I was told by Norwood mate who knows Basset very well, that Basset told him he gets very nervous before games and was even scared at the prospect of playing in the backlines. **** the kid is a better actor than Laurence Olivier, because he is so composed and doesn't show any nerves out there.

Maybe that's why he plays so well? Adrenalin kicks in, heightens his awareness and the kid raises to another level, like DBJ

Exactly what I was thinking.

Some people are overconfident and calm even when things are kind of out of control.

The Houston type, on the other hand, get nervous even when they have the situation covered - it makes them function better.

Houston's game so far has reminded me of Heath Shaw. Getting the ball in the backlines and delivering it to the safest place. He's not as dominant yet as Heath was last year and that would be a tough act to follow but he could be anything.

Has a lot of Heath Shaw about him in that he's excellent in maximising his Dream Team stats per disposal. 18 kicks, 11 marks, 0 handballs.

Reads the play well , can defend and is reliable with his disposal , he's an interesting prospect , I'll look forward to watching his progress because there's a tiny bit of X factor in there that could see him play as a genuine utility and not just a half back flanker .
All will be revealed I guess

Ken said on Friday that he doesn't believe he has the pace to play through the midfield - he said guys like Priddis and Sam Mitchell can but they have that situational awareness that Houston would need to develop. He said that he believes Dan will play most of his career from half-back purely due to his composure, kicking and decision making.

And there's nothing wrong with that. Could be a damn valuable player if he continues his development along the same trajectory.

Or another possibility is that Will Snelling may have been the rookie elevated. Whatever the reason, there will always be a bit of luck in a player getting a gig off the rookie list and some good players have quite probably been cut in the past because there has been nothing on the playing list for them.
Absolutely ... But as they say, you sometimes make your own luck! Love it that Houston has taken his chance with both hands & just nailed it!

Jarman would go to another level if he had more composure, kicking and decision making.

I compare him to Jasper when young. The upside is huge but for now we have to endure some mistakes.

I dont want to upset people with list-management talk so early in the season ..but..Houston's form could have a significant impact on what we do post-season

- he will almost certainly be upgraded
- Krakouer is likely to be under pressure to retsin his spot
- with 1 almost certain rookie promotion, will it mean that a tough decision may need to be made re Snelling, especially if Ladhams'form is worthy of pronotion onto senior list
- will the club consider upgrading 3 rookies at end of season, and if so, would consider delisting someone who 2 months ago would have been considered "safe" (eg. Neade who is contracted for 2018)
- would the club be less likely to match a potential free-agent offer to Pittard.

Did Roo say crers are after one of our players? Or were his comments just to deflect from all their celery cap hoo-haa. I note he usually comes out with something like this when crers are under the pump. I can't see any of our 3 free agents going there. If Pittard leaves it would only be to return to Victoria and Trengove and Ebert are as Port as they come.

The cost to their cap to poach a Port player would hamstring them for a few years. Let them do it, it wont work out well (unless it's Wingard or Gray).

Assuming we still have a rookie list heading into 2018, there's plenty of space to work with. We currently have a senior list of 38 and a few players that won't likely be with us next year (Monfries, Ah Chee, Toumpas). Nothing to be worried about at this stage.

My tip is that player is Snelling, if we delist him after 2 years on the rookie list the crers will pounce.

Everyone will put an offer in front of Pittard.

I'm still chasing Scarlett Johansen. That's going well also.

The tarp will never make it to the museum. Glenelg will seize it immediately.
