Re: Daniel Bradshaw

Bradshaw is your old style full forward and I love watching him play. Brown is your grunt chf blessed with class and courage. Franklin is a genius! Bradshaw can't catch him but god I hope he gets close. If Buddy stays injury free he will kick 120 plus goals this year. I hope Braddles can crack the ton with 3 or 4 finals games thrown in!

You obviously forgot to knock on wood.

Re: Daniel Bradshaw

I think they were very cautious with Bradshaw today so it would be interesting to see how serious the injury is. Hopefully it is a 1-2 week injury at worst. It does open up a spot for Clark and Leuenberger in the same side if Roe or Drummond come back, but if they don't Henderson may see Senior Football again.

Re: Daniel Bradshaw

yup, i agree. as long as its only a week or two its not bad for us. clark can fill the role of bradshaw for a week or two, brings berger back in to ruck. im more worried about the 3 or so players missing from the back half. its these guys that give us our drive and make it easy for the forwards. clark is good enough to kick a few in bradshaws place if needed. best to rest now and be careful with him then risk making it a 4 week injury. split round isn't far off so a week off for all should help

Re: Daniel Bradshaw

I didn't seem him go off, i am hoping he was benched and then he complained of hamstring tightness so they decided not to risk him. HOPE SO!

Re: Daniel Bradshaw

Daniel Bradshaw came off with a hamstring injury in the third quarter, and the Lions coach said he was "doubtful" the full forward would come up.

Re: Daniel Bradshaw

With Bradshaw not playing this weekend against the Bulldogs at the MCG, he may play his 200th at home (in rounds 20 or 21). If Daniel played every game up and including round 19 (against the Hawks at Aurora) that would have been his milestone match. Probably worked out for the best.

Re: Daniel Bradshaw

Lets pray the " Big gunned one" can return against the Crows.

Tough opposition, just like the Dogs, we need to play at our best to beat them.

Re: Daniel Bradshaw

Quote from Matthews in "Lethal's Lowdown" is alarming -

"We're not expecting or assuming Daniel will be right for this week either. I think he is extremely unlikely but I haven't had any updates on his status as yet"

I thought he was nearly right?? Is Lethal playing games?

Answering my own question here but perhaps it's a typo?? Perhaps it was supposed to read, "I think he is extremely likely", given that on SEN on Thurs he reportedly said that Bradshaw was very close to being right??

How do you explain the first sentence?

"We're not expecting or assuming Daniel will be right for this week either."

Matthews said the cost of Bradshaw's absence could not be counted in goals alone.

"You can lose confidence in your forwards. If you're coming through the middle of the ground and your forwards are getting the ball then you will kick it in more readily," he said.

"However, if you kick the ball inside 50 and your forwards don't get it, the ball can bounce out the other side of the ground where your opponent is. Then you start thinking that you have to maintain possession and begin to second guess yourself. That cycle has and always will exist.

"We're not expecting or assuming Daniel will be right for this week either. I think he is extremely unlikely."

Daniel Bradshaw’s four goals against Essendon last Saturday night moved him up to seventh place on the Lions’ all-time leading goal-kickers list ahead of former Fitzroy forward Richard Osborne. Bradshaw has now kicked a career total 414 goals and is only 28 goals behind both Jim Freake and Allan Ruthven on the Club’s all-time leading goal-kickers list

Form is something Bradshaw has become accustomed to speaking about in 2008, because his own has been close to career-best.Although the 29-year-old is quick to point out his average disposals have been les than in 2005 and 2006, his goal-kicking rate has been significantly higher.
With 51 goals from 13 games, Bradshaw is well-positioned to break his previous season-high of 59 in 2006, and is still a chance of eclipsing Alastair Lynch’s club record of 78 majors in a season.
While recent media speculation has surrounded the injury problems of Nigel Lappin and the possibility that a groin issue may limit Simon Black’s longevity, Bradshaw is cautiously optimistic of kicking on beyond his current contract.
"When you get towards 30 you do tend to start thinking about how much longer you will be around," Bradshaw said.
"I’ve still got this year and next year to go and at that stage I’ll be going on 31, so I guess it will be a matter of assessing how I’m playing and how the body is holding up.
"But at the moment I’m feeling pretty good and my form’s okay, so I’m hopeful I have a few more years left in me.
"I know it’s a real cliché but at this stage of your career you really do have to focus on making sure your body is right week-to-week and not thinking too far down the track."
Lions coach Leigh Matthews drew headlines earlier this week when he commented that modern-day players almost needed to be “force-fed" football away from the club environment.
Bradshaw, who recently welcomed his fourth child with wife Angie, enjoys watching football in his spare time but says it’s very much an individual choice.
"I don’t think it’s something where there is a right or a wrong – it’s something that each player has to make a decision on and everyone’s different," he said.
"I’ve got pay-TV and during the week at night I’ll definitely have a look at a team or an opponent I might have coming up. Not necessarily a whole game but enough to give me an idea of what to expect.
"It does get a bit harder to find the time as you get older and get married and have kids and those kinds of things. And the schedule in terms of being at and around the club is a also lot busier than when I started back in 1996."

