I guess he gives us some locker-room entertainment:

The only positive I have heard is Scott Camporeale suggesting he can help our younger players https://www.fiveaa.com.au/podcast/sports-show/ at 42 minutes in.
Campo:
"Atkins, he gives you a bit of depth in the SANFL to help some of those younger guys, because they are a young list if you have a look at it and they probably struggled at times, particularly through there."
Rowie jumps in:
"just pause on that - you rate hime enormously for his footy brain dont you"
Campo:
"Yeah he's a smart player. Hes a smart player, and I used him - dont underestimate what he will bring to that footy club. I know Rory really well, smart player, and what he will do with the young fellas, he will bring them in and help develop them, he'll be a psuedo development coach down there as well. ..... hews a quality person, a great footy brain and he will invest in the younger Port players as well".
This makes me think Campo is coming in as a coach. Did he request him?

I’d rather Boak help our younger players .
There is no way Ratkins can endear himself to our supporter base. Too much history.
He can. Port have always welcomed outsiders who love by the creed.

He won't though.

This is the very question I have been asking all of last night and this morning.

They are enamoured with this draft and that imo has blinded them.

I would love to know if this draft class was not well regarded whether Port would have still agreed to the deal.
You need to realise all these justifications about finances and draft classes and players requests and managers bullying are all just excuses for being piss weak.

I don't need to realise anything, and I would appreciate for people including yourself to be unassuming that I blindly agree with any of the rationale presented.

Shai Bolton gets 10,11 and 18 with 14 going back. Wow. Just wow. Puts our trade in perspective.

Shame they threw away our first in this draft for two suspect players if they were that devoted to it?

No, the article says 29 was for taking Atkins salary. Not directly related to trading Dan.
Oh OK I see cheers.

Am I correct in saying

So 29 plus Atkins technically that's a win though people will argue given the player.

F1 For Luko I think this is still OK. This is a pure gamble that is "all in."

But 13 for Dan is complete dog Doo Doo.and where the trade failed

Looks like Vic clubs winners this year? Non Vic club losers. Non VIC clubs should just trade with each other, would be cheaper and fairer

It's like a gambling addict taking his stuff to cashies. Selling our most valuable possessions for pennies on the dollar so we can go and gamble with them.

Being enamoured with a draft is fine, but we've got 1 pick in the teens. We're not even particularly heavily into it. Not even a top 10 pick. We traded away one of our best players for 1 pick in the teens.

Do the board know how angry we are? Do they care? It just feels like we get shit on at every step. We get predictably shit on in finals, we get shit on with the coach not immediately being fired as the season ends, we get shit on by the chairman calling us bastards, now we've been shit on at the trade table. Do they even care?

We did better out of the Wingard trade than this one. Dan is also in a lot better recent form than Chad was.
This trade is a lot worse.

Absolutely. The Wingard trade was bad but at least Burton was a highly rated young player who had impressed in his 50 odd games. Burton was arguably worth a 1st round pick. Richards is several years older than Burton was and with no exposed form to get excited about.

I know we've got every Collingwood supporter and his dog talking about how zippy and how much of a goalsneak Richards is, but he's 25 and he's played 9 games for 6 goals. He's 177cm. How many people come back from that position to have a good AFL career?

The List Management can still pull off an excellent off season if they nail these picks in this very deep draft as this is their one wood and they know what we need. They like to go for super talent. Lets hope they nail it like 2018.

Kane makes some good points but he is essentially laying the foundations to blame the list management team if things go belly up next year, and once again protecting Ken and Chad.

Not sure what he means by saying the trade is an admission we are rebuilding?

Or they could use it on Pickett, oh wait we just picked up the 9 gamer 25year old super star goal sneak in Richards.

Understand he was a great kick but what I meant was it's easier to cover for a half back than a kp player but players come and go, so we will have to make do
If we were better coached maybe we could offset his loss, our bigger problem is Hinkley.

The other thing about Dan Houston was his durability as he missed very few games due to injury in fact he played over 20 games in six of the eight seasons he was with us. Dan was also consistent as he averaged over 20 disposals a game across 168 games for us, He was skilled, durable and consistent with it. Half back flanker or not you do not easily cover for a player of that stature.

As for being better coached I suspect we may see an even greater player under a new Coach and a new game plan. The thing that hurts as much as losing Dan is that he will make Collingwood even stronger.

I rate Houston's loss as the most significant departure from our club since Shaun Burgoyne left us for Hawthorn. I hope that Dan Houston's transfer does not translate into Premierships as was the case with Shaun at Hawthorn.
