Universal Love Cripps re-signs until the end of 2021

Crippa re-signing, on top of Charlie and Murph, can only help our chase of mature players as it provides the most creditable affirmation that its a good place to be.

Imagine Gaff would be thinking geez I wont get the best tagger, I could become the new Tommy Mitchell.

Also wonder what Tom Elliott had to say about the email he just received? Poor form Carlton there should have been a member poll before the board sign of on the contract.

Go baggers.
Now SOS and the blues have to get top players to the club to help Cripps and get the Blues back to where we belong in the top 4 and hopefully winnings flags!

I think we were all hoping for longer.

The fact he's signed more than a year before his contract is up is a great show of faith though.

Also allows SOS to know exactly how much he can spend on mature players.

When Charlie signed for five I'd hoped we'd be able to get Patty for at least four. Especially when in the next two years we shouldn't be paying anyone else ridiculous money so we could make the first two of four very lucrative to get him to sign the longer contract.

It is what it is now.

I believe both have signed until their RFA status commences, which is well played. Cripps would be insane to sign beyond that given where the club is at.

I think both CC and PC have signed on until they become RFA's. This is the new norm and smart move by players.

You do realise that they have both signed till they are eligible to be free agents don't you? The onus is on the club to show them a bright future by then.

You would be one of those people who would be upset if you "only" won $5 million in Tattslotto.

That might be so, however with the way the FA market is at present it just means the clubs at the top are pillaging the clubs at the bottom for their better players. Good for the players, bad for the league.

I think he does love the club, but the trends are a worry.

“This club is a second home to me and the friends I’ve made at Carlton are like family, so I never had any intention to leave,” Cripps said.

GOOD BOY

So much for Nat Fyfe whispering in his ear... might need to make his way over to Princes Park now, if he doesn't want Cripps tearing him apart for the rest of his career :D

Who is upset? It's great he re-signed, would have been even better of it was for a longer term.

Don't disagree, the FA system is so rooted though that makes it tough for lower placed teams to hold onto their stars.

I'm confident he'll stick around long term regardless because of his character.

No doubt its bad for the bottom clubs however to get them on longer contracts would mean offering up such a huge deal that it distorts our salary cap to the point we cant have strong list.

The advantage of what has happened is that, im assuming of course, is that we have enough salary cap powder to still gain some good fa's.

If we maintain the rebuild our chances of becoming a good side increase dramatically. When that happens we then become a hunter again.

According to article, "Cripps joins Murphy, C. Curnow, Fisher, De Koning, P. Kerr, Dow & O’Brien in extending their contracts with the Club throughout the year."

Out of contract at end of '18 season - source FootyWire

Mullet, A. Silvagni, O'Shea, Polson, Thomas, Lang, Pickett, Lamb, JGM, Simpson, LeBois, Shaw, Kennedy, Lobbe, Wright, Graham, Kerridge, Rowe
- Did Kennedy only sign on for 1 yr??
- 16/17 OOC at season's end. Big numbers. That's 1/3 of list...
Don't think some of those players are out of contract this year. Polson re-signed recently. Lang and Kennedy only came this year and I would be very surprised if they changed clubs on a one year deal.

Imagine if Richmond call out Patrick Cripps instead of Ben Lennon on draft night 2013....bloody hell they’d be unbeatable!!
That's a legitimately terrifying thought.

Best news !! U bloody ripper !! I've been doing 14 hr days bringing the crane down in Richmond!! Just got home to see this wooohoooo
excellent! now put the bloody thing back up again - my hopes just skyrocketed and got stuck up a tree.................