Statistics prove Daniel Bradshaw is Lions' go-to man
Article from:

IF a game was on the line, which Lion would you want taking the shot at goal after the siren?Statistics show the correct answer is Daniel Bradshaw.
In a team that has struggled to hit the side of a barn door of late, Bradshaw is a dead-eye dick.
He sits equal fourth with teammate Jonathan Brown on the AFL goalkickers list, having played two less games than the top three.
But his 51 goals has come at a league best conversion rate of 71.8 per cent. And his set-shot accuracy is also the best in the competition, for those with more than 40 goals.
The difference with Bradshaw is that, unlike many goalkickers who go through elaborate pre-shot routines, he just gets to the top of his mark, has a quick look, then casually strolls in and slots it.
"I don't have a set routine. I just go back and kick it," he said. "I don't take much time. I just try to find something between the goals or someone in the crowd to aim at and then kick it there ... just like if I was kicking the footy with a mate in the park."
Bradshaw's set-shot procedure indicates the pressure of kicking for goal does not affect him, but he says every player feels pressure and he has found his approach the best way to deal with it.
"I spoke to Phil Jauncey (Lions mental skills coach) about it," Bradshaw said.
"He said there are certain personalities that are more structured and need to have a certain routine to follow.
"With my personality I'm better off not thinking about it."
Having said that, Bradshaw wants the ball in his hand at the clutch moments.
"Yeah definitely. Every kid grows up wanting to have that last kick," he said.
"It is pressure, but it can win a game and that would be a great feeling. I would definitely feel confident if I got the opportunity."
The laid-back Lion was quick to point out that he plays closer to goal than Brown.
But he is also more accurate than lead-up Blues full forward Brendan Fevola, who is considered an excellent kick at goal.
Bradshaw is a good kick from a distance because he avoids the pitfall most other players fall into - that is approaching the kick from an arc in order to get greater distance.
"If I'm close in I walk in and kick it but if I'm further out I just try to run a little to develop more forward momentum. I've never tended to go out on an arc," he said.
"Growing up, I always played in the forward line so I watched (Jason) Dunstall and other full forwards and took a fair bit from their actions," he said.

Re: Daniel Bradshaw

Kicked 5 in the round 18 game against North Melbourne to take his tally to 63 for the season, breaking his record of 59 in 2006.

Apart from Nigel Lappin, Bradshaw — who turns 30 later this year — is the longest-serving Lion at the club. Coming from Wodonga as a teenager, Bradshaw made his debut in 1996. So he has seen it all up north. The battles, the premierships and now the rebirth. Throughout it all he has been low-key and reliable, whether playing as a key defender or full-forward. Two years ago, he topped his club's goalkicking with 59 majors. Last year he wrecked his knee and missed the complete season.
This year he has bounced back and is in career-best form. Already he has a season-best tally of 63 goals and, with an accuracy rate of 72%, is showing the younger boys how it's done.
Few players read the ball better off the boot than Bradshaw. He leads quickly and decisively and has a strong pair of hands. He also has plenty of courage, being prepared to stand his ground to contest marks, when he knows full well he will be crunched.
He and Brown, who have played together for nine seasons, have a wonderful understanding. Time and again when one has possession outside the 50-metre arc, that player will show patience and wait for his mate to lead. Then a skilful, well-weighted pass will be put into the leading player's path.
