So Stupid how easily it is to give away a 50m Penalty, i think they will need to introduce a 25m one.

We have a 25 and a 15mtr penalty in the SANFL and works fine
But then again SANFL umpires use common sence

AFL has rules. Usually you don't see the player getting a first and final warning before giving the 50m away on the next offence.

They changed it to 50 metres because of the severity of the incidents. Players were copping a whack after a mark, players were deliberately time wasting, etc. Nowadays you lay a finger on someone, or call an umpire a tosser (which may have an element of truth to it) and it's a 50 straight away. Change it back to the old 15 metre penalty, and keep the 50 metres for blatantly unfair tactics.
I reckon a shorter one for minor indescretions would be useful (like holding, of course teams that want to slow the game up and give themselves time to get behind the ball could then just give away 15 odd meters for the chance to setup a defence, not really what people want happening is it?) but insulting/trying to intimidate the umpire I think should remain at 50, they cop enough flak as it is from players.
The old rules didn't work perfectly fine, players were being held well after a mark was taken to prevent them from disposing of the ball. The AFL had to crack down on it.
Agree with the idea of a 25m penalty though, on some occasions it would be more appropriate where a player has infringed.

Only change I would make is use technology to make sure the penalty is actually 50 meters.

Players who don't do stupid things won't give any away then, will they? Problem solved!
Don't mind the 25m in the SANFL, however, in the AFL I think you would see the return of the 'professional 15m' (25m) if it was bought in. Given the time it takes to move 25m and set the mark (all done under time-on) sides would be happy to concede the distance anywhere in their own backline up to the centre of the ground.

No way, in today's game a 15m penalty would actually penalise the team receiving the 15m. It stops the game as time on is blown, giving the opposition the opportunity to flood back with minimal field position lost.
The umps need 50m penalties to get the Collingwood ball of hype rolling.
That was a shocking decision considering Mattner looked as though he was playing on,totally snuffed out any chance we had to cause an upset!
Didn't he kick it straight back to you?
Might have been a softass 50m penalty, but it didn't have much impact on the game.
