Does anybody know for sure that Tex only signed a one year contract, or is it just pure speculation? Given all the attention he received last year regarding GWS, I would have thought had he only signed a 1 year deal, that the media would have gotten wind of it by now. Especially when considering his form this year.

Tex won't go anywhere. He knows Stabby won't do the videos if he's not in Crows colours.

:D

I'm not concerned that he will go, I just find it odd that there hasn't been any mention of his 1 year deal in the press.

Damn right I won't! :p

I think an email from Phil Harper saying he signed for one year last year is official confirmation, yes?

Allef posted this, right? I think I skimmed over it before  If so, then yes, it does.

for the skim readers (and I give my wife this attitude to when she doesn't read things properly) - in my post about the other signings it was a direct quote from an email from Harps to myself earlier today.

Tex was only signed for one year last year.

I can deal with the attitude mate, but not the comparisons to your wife :D

Walker only signing a 1 year deal snuck under our guards. Does that mean he is out of contract this year? Hardly any chatter about him at all!

If this is the case then the club's priority needs to be his signature, signing Tippett is good, but his kicking holds him back from being a match winner. Tex is the guy that has the x factor and can win a game off his own boot, I'd be going there long before worrying about Tippett.

I think it's safe to say that Tex really hated playing under Craig, Tex is just not the Craig type player, he's not a guy who can play to such a rigid structure. With us playing so well and the players reportedly loving Sando's attitude and approach, I'd expect he'll be re-signing soon, wouldn't surprise to see another 3 year deal.

Tippett is the one the club will be focusing on, once that one is done it wouldn't surprise to see another two or three re-signings quite quickly then it'll probably go quiet until the end of the season.

Hopefully Tex's 1 year deal was just in case Craig was kept on and now that we've got Sando he'll be keen to re-sign for longer.

It would be risky for Tex to leave this year. His form has been outstanding under Sando, and that's what he risks losing under a different coach with a more complicated game plan.

Or Walker wanted to sign for one year and then sign a long term deal under the new CBA where he standa to get more money!

Had he signed for longer, he would have been committing long term at "old" rates. This way he backs himself in to have a good year AND get a bigger slice of the pie under the new CBA!

I guess we don't really know the whole story but no doubt that Walker-Craig relationship was not great

I really don't think we have anything to worry about with Tex this year. Last year yes, but this year Sando is giving him a bit more freedom to play his style of footy and giving him confidence by playing him week in week out, and Tex himself has taken his game to another level in temrs of his workrate, chasing, tackling etc. He is becoming the complete player, is half a chance for a coleman and is currently in most people's AA teams.

Tex is a country boy, a die hard crows supporter before he got drafted, he came to us asking us to take him as a NSW scholarship holder turning down opportunities with Collingwood and Hawthorn. In his heart he wanted to be a crows man but I suspect the 1 year signing was partly disillusionment with the coach / his development, partly wanting to give himself the chance to have a real breakout season and with the new CBA get himself a bigger slice of the pie. Lets be honest, Tex 2012 is in line for a far bigger payrise than Tex 2011.

Confident he'll stay. If there was even an inkling that he may leave - with Danger and Sloane done and Tippo close to signing, the likes of Rucci and the Vic media would be all over the story.

Let's look at it the other way. Maybe the club only wanted to sign Walker for one more year to see how he went.

Highly unlikely. He was only 20/21 years old, had equivalent stats to most of the best forwards in the game at same age, has a highlights real as good as any other forward in the comp and kicked 32 goals in only 13 games last year. The only real queries on him were his defensive efforts / work rate but no-one sensible would have a forward with as much potential as Tex at only 20/21 years of age and say we'll just give you a year to see how you go - it would have been madness. Most people would have seen that a season like 2012 (thus far) was just around the corner.

I was really only being facetious. I love tex. I should have said Maybe craigy only wanted to sign him to a one year contract.

Or maybe they wanted him safe from GWS? I'm thinking something like the $$ they offered were not much, given that he hadn't really made it at this level yet, but they offered him a 1 year contract with the option of revisiting $$$. That way, we we keep him from GWS, and he gets a chance to show what he's got to justify the pay rise.

One flaw with that logic. Walker signed shortly after Davis announced he is leaving for GWS.

The only reason he is now safe from GWS as an un-contracted player is because Phil Davis went there. GWS had a two year window to sign un-contracted players.

Came across this article on Danger in the local paper down this way. Quite an amusing picture of him in his under 16 days - thought he might have been more dominant than his average of 29 possessions that year.

I don't know about his U16 days, but in the TAC Cup he was used primarily as a negating player which probably hurt his disposal average.

Even the year he spent playing in the TAC Cup after being drafted he was mostly used as a forward or a defender.
