Does he also have to be a racist bigot as well?? What about all the other nasty coaches that weren't successful??

I'm not having a go at you, but your comment seems silly considering all the evidence to the contrary.

Mcrea seems to be uber successful to me, multiple flags as a player, one as a coach, almost a second one, got the players playing out of their skins for 2 years when we were looking down the barrell of a rebuild, even this year got us through part of our injury crisis, i can't think of another current coach who could do that? Clarkson? Voss? Lyon? Scott brothers? Hinkley?

If anyone can get us through this, it's Fly, we look tired, the older players look tired, yelling at them won't help, we need troops back, but feel it's too late in the season.
Exactly. No one was complaining last year about the culture Fly has created at the club & the type of positive, happy, mature & level headed guy he is.

It's clearly been shown that that approach works for two years, but then you're stuffed. Time to start flaying.

For those questioning Fly and/or his assistants what has changed from round 3 to now?
The period where we beat Brisbane, Port, Carlton and Melbourne etc.
If you don’t know the answer have a read then also factor in a loss of form/confidence.
That’s largely what’s driving current outcomes, but our inability to prevent uncontested marks probably needs to be addressed because it takes our pressure game out of the equation. New players make it harder to nail the leg rope you give on defense the thing is I just can’t justify it to the extent of -47 marks per game over our past 4 matches. You chase that much arse a game and it catches up with you…

Sometimes it is hard to ask hard questions. I think we should absolutely asking difficult questions at the moment.

Premiership windows don't last long, and if the team and coaches can make the most of ours by challenging the status quo, that is healthy.

While I don't think something is "very" wrong, there are certainly things that could be improved on.

We have definitely lost games and given up premiership points this year due to inconsistent intensity.

Injuries, late in a game can explain one or two games, but certainly not the entire list below.

Unfortunately, there has a pattern to our performances this year, closely correlated to effort.

Effort is something the coaches have to influence.

Here is a list of games with poor or inconsistent intensity and effort:
Giants loss
Sydney loss
Saints loss
Hawks win with awful second half collapse
ANZAC Day draw
Crows at G where we let them back in and luckily held on
Collapse against Freo for draw
Collapse against Bulldogs for loss
Abysmal 1st half against Kangas for lucky win
Suns game
Bombers again

We've really only played strong games against Lions, Carlton, Eagles, PA and Melbourne.

5 of 16.

I think Fly needs to be calling this out more assertively, because what he is doing behind the scenes doesn't appear to be having the desired effect.

Don't get me wrong, injuries have been cruel, but the majority of our poor performances above, we clearly showed we had a team capable of winning the game, because when our intensity was good, we controlled the game and the scoreboard, even with debutants and fill-ins.

Cats awful last quarter effort with season on the line
Hawks simply awful

We've really only shown consistently high intensity levels in 5 games against Lions, Carlton, Eagles, PA and Melbourne.

Is it possible Fly simply got lucky? Added flair to Buckley's defensive system, Wright nailed the trades, Nick Daicos arrived and the players were super hungry after the 2022 close finals losses?

This year has been a disgrace, possibly 3 good wins.
The whole coaching structure must be reviewed

He should blast them

Stuff being Nice as not working at all
Explain in detail how 'blasting' the team benefits anyone.

Other than making you feel better about things.

We have no idea how McRae coaches behind closed doors. I'm sure he probably does have moments where he's more assertive with them, but there is no value in blasting the team publicly. Achieves nothing and just invites media pressure.

This is not the 1980s, football is a profession. Keeping a united front to the public and backing players in is important. Criticism is handled internally.

When McRae took over we expected a rebuild straight away. He created a game plan that took us to a flag within two years.

It's now clear that we have squeezed every last drop out of this list and we need to rebuild. The game plan is broken because the personnel cannot execute it any more. Age has caught up to a third of our list, injuries and poor form the the rest.

We owe the coach the time to rebuild the list and evolve the game plan to suit. It's what we would have done at the start of his tenure anyway. Only difference now is that we have a flag that nobody expected us to win three years ago.

If only the Cats sacked Scott last year, after finishing 12th the season after winning the flag, maybe they wouldn't be having such a poor season... oh wait, they're 4th and are a genuine chance to win it all in 2024... ya'll need to take a chill pill. We go again in 2025.

Whilst that’s a possibility, do we trust the trading, drafting team and coaches.

Precisely. This season's fast disappearing down the toilet (I can still see a faint glimmer - it hasn't completely gone yet, but it's close). Not writing the whole club off though for years to come.

The honeymoon is definitely over.
We're premiers who got a terrible injury run and screwed over by AFL scheduling. Teams have worked out our game plan to a degree.

In 2023 we played our first match in round 1 on 17 March.

In 2024 we played our first match in round zero on 9 March, second match in round 1 on 15 March, third match on a Thursday night, 21 March for a 0-3 start.

Absolute madness.

Time to reinvent for next yr.
Just maintain a healthy list, recruit smartly and go again.

Dunno, but we they earnt our trust after last year, didn't they?

We started preseason late, we were 0-3, we fought back hard, then we got destroyed by injuries, what can we do?

Stop making excuses. Absolute excuse merchant type stuff.
We aren't as good next year. Need to try different things next year and fill the gaps in the team

It's hard to complain about Fly and the coaches. Won a premiership. Can't ignore that.

But .... I have concerns about their development of players. And then there are the trades and the recruits.

Boy we could have done with Taylor Adams today.
