I think its smart list management. At this point in time they are both unknowns, yet to play a game. The club have an inkling but they dont know that they will make it.I've never liked it when other clubs do this. Disappointed to see Carlton do it.
Feels like taking advantage of young players wanting to prove themselves in a new workplace. Not a fan.
What if they dont? Then the club has been taken advantage of. Are you going to turn around and say that the managers took advantage of the club? Probably not, but it would be equally true.
Lets face it, any star that re-signs with any club, could get more on the open market as well. Is this the club taking advantage of the star?
What about the ageing player that re-signs and extends his career. No longer as god as he once was and certainly usually more injury prone. That is a much greater risk for the club. Is the player manager taking advantage?
The point is, players freely sign with a club and its a negotiation. The club has to provide the right atmosphere and culture to make it more likely that players will want to re sign for unders. That is the new way of management.
