Wat... Only two or three years after we got rid of our last CEO, we reached a grand final. We hadn't done that for 19 years.

What if I told you that Fagan sat down with some of the media earlier in the year and went through the full camp program with them. That they asked "is that it?" and when told yes, shook their head confused. Said journalist went back to their paper and spoke to the editor, explaining what the camp was really about and was told "find another angle - that story won't attract clicks".
The journalist rang Fagan and apologised, explaining that it is clicks or die in the media.

There are media who know the story (at least the story Fagan told them - whether it is the FULL story is still up for some debate). They just write to attract interest. There is no truth in the media anymore. Ultimately it is stupid though, as by consistently lying, the media are going to destroy their own field. Once the average schmuck realises journalist have zero credibility, why would a newspaper pay for a journalist when you can get a story from anyone. It doesn't need to be researched or investigated or truthful. Blog boys will become the new journalist.

Here is what I think actually happened;

The camp was split into 3 groups. Most of the camp was based around meditations, breathing exercises etc... as they have done previously with CM.
Some of the camp involved some of the 'survival' types elements from a commando camp. (For instance I know that one group were woken at 3 am and told to jump straight in to a pool. They had to see who could stay in the longest. It was a basic 'test' of resilience being cold in the water and mind over matter exercise. Nothing particularly bad, nothing to be concerned about).
Some of the camp went beyond CM's normal exercises and they delved in to areas they are not qualified for.

Some players didn't like elements of the camp. Some of the players loved it. Some were a bit upset about parts of it.

The media jumped on small snippets and have run with it a very long way from what actually happened.

The club have dealt with it appallingly badly. Have tried to bury their head in the sand and let it go, have tried to lie by omission, and have allowed this sh!t fest to develop.

My biggest issue is that I don't think this camp was well designed for the mental state the players were in post GF loss. My biggest concern is that people at the club assumed they knew more than what they did and it has hence backfired badly. It points to people not seeking appropriate expertise, having a far greater belief in their only abilities than what they actually have, and poor decision making. That is not a great combination.

When you intermingle pure arrogance with those 2 characteristics you get a complete disaster.

Sadly this is true. There is no real 'pressure' brought to bear on AFC otherwise.
And as far as sacking Burton goes, that would require an admission and capitulation by those in power who hired him. Better the passage of time and then maybe the old barn dance sideways shuffle to keep everything conservatively stable. Adelaide does not have the big town big business culture in making things happen.
