Houston was adamant that he was not returning to Alberton no matter what.
So much for his bullshit in the media.
I would have played out his contract.
But then again Im a campaigner

He’s not just a half back flanker, he has the best foot skills in the AFL his vision his poise he will leave a massive hole in that side. One of the few A graders in that side that needs to be strengthened to make a GF. Sinn or Burton? talk about chocolates to boiled lollies.Let's not forget that Farrell was out injured too. Having him back will solidify things. We also played pretty well against Freo and Hawthorn without Houston in the team so it's not like he's the be all and end all.
Obviously we're a worse team without him but half back flank is the easiest position on the ground to play. Just remember that we don't lose everything Houston gave us, we lose the difference between Houston and the next best player (that could be Sinn or Burton or whoever). It's a setback but the biggest problem with it by far is that we basically received nothing in return.
I’d rather Boak help our younger players .
There is no way Ratkins can endear himself to our supporter base. Too much history.
Brace yourself for Boak to CollingwoodI’d rather Boak help our younger players .

It's all to do with keeping Hinkley (and his enablers) in power. We have mortgaged our future for each of the last few years, and if we hadn't given away this years first unnecessarily last year, we wouldn't be in this situation. Like this trade, we didn't need to give that away either. It's odd because you're not at the top end of this draft still, and including your F1 basically means you have no way of realistically trading up
Bit harsh on Sinn played great against hawthornHe’s not just a half back flanker, he has the best foot skills in the AFL his vision his poise he will leave a massive hole in that side. We shouldn't really attack Houston, just may be he could see what is happening at Port, with all this love shit and good humans first rubbish and wanted out to play in a real footy club, with a good coach with a board that cares about the club and it's supporters.
Is this a quick look into our future, Dan didn't like what he saw, including the next coach? It is true what they say, a fish rots from the head and unfortunately we have been attacking the coach when in reality Ken is just the result of the people that employ him.
With all that being said, we can change players, coaches all we like but until we get rid of people like Koch, Richardson, Davies and some on the board nothing will change.
If people think things will be different under Carr they are in for a rude shock, he is governed and handicapped by the people above and around him. It is a culture that has now gotten to the players also.
It's going to take a lot of fixing.
He has almost doubled his Instagram followers since moving to Collingwood.
From 9,000 to 17,000
Aren't the AFL supposed to ratify all trades to ensure that no-one's getting the rough end? They must have had a real chuckle at this one. Would have been handy if they could have protected us from ourselves.
Dan may well be a little bitch, but we were still within our rights to hold him to his contract. What could he have done about it, refuse to play?
This is the very question I have been asking all of last night and this morning.
They are enamoured with this draft and that imo has blinded them.
I would love to know if this draft class was not well regarded whether Port would have still agreed to the deal.
So why trade out our first last year then if this is some sort of mythical draft yearThis is the very question I have been asking all of last night and this morning.

In the end it's pretty clear that nobody actually believed that we would hold Houston to his contract if push came to shove. We wanted to trade Houston because a) he was definitely not happy to stay and let the club know this in no uncertain terms and b) we wanted early picks in this draft. Once the other clubs figured this out we had no leverage and got the minimum offer imaginable.
Funny how the club was not enamoured with this draft 12 months ago and traded out our 1st round pick but now they are. This is the very question I have been asking all of last night and this morning.

It's Wingard all over again. Do zero to maintain his value and let other clubs lowball us knowing we'll eventually cave.
Lol. Dream on.The more I think about this the more I wonder if there's some draft night shenanigans agreed that ensures our preferred players fall to our picks? Surely we don't just roll over like this for no reason?
Surely?
