At the end of last year I was a believer that Riley Bonner was going to be the defender to slot in and play a role after we canned O'Shea, but I think Houston has pretty much stolen his chances for this season at least :drunk:

Looking like a really composed and tough player - shades of Byrne-Jones from last year really. One to watch.
Agree with most of your points however Houston needs to improve his defensive game, got 2 kicked on him in the first qtr. Bonner is more of a natural wingman than a defended IMO and that's where he played most of his U18/reserves games. Exciting future for both I'm sure.

He played one freaking practice match FFS and had 11 touches. Let's not go nuts here. If Ah Chee had played and got 11 touches we'd be spewing about how bad he was.

Houston showed some nice signs in a practice match, and there's stuff there to work with. Maybe leave it at that before declaring him ready for AFL.

How is that lel? Everything I said in that and subsequent posts was completely correct. He played one match and was fine without being outstanding. I then said to see how he goes in further matches, and to his credit he has shown good consistency.

Assuming literally anything else from that one game would be to show a complete lack of understanding about football.

Stick to your obsession with the crows and leave the real talk to the adults.

I’ve been really impressed with Houston.

For a guy that was a pure lead up forward as a junior he has shown a remarkable ability as a defender.

Penetrating, attacking and long kick. Reliable set shot. Reads the play well and rarely gets beaten by his opponent despite often giving up pace, agility and/or height.

Seems to love the club as well.

Leadership group material??

Definitely.

He's a gun. Skills, composure, hardness.

He is like a Luke Hodge back there which is amazing considering the draft pick differential.

He is gifted in that he understands and read's the ball so well and positions himself to be an intercept marking player. He is a beauty and rarely fumbles, great kick and is the consummate professional footballer... Just glad we got him as a rookie!!!

His is an interesting story and I would love to hear him go through it in detail one day. IIRC he was highly rated as a 16yo, injured in his draft year, slid to the rookie draft, struggled to get a touch up forward and he was on the verge of being delisted before being tried as a defender. IMO he should have been all Australian last year. I certainly agree, his kicking is a delight to watch

Sorry to intrude guys... straight up I'll admit that I've got Dan in my SC team however I'm genuinely interested in your thoughts on how he has performed this past month?

In full flight I think he is great to watch and was my tip to truly break out this year but he seems to be labouring atm and lacks intensity. I know he had a shoulder issue earlier in the season but he doesn't have any strapping on it so I figure it should be OK?

He's playing injured and has been for a couple of months.

I feel moving him around different positions has messed up his development.

I get why we need him as a mid but he probably would be pushing for an AA half back spot if we had just left him there to grow his craft.
I’ve noticed that he has been moved around a lot this year, totally agree with you that he is more suited to half back. Looked like he was back playing there on Saturday?

Duursma, Butters and to a lesser degree Rozee in the middle should mean Houston can settle back at half back.
