly {who struggled to achieve about a 1% of popular support] are not going to miraculously transform the place into California and what comes after Putin is most likely to be someone to the right of him, willing to escalate tensions with the west even further.
