Is noone willing to entertain Crock's prospects for the role?

The bloke is hardcore North. This is NOT an impediment.

The players I've seen him criticised for are Hale, Power, Thomas.

I disagree on Thomas because I think there'll come a time when it 'clicks' (ie he grows up and his talent flows in a demi-semi-Motlop fashion).

But yeh Darren's not doing himself any favours, in fact he could be doing some serious self-harm hitching himself to the Hale and Power wagons.

Apart from that, I think he hasn't received due credit. He's been extremely unluckly in 4 of 5 games.. if the big twit from the GC along with a couple of others had kicked straight to build decent leads Darren could've been undefeated going into the Brissie game.

He immediately got them playing a much more dynamic running game which is more credible than having engineered a contrived win by everyone smashing bodies for one game post-Laidley.

It's obvious the guy is well-liked and just about every player interviewed has spoken volumes for him and how he has them more willing to take risks. In some ways I thought the Brisbane game was a reversion to bad habits they had learnt from the previous bloke.

Crock has the laid back style that might be suited to getting the most out of these fiesty gen-y's and the type of coach I can see players ripping the piss on with bald jokes etc because they love the bloke.

He can't be held accountable for the shit skills of the players nor the insipid gameplan and habits he's having to deprogram. And the one area - defence- that he was responsible for is the one area we've been decent in.

The pressure of Buckley is off now, he has to really treat this as HIS team and show what the next 3 years would be like if he was given the reigns. Tip- stop employing flacid workhorses on the ball, start punishing bad form and keep up your high risk and experimental approach.

I don't think we should underestimate the effect the near misses and the spectre of not being in the running for the job might've had on the man until now.
Mega-bump.

I felt way back then we didn't properly look in our own backyard at what we had.

Brayshaw got doe-eyed for Buckley then Scott. I felt Crocker had "something" and this was before the systematic upset over a peak St Kilda.

When Crocker was interim during the Scott years we won and discovered Ben Jacobs the tagger. Have a feeling Majak played well under him also.

Sliding doors and all.. wondering what mightve been In AFL. Glad his abilities were verified as an AFLW premiership coach, our men's teams loss might’ve been the women's gain.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and all that, but I don't think it is a stretch to say he would have provided far more stability as a senior coach than what we experienced under Shaw & Noble, who were both absolute basket cases.

I was never entirely sure he would make a great men's coach because I always thought he was a quiet, reserved person who was perhaps incapable of giving a Pagan style spray when required, qualities that seem well suited to the women's coaching position. His knowledge of the game, the club and its culture as well as his experience coaching in the men's game has made him one of the best coaches in the women's game, it would be interesting to see if that kind of knowledge could be transferable to the men's game.

Bump?.. more like a Jack Ziebell hit on Aaron Joseph..

100% agree on the Crock-a-dial. Our men's side was completely different when he coached while Scotts was laid up in hospital.

It's a testament to the man's humility and loyalty and his capacity for setting his own ego aside after being given no consideration three times when we went looking for a new head coach. Each time, he remained with the club, willing to work with the new coach when most other assistants in his position walk away.

On top of all that, he never regarded the AFLW gig as a consolation or stepping stone and has always referred to it as the culmination of his career in coaching.

3-1-6 in 2009
2-2 in 2015
1-1 in 2016

Clearly he has some good traits. I suspect he is a good match for the W though.

Dare I say with the last two premiership coaches being more Statesmen, Longmire similar, that this is what may be required by the modern day Millenial who needs more cuddles and love than previous generations.

And Darren is a gentleman with more than a penchant for building effective relationships.

It is a very, very interesting call. I wonder where his tactical prowess sat in the men’s game, because he never really seemed to put his hand up or bang down the door for an opportunity.

Perhaps the pressure isn’t in his wheelhouse, but it would make for a ripping story if Clarko doesn’t work out and Crock took the women to a threepeat and then men to Premiership Glory in 27!

That would be a fairytale.

It came up in the Euge video that they interviewed Crock, Scott and Hardwick in 2009. Sliding doors. He did coach the men to one of my favourite ever victories to end the Saints’ streak that year.

That period started a 25 game streak where we lost 5 games and won the last nine. If that happened in a season, instead of across two, we'd have a flag.

These days I think of it as it took a year for Brad to ruin what Crocker started...

I believe the streak ended the week before but we made it 2 losses in a row and did serious damage to their premiership hopes by exposing their soft underbelly.

One of the most frustrating things was that StKilda had beaten us a few times in a row as I recall, then Crock discovered the secret sauce by unleashing psycho Levi Greenwood, then Brad Scott came in and refused to use the same tactics against StKilda and they went back to belting us by 100 points.

There are 5 millennials left on our men's list, and 3 of them just arrived in this trade period. It's zoomers now.

There's always an implied criticism of millennials and zoomers when they don't respond to the tough love made popular in previous generations by the likes of Pagan and Barassi. The suggestion is that today's players are soft and they can't cope mentally. But the alternate history is Pagan and Barassi offer more cuddles and love when they were in charge and in each dynasty, we double our premiership count. Keith Greig is on record saying that he played his best season when a deal was brokered to stop Barassi screaming at him and calling him a shit plumber and just let him play naturally without the abuse and criticism. I'm sure Corey McKernan would have appreciated similar treatment with Pagan. Maybe all that abuse is why we only won two flags in each era despite the talent and the number of times we went so deep into finals. And people like Darren Crocker and John Longmire were smart enough to figure that out along the way.
