I assume there is a meaning behind that particular military chevron?

You would hope so at least.
I assume you've never attended a Dawn Service and looked at the shoulder rank panels for NCOs (Particularly Air Force and Army)?

tradition

pffft

That'd be like Gold Coast in 2165 going on about 'why can't we wear our traditional guernsey?'

ignoring the fact that its premise wasn't thought of until the 2040s, hadn't been nailed down until 2100 and they hadn't worn it since 2140.

Just because it was popular doesn't mean it's traditional. That'd be like North Adelaide bringing back the candy stripes as their home strip.

Port's what, 154 years old? The premise of their "traditional" strip has only been used for 79 season, and what they want to run with was only used for 40 years.

Honestly, in 6 years we would have worn our strip more than Port's "traditional" strip.

Well considering their first non-lace up version for the Sanfl had fake laces printed on it says everything you need to know.

That's my point.

Frog kinda missed that and I was pointing it out.

I'm not an expert on what it means though. I'm guessing there are variations of those chevrons.

Enlighten us?

If I was to pinpoint the reason and I maybe wrong, it does seem clubs are going out of their way to avoid any image of a weapon on there guernseys. Which for a top likely to be bought and worn by adults through its limited edition status is kind of over thought hysteria. If they had a shadow image of a soldier in dress uniform with a gun at their side that should be ok since kids who watch dawn service, marches and ceremonies all see soldiers in dress uniforms carrying a dress rifle. I don't think its the promoting of weapons the AFL and its clubs fear it is. Nothing will change though. But the bugle just seems wrong.
The specific design is irrelevant. Suggesting a false equivalence or intrinsic connection between sporting events and ANZAC day (particularly the solemn half of it), I find to be the worst kind of tacky and in very poor taste.

The colour scheme matches the army
And They've gone with the same rank as Ian perries nickname.

So not only is it a homage to the anzacs. But also our history.

It's laughable hearing the AFL each year attempt to make a connection between Essendon and Collingwood playing an AFL match and actual warfare our veterans faced

Obviously a small example, but chatting to some current (reservists? and former members of the ADF today at work and they overwhelmingly weren’t fussed by sport jumping on to ANZAC day. They saw it as a newer way to promote recognition of an important day in Australia and we have a huge connection with sport in this country etc.

There’s certainly a cringe element to it but I think the jumper thing can be seen as mostly positive given what they’re also doing with it:

“We’re also excited about our first-ever Anzac Day commemorative guernsey which we unveiled last night and will wear in Round Seven against North Melbourne down in Hobart. Following that match, all player issue and match worn jumpers will be auctioned with proceeds raised going to the RSL Anzac Appeal. Each of the State’s 118 RSL clubs will also receive one, signed by selected players, which they can use for fundraising too.”

Hmm, can’t say I’m a fan
That's one of the worst jumpers we've ever had
Reckon I could name 5 worse.

Still, it’s s**t.

This infuriates me.

Courage on a ****ing football field in any way compared to courage on a battlefield shakes head.

Wow, thought people would love it! I’ve had a couple of mates message to say how good this new guernsey was, so took a look and was drawn to it immediately. Worst guernsey ever calls are a bit extreme, it certainly wouldn’t have sold out that quickly if that were the case.
I Love it! I think it's classy. I'm not going to get one (other than the fact they sold out on line within an hour) but I understand it is a limited run and a guernsey will be given to every SA RSL to raffle off to raise funds for veterans in their areas. I like that.

I Like the Guernsey.

Bold. Intelligent design.

Clever use of Crows' colours to symbolise a dawn service or "at the going down of the sun and in the morning".

The bugler, against the military chevron motif (good spotting Peter Doherty), makes its purpose blindingly clear.

They are giving off a signed jumper to each RSL in the state of SA. (118 of them apparently) and it’s up to the RSL to display them or sell them off to help finances. Whether they sell them to the public also don’t counteract the positives imo
Surely we can fit 1 more RSL in SA?

Football on/around ANZAC day is appropriate. There has always been the split between the solemn remembrance of the dead in the morning and the celebration of those that returned after.

But this isn't the way the AFL or the clubs try to link themselves to ANZAC day. All the rhetoric and iconography is entirely an attempt to position the brand as intrinsically linked to the gravitas that comes with the remembrance of the sacrifice of young men to the industrial meat grinder of war by the thousand by the thousand.

My own personal opinion about the concept of ANZAC round and ANZAC merchandise notwithstanding, I've come around to the design today based on the fact that it's a guernsey you can still recognise from 50m away which some of the more "detailed" special guernseys across the league can lack. The colours are a nice balance and the shapes blocky enough to be seen on television. We are lucky to have one of the better colour combinations to work with in the league (when used appropriately - obviously 2010 to 2015 was a bit of a nightmare era).
