It's common knowledge that Bulleen is one of the best grounds in the competition. You can ask any player that has ever played on it, they don't come much better.

Obviously never played at Old Carey, Old Trinity, Marcellin, Old Melburnians, Old Brighton, Old Mentonians, Uni Blacks and Blues, Eltham Colegians, etc. These are just a few that are a lot better than Koonung.

In d4 - Richmond would be on a par with Koonung as a good ground.

Koonung while it is a nice ground have ordinary faciliites (small social rooms and away rooms).

Only ever made representations about the ground, not the facilities.

What are the condition of the grounds and what size grounds are they ? Majority small or big ???
I`m used to playing on small very ordinary grounds in the WRFL. Beleive alot of the grounds the other side of the city to be in pretty good nick !

Well as far as the grounds I played on in D4 last year.......
I'd say Manningham, Mt.Lilydale and Rich.C the best, but Box Hill Nth, Chadstone and Sth.Mornington are all true ankle breakers. Swinbourne, E.Park, Nth.Brunswick O.K.

Just had a look at the 2010 draw for all clubs and as a Mt.L player I'd say I'm happy with our deal. I still dont understand the way in which they come up with it though, how can we play a team in round one and then not again??? I'm not complaining just confused!

I can only assume you have rated Mt.Lilydale's ground with your tongue firmly planted in your cheek, it is marginally ahead of Sth Morningtons, it's lumpy, it stinks and has zero atmosphere.

Kew rates at the top for mine.

Wasn't rating the grounds on facility's or 'atmosphere', just rating the grounds on thier coverage. I wouldnt even mention sth.Mornington in the same breath as the Mt.Lilydales ground, for starters the the last three times I've played there it has been 30% sandy crap and 70% of something some would struggle to call grass. You rate Kew as the best!?!?!? W.T.F!!!

Personally I think the 16 round season is sh!thouse. Should play every team twice even if it means 2 extra rounds. Where did you find the draw?

Mt Lilydale has about 10 inches of grasses and smells like it should be placed in Werribee.

Elley Park was one of the better grounds for the year.

North Brunny was the worst ground I have ever played footy on. Heard the move back to their old ground has resulted in impressive club rooms with again no grass.

I rate Kew & Elley park.

The council is re-sowing the surface in March this year. They're actually doing all of the football grounds in the council prior to the season starting...so hopefully the surface will have a better coverage this year.

Thanks to all the boys who gave details on the grounds, sounds like the majority are good , i will try stick to those games ! :thumbsu:

PC if we play on the new ground is in tip top shape , looks a treat , looking forward to training on it in the new year and hope it is the one we use next year !
Very open , wide , BUT no wind protection may be its only fault !

Looking forward to Round 1 and back where i played a bit of junior footy for Richmond Centrals or Richmond Ammo`s/Citizens in my day.:)

No wind protection - if Old Westbourne's ground was anything to go by you should be able to build up a decent home ground advantage once you get used to it.

It would be an extra 4 weeks to play everyone twice. Is that still ok?

Fact is, we're already starting April 10 a week earlier than C-D2 just to play 16 games (18 rounds). We would have to start April 3 (can't start earlier due to cricket season, and many clubs only have rooms available from April 1), and either play on the Queens Birthday long weekend or only have a final 4 to get 18 games.

To play everyone twice, (20 games / 22 rounds) we would start April 3, play QB weekend, final 4 and finish a week after the rest of the ammos.

would be my preference but i suppose it's far from ideal as well. playing some teams once and others twice means that clubs may benefit or get shafted by the draw plus lose revenue from one home game. anyway 16 rounds it is. was keen to look get a look at the draw if anyone can be arsed posting it.

with the skills most of you guys display on the park you're lucky to get any games anywhere. so be happy with 16 or 18 or even 22.

Richmond are happy to be welcoming Point Cook into the league in Round 1... By the sounds of it we'll also be glad not to be playing there later in the season!

Bring it on Julia Gilliard.

No disrespect to Point Cook but i think it would have made sense for a new Club (as in starting out from scratch) should have done a year or two in the clubbies to build their player base before coming in to D4.

I'd hate to see the numbers at Point Cook resulting in them having the bare numbers to field a seconds side week in, week out which is no fun for anyone.

Nonetheless, they're in now and a 16 game season it is!

I haven't seen the draw but this would also mean that match ratio rears its ugly head again??

As for North Brunswicks ground, it's app. 145mtrs long and 90mtrs wide and, even though the grass coverage is not that good at the moment, it's definately not an ankle breaker like our temporary home last year!!

I'd like everyone to welcome Mr Keyboard Warrior to the thread. Despite being better than others in his own mind all he can find to do on a Saturday night is troll in a sub-section of an internet forum.

Well done North. Welcome.

Thanks for the No Disrespect Number 9 . :thumbsu:
From what i see numbers will not be a problem. It will all be teething problems early doors.
Point Cook will be competitive in 1`s & 2`s.

Full fixtures now on VAFA.com, interesting with the 2 byes, funny to see this will be our 4th year in the comp but still have not had to travel to Mt Lilydale, big trip to Point Cook for us but im sure we will pass the time on the trip home somehow. Also only play Richmond once which is a shame starting to build a little rivalry with them.
