Cyril Rioli's history of tackling by the arm.

He grabbed his arm whilst Adams was falling to the ground, once he was planted Judd standing over the top of him proceeded to bend the sh*t out of his arm. It went for at least 3 seconds. he was still hanging onto the arm even when the kangaroos players started remonstrating with him.

I'll concede he held the arm for longer. He had it in a dangerous position for only a second or two though, then relaxed the angle. However he did not grab it as he was falling to ground. Adams was on his feet and trying to bear Carrazzo's weight, when Judd grabbed his arm. Check the video.

Cyril Rioli, the human octopus. Take him on at your peril.

Spolier alert: Youre going to end up with your face in the turf in a tangle of limbs with the umpire screaming ball in the background.

Tackling by the arm is fine.

Doing a chicken wing - where you put it behind someone's back and then raise it upward in a way that would injure that arm isn't.

Of those videos I didn't see any of Rioli's victims show the slightest concern, or inability to carry on to the next contest. If he was tackling guys and they were left there writhing in pain because he'd inflicted an injury I'd be pretty critical.

Uh he actually injured Warnock who was out of commission for the rest of the season. It happened in rd 14 too so it was a pretty significant injury.

Football can be dangerous. People can get hurt. They can become a quadriplegic just going in to a pack and getting the ball. Should we make a rule against playing football as well?

Chances of that happening is 1 in a million though considering players go in hard for the ball all year and no one ends up physically paralyszed. Chances of hurting someone's shoulder by pinning one arm behind their back so they can't even break their fall has a far greater chance of injuring someone. Warnock and Adams can attest to that. Only time that I have been concerned about someone been paralyzed was when Franklin almost broke an Adelaide defenders neck. Franklin didn't paralyze the guy but his actions were still against the rules that try to keep players safe.

This threads a joke. I'd really like to know what people on this forum have against Rioli, when all he does each week is go about his business. I also love this sooky attitude people seem to have that if a player gets injured, someone else must have played outside the rules. It's a physical game FFS, it's a collision sport, and sometimes players get injured. Learn to deal with it.

The players he tackled didn't seem to have a problem with it. And that's a pretty good way to judge whether something untoward was done.

Why do you say it's dangerous?

I've noticed it his entire career, it's taken you guys alot longer.

I've also noticed he's caused no injuries.

Fairly certain it was a Cyril arm grab that injured rob warnocks shoulder last year

Go have another look it's on AFL website now. By the way you're wrong.

You have another look.

14:19 on the clock - Carrazzo tackles him. Adams bears his weight and turns his body 90 degrees trying to keep his feet or wrestle through the tackle.
14:18 on the clock - Judd joins the tackle and immediately grabs Adams by the right arm which is tucked into his body holding the ball
14:17 on the clock - Adams lands flat on the ground. Judd still holding his right arm but Judd is stooped down low so the angle of the arm not bad at this point.
14:17 on the clock - Still 14:17, Judd's upper body starts to rise so his head is in line with his torso, taking the arm with it.
14:16 on the clock - Judd's legs are now straight with his torso still at its previous point. This is the maximum angle and where the real pain was caused.
14:16 on the clock - Still 14:16, first North player gets to Judd with another charging in.
14:15 on the clock - 3 North players have hands on Judd now, and Judd has been edged away from Adams a half step. It's about this point where he lets go.
14:14 on the clock - Judd is now completely away from Adams, and in the process of being slung to the ground.

Obviously this doesn't take into account fractions of seconds but the screen shots are there if you want them. Now I did say after that first response that it was probably about 3 seconds Judd had his arm while on the ground and 1-2 seconds of it was the deliberately pulling the arm up part.

It's annoying that people embellish the Judd tackle to defend another tackle. It was silly enough as it was without people taking liberties with how it came about and how long it went for.

It's not a good look at all, it's very clear what his intention is. He is lucky Griffen had the strength to push his arm out before Cyril pushed it higher. It's a dog move and he should stop doing it before he really does pop someone's shoulder/elbow out. The fact the MRP let him off is a joke considering the handout Judd got for a similar thing.

What bullshit! Warnock played the next week in the VFL!

It is not Cyril's fault that Warnock can't get a game in the seniors. But carry on blaming cyril rather than poor form. Warnock clearly has chronic shoulder issues, having had shoulder surgery in the pre-season in 2012 and 2009. He went in for more shoulder work nearly 2 months after the Rioli tackle, and that is what effectively ended his season. But why blame spudliness and chronic injury issues for his lack of game time in the seniors after round 14, when you could blame Rioli eh?

So please stop saying Cyril caused Warnock a serious injury. Played the next week, dodgy shoulder pre-dated Cyril tackle.
