D-Rod Or Wells?

Wells v. Rodan

Who can forget Wells running down Rodan in the Jason McCartney game to stop a certain goal. Rodan is a great player - who could forget that over the head goal against West Coast - but Wellsy is a freak. It is true that time will tell but lets face it - last year we had glimpses of genius. If he can perform at or above the level he did last year then he is on the way to the elite level.

They're different players, etc, etc. I'd love to have Hodge at North and you're joking yourself if you're saying you wouldn't have Wells at Hawthorn.

Why on earth would Hawthorn love Wells??? we have enough small exciting types of the Aboriginal type. Chance Bateman,Mark Williams and recently added Harry Miller, there would be at least 20 players at around Wells age that id prefer.
Where is this special spark about him?? he looks lazy on the field, his pace and speed is no better than the average small defender and he cant take a grab to save him self not to mention the fact he is barely able to kick 45 metres.

Play Hodge on Wells and we would see the buggest miss match of all time, Wells would be shot to pieces.
Why is it that Hawthorn supporters can openly admit that Chris Judd at the moment is a hell of alot better than Hodge but the deluded tin rattlers at North kid them selves by thinking Wells is by the sounds of it a much better player than Hodge.

Im sure by the end of the season when Wells rejects his extension on his contract and heads back to WA views will slightly be altered.
Enjoy what it is thats so special about Wells now as its not gonna last very long.

cheers

Say no to drugs

Let me guess, Wells wouldn't get a game for Werribee reserves?

I have a feeling he'll resign this week, just wait and see.

What a mind numbingly ignorant post.

1) You're telling me you'd rather Bateman, Williams and Harry Miller over Wells? There's a reason Kevin Sheehan called Wells the best aboriginal talent he's seen since Wanganeen, there's a reason he finished runner up in the Sandover at 17, and there's a reason his peers voted him the best first year player in the country. I've seen a lot of Miller, and while he's decent, he is not even close to the player Wells is.

2) Lazy? Missed all the chases, the smothers, the tackles etc did ya? Garry Lyon harped on about Wellsy's defensive skills all year, and rightly so. Of course that chase down and tackle on Rodan was special, but he did that many times this year. Some of his diving smothers were inspirational too - you can't teach a player his defensive instincts, which is one of the reasons he is rated so highly.

3) Wells has agreed an extension until 2006, so your last comment looks very stupid. Add to that the fact he's already said he loves playing his footy down here, he wants to be a one club player, he loves the club and his parents are moving down to Victoria.

4) He can't kick 50 and he's not that quick? Can't take a grab to save himself? Amazing how you can judge that just on him playing limited game time as an 18 year old without a fully developed body. You must know something others don't, why don't you have a job as a recruiting manager/talent scout?

5) If you matched Hodge on Wells, it would be a mismatch both ways. Hodge is much more developed, and would easily win any one on one contests. However Wells has a special gift for reading the play a lot earlier than most, and would likely run off Hodge and win his fair share of the footy too. It would be a mismatch both ways, because they are different sorts of players.

Both are great players, both will be superstars of the competition. Comparing them is pointless, especially at this early stage.

Don't even bother with the undeveloped body justification, the kid CAN kick 50 metres and pinpoint people over such distances.

Wells set up a fair few goals this year kicking 50 metres across the ground to switch play...

The man who said he couldn't is obviously on drugs. And not the good drugs, the "duh duh" drugs.

CJH I'll see your Wells and raise you a Pavlich and throw away a flag or 2 in the process.

We missed a piece of Pavlich in that same trade!

While Richmond didn't do too well in that deal, it surely would have to have been one of Collingwood's worst ever trades!

Swapping Clinton King and pick #3 for pick #7 and Stunning Steve!

Clinton King is gone while McKee still hangs on - for how much longer? Danny Roach has been one of the worst top 10 picks in recent memory - just shading Kayne Pettifer - while Fiora has still yet to justify being a #3 pick.

At least Fiora is still there and is steadily improving and still has a chance.

Nonetheless, taking Fiora at 3 and passing on Pavlich was a massive blunder in hindsight!

You can't pay a higher price than a premiership. It's only speculation but 2002 would have been interesting. In 2003 perhaps nothing could have helped but who knows.

obviously you didnt see the game against melb at the mcg in the wet.one bit of play where wells smothered, gathered the ball and kicked a goal or passed it off for a goal caught my eye about the kid.
he would run rings around any of the kids you mentioned.

Came out of nowehere to spoil what looked like a straight forward mark to Bizzell, regained his feet quickly, read the ball off a pack, got the hands out and snapped a crucial late goal. My favourite bit of play from him in 2003.
