I hope I've got this right.

Three games this season have ended with nothing separating the two sides. Sometimes a draw is as good as a win, and sometimes it as bad as a loss.

They were:
Round 7 Essendon v Collingwood
Round 9 Adelaide v Brisbane
Round 11 Fremantle v Collingwood

So who won and who lost in each tied game?

Round 7 Essendon v Collingwood
IF

Essendon win

THEN…
nothing much changes. They remain in 11th position, neither in the finals or with an early draft pick. An Essendon win also sees Collingwood drop below Fremantle to 10th.

IF…
Collingwood win

THEN…
the Pies play finals, finishing in 8th spot and displacing Carlton from the eight. A Pies win would also see Essendon plummet from 11th to 14th, getting an earlier draft pick and an easier fixture next season.

Round 9 Adelaide v Brisbane

IF…

Adelaide win

THEN…
nothing changes for the Crows (same ladder position and draft pick). A Brisbane loss would have seen them drop from 5th to 6th, and instead of facing a struggling Carlton in an elimination final they’d be up against the in-form Hawks.

IF…
Brisbane had pulled off a victory
THEN…
the Lions move up to 3rd and win the double chance, playing Port Adelaide in Adelaide. That also shifts Geelong to 4th and a final against Sydney in Sydney and the Giants end up 5th and host Carlton in an elimination final instead of facing the Swans in Sydney with the double chance.

Round 11 Fremantle V Collingwood
IF…

Fremantle win

THEN…
they play finals, jumping from 10th to 8th, bumping Carlton out of September (9th) and Collingwood down to 10th.

IF…
Collingwood win

THEN…
they play finals, also bumping the Blues down to 9th. Fremantle would remain in 10th place.

Who would have thought that the late Jeremy Sharp behind kicked at the 33 minute mark of the last quarter would see two teams miss September action?

Finally
IF…

Collingwood beat Essendon but Fremantle beat Collingwood

THEN…
it’s Fremantle playing finals. Collingwood gain half a win but also gain half a loss, effectively ending the season with 13 wins (like they have). Fremantle beating Collingwood sees them gain half a win and they finish with effectively 13 wins as well, the same as Carlton and Collingwood, but with the best percentage.
