Dangerfield coming to Collingwood?

If you think it would take anything less in terms of picks you'd be grossly mistaken.

Do you think we'd be offering $750,000 if we thought he was just a B grade mid?

We wont have a top 5 selection and neither would Adelaide in that scenario.

It's either two first round picks both most likely higher than 10 or a player the calibre of Witts and our first round selection.

Take your pick.
Nope, try again.

Dangerfield is exactly what we lack.

A player capable of breaking open a game or swinging momentum back our way.

Swan and Daisy provided this point of difference in 10/11.

Pendles as good as he is is not this type of player, it is a quality he lacks in say comparison to Buckley, Pendles is class and sets up the play through great hands but rarely will break from a clearance and goal or similar.

Swan is now past his best and provides limited moments like it.

Daisy gone.

Fyfes game in 2nd half separated the teams, we lack a Fyfe/Danger type.

I think we are more likely to use those pick on Treloar.

Treloar very good youngster but what "point" of difference does he offer our midfield?

Shiel would of actually complimented what we have and offered that point of difference we need, Treloar I'm not so sure his game is that much different to our current group.

I tend to agree. I think he is a very good footballer and would be handy to have, but think he is similar to what we have.

Would prefer a quick, damaging by foot footballer who can go forward and kick goals

would love to have danger except in money he costs as nothing. do not want to lose players
like witts that some do here. hoping with 2 big rucks the future is bright going forward

Yep - that sort of coin is Jeremy Cameron money imo...

Your point is well taken ...

... But even that is crazy. Last year only two players in the whole competition were paid over a million.

Think of the players who would be on top coin ...

- Bottom clubs seeking a gun player to build a team around (Ablett at Suns, Boyd at Bulldogs)
- Clubs needing a marquee player to attract supporters to the club / game (again, Ablett at Suns)
- Clubs with COLA and willing to hock their future for immediate results (Franklin at Swans)

So for a club that is established, that isn't bottoming out, that has grand ambitions: for them to pay one player so much - just doesn't make sense.

I love treloar. Like I'll go running down Smith street naked if we sign him. But there's no way it would be two top 10 picks. Beams was only deemed worth one with a year left on his deal.
Chris Judd was the best player in the league at the time and west coast only netted one top 10 pick for him.
West Coast netted a top 5 pick, the previous years number 3 pick, and a second round pick. So yeah, they got two top 5's plus steak knives.

He is going to Geelong.......Adelaide is attempting to save face just like we did with Beam$.

Adelaide is just trying to get a "Crisp" when all they will get is is a "De Goey"......all clubs signed of on free agency restricted or not........the rules suck when you lose a gun player for your club but the longer he doesn't sign the more likely he is Geelong bound.......just my 2 cents.

Treloar is lightning quick with ball in hand. Will be a top 5 mid in the comp in 2-3 years and has xfactor. Shields may end up better, but would take Treloar over Prestia, Swallow and Omeara

I don't think Adelaide would be trying to force him to stay by matching Geelong's offer, rather than forcing a trade. They're well within their rights to do that, and would be silly not to do so if they're able to imo.

Like I have stated Apex36 his manager is one of the better ones (refer Ball scenario.....and telling Gold Coast that Beams "is not for them"....etc)

Both teams are talking tuff and rightly so but in the end he will get to the Cats if that is his preferred destination.....which it is in my opinion.

The rest of the stuff is just "noise"!

P.S I would love him at the Pies we would push for top four next year with him.......He is a gun!

I agree he's likely to land at the Cats. Whether by Free Agency or trade is debatable though imo. We are both, after all, entitled to our own opinions :)

Treloar is very quick and a ball magnet midfielder, who also kicks goals. Not sure who we have that does that.

Threads on Dangerfield and I just feel he'll cost to much. You can't afford to have that much salary on one player and it'll cost us plenty to convince him to come to us over Geelong.

I agree with you - just making the point that the only time you'd ever even remotely consider throwing that sort of coin at anyone is if you're getting that once-in-a-generation player in a position that guns are hard to come by who is going be well and truly hitting their prime while they're with your club.

For a player who has already hit their peak I certainly don't think they're worth it - as nice a player as Dangerfield may look on paper the fact of the matter is that as time goes on you're going to see just as many efforts like the one against the Lions on the weekend as you'll see like the matchup vs Fyfe (and the gap between his best and his worst looks like it is is starting to widen based on his form to this point in the 2015 season).

I concur.
But isn't this what we recruited Freeman for?
So if our window is still 3 years away, which it probably is, why recruit Dangerfield and tie up cash?

I'd take him over Prestia and Swallow too, but prob prefer O'Meara. If he is a goal kicking midfielder who can open up the play for us then I'd be more than happy.

Can anyone provide an example where paying up for one of the leagues 'best' players actually has landed a premiership? I think it takes more than simply paying alot of money for an outstanding player to win one. Premierships are won by already having a top team and simply recruiting astutely to plug a couple of gaps. We did it not because of daisy and swan x-factors, but because we needed an 'in-and-under' player (Ball) and a ruckman (Jolly). Players to simply compliment an existing strong team is what wins a premiership. Hawks did it with Dew and then Gibson and Lake.
