Daniel Kerr: what would it take?

PRO, you're asking the question and people are answering, but are you listening? From what I can see most people are saying it would take a minimum of a 1st rounder. In this draft, most probably more.

Kerr, when fit, is a class act (on field), I don't think we've seen that in a couple of years. Whether we're likely to again is mostly immaterial. The Eagles would still want something sunstantial IMO.

I might be the only one, but I have very little interest in looking to trade for Kerr. Considering the cost, recent injury concerns and little impact over the last couple of years, it doesn't bode well for a gamble we should take.

However, if we REALLY want to get a quality inside midfielder on the cheap, then we could possibly have a look at P.Hasleby. He is not without risk, but I reckon he could still be a good player for a couple of seasons. The last I heard, his contractual status was still up in the air for next year. An astute trade could well see us give up something attractive for Fremantle that we could part with, in order to secure Hasleby.

For instance, Dalziell and our second round pick for Hasleby and their third.

Of course, I am basing this on the assumption of Fremantle perhaps not being too keen to give Hasleby the sort of contract that he wants. If this status has changed, then a trade might not be in the picture.

Apparently Hasleby signed a 1 year extension in the last few days (source: afl.com.au).

who wouldn't love a player of that quality to fall in your lap?

but they don't come cheap...

what it would take? let's look at the ducks which would need to line up...

- Kerr to make the decision he desperately wanted to move...and to Brisbane specifically

- WC to decide Kerr's not part of their future plans yet still feel enough goodwill towards him that they'd like to try, if possible, to get him to his club of choice

- Vossy to decide the troubled star could buckle down under the Lions regime for one reason or another

- Lions to agree that the ticking of our p'ship clock justifies trading away a 1st round pick and then a 2nd round pick or a very promising young player

that's a lot of ducks to line up

...but it doesn't hurt to ask the question :thumbsu:

peace

YEH And he doesn't.....Dream OVER:confused:

Ok my 2c.

If you are planning to make our fringe player as part of Kerr trade, then be prepared to bring more draft picks to table. Say our pick 1 and 2.

If you are planning to trade a good player (say a sherman, Leuey, etc) then you can getaway with just our first round pick.

Dalziell (who is on our fringe list at the moment) + 2nd/3rd rounder just wont cut it. Its like them trying to trade for Luke Power with Priddis and their 3rd rounder. We would laugh at them.

Kerr is quality. When you list all 16 teams, if put the top 2 players in each team, Kerr would be there for West Coast. When it comes down to trading for players of that quality, you must be prepared to pay up.

Either do I really. But the question was asked: "What would it take...?". IMO it'd take at the very least a first-round pick.

Fair enough. The only reason why I pointed out my lack of interest is because I assume the the OP is interested in getting him onboard.

If (and I mean IF) Kerr was available I would take him. He is the sort of tough, hard-running, goal-kicking, never-caught-out-for-pace midfielder that we need. He is not just "potential" either - he is a proven, gun performer. Someone who can be the best midfielder in the game when he's firing. He is just about the complete package of what we're lacking in the midfield.

His injury concerns and off-field problems might pose some issues though.

I would be if he could guarantee 18 quality games over each of the next three years.

However injuries, suspensions and poor off field behaviour have tarnished him, therefore I would only mildly interested in him if he was available.

He can pack some serious grunt but realistically his best is probably past him.

Perhaps my initial trade suggestion was light on but I don't think he wortha great deal more.

I suppose the proof will be in how he goes over the next few years, anyways eagles have him locked up on a long term contract that we probably can't afford.

sorry hogman, was my post a bit too subtle for you?

I was making the point that there would a long list of IFs before any such scenario took place - none of which I saw as particularly likely or realistic

i was saying there was no harm in considering it as an intellectual (if futile) exercise...

...read it again champ

Don't worry it was read correctly. An (intellectual) argument taking place in the Eastern States often enough soon becomes a rumour that the Melbourne based media takes up and runs some story or other infering the player is "homesick" or "wants to move to Melbourne" where "the real footy" is played or "barracked for Collingwood as a kid" We have heard it all over the years and it's all about trying to unsettle the Eagles as a team.;)

That sounds like a bit of back-pedaling there!

oh this is good....stocka please find in my many contributions to this thread where I suggest that he was available!

Or you may wish to detail the numerous contributions where I acknowledge that he is not up for trade.

Clark + Rich + Drummond = Kerr + 5th round pick

Oh, and we should probably throw in a pack of minties or something to sweeten the deal.

dude it's a massive contradiction, first you emphasise you wanna know what it'd take, then you say that just cos west coast want it that it's not necessarily right... to be fair though, you've been all over the shop throughout this thread

How about the fact that you started this thread in the first place on a premise that discounts what you have just mentioned? Epic fail! :D
