When is he out of contract?

Apparently Lions have cap problems. I'd be in his ear. If he's contracted I'd be trying to convince to tell Voss that once his contract is up he is going home. Might force the Lions to offload him now.

Pretty sure it is in 2011. Unlikely he will leave the Lions this season.

They've got a lot of blokes in and out of the side.. pretty sure there are a lot more who would go before him. JB loves him and his delivery I50.. cant see it happening.

No way Rich would leave. I'm pretty sure he has said that he wants to stay a Lion because they're the ones that showed faith in him, and he likes the notion of being a one club player etc. etc.

That being said, every player has a price. We should just chuck a shitload of money at him and let the Lions play ball :D

Yep, offer him heaps and really put some pressure on their cap.

They look like losing Brennan and Rischatelli and that will help a fair bit and I'd suggest they will draft in kids on lower salaries than trading in 6 established players all with their hands out expecting decent $$$.

Fev has really stuffed up the Lions IMO, not a team player, too expensive, too old and too injured.

I'm tipping a spoon for the Lions next year so Rich's loyalty will be tested and with Brown, Black and Power in the twilight of their careers the Lions could be in for an extended dry spell IMO.

We should offer up pick 28 for Sherman, be a good chance of getting him as he was a Eagles supporter as a kid.

Didn't he sign a new contract this year?
If they have cap problems, he wouldn't be one of them. He's only a second year player, so I doubt he's using up much cash, and by the time he is they probably will have lost a few of Black, Power and Fev. Note, I'm aware that Power and Black are veterans but I believe they are on back-ended contracts.

This article is interesting because it quotes the Lions as saying pretty much all of that - specifically, that they won't allow themselves to lose their young players to salary cap pressure. Interestingly, it seems that Drummond is another candidate for trade, but with our history managing injuries in recent years we'd probably be better off passing on him.

All of this confirms to me is that if there's anyone we can get who probably wants to leave, won't cost the Earth and has a bit of talent, it's Sherman. And God knows we shouldn't need to overpay after taking Dalziell off their hands last year.

There's no such thing as free agency* in the AFL so we would have to pay through the nose for him or finish last next year (egads) to get him in the pre season draft.

*yet

Wouldn't need to be as high as pick 28, he's out of favour, more like a pick in the 30's or even 40's.

Great if we did. WCE have more promise than the Lions IMO, and Ill bet my left nut we finnish higher next year. As another poster said, they will be staring at some spoons in the next year or so.
If power and Black go, Drummond go. well its possible. Brown will not be the dominant force he has been, Fev will be,.... well... Fev.
Im not sure anyone would want to be around that club. Its almost as disfunctional as the Dons ATM.

Pretty much why WE need him soooo much.

I would try going after Simon Black for at least 1 or 2 years imo, could be very valuable to our young midfielders if we offer him decent money since Brisbane asked him to take a pay cut
He's a veteran at Brisbane, so unless he was asked to take a paycut because the club is under non-salary cap financial pressure, it's very unlikely we would be able to give him more than he is on already.

If Woosha is committed to offloading our pick #4 then this is one of the few players that I would do the deal for in a heartbeat.

Naitanui taps it down to Rich who delivers beautifully inside 50 to Lecras who marks.. Make it happen!! ;)

this wouldnt solve our lack of pace in the midfield but i would love to know if woosha and the eagles are thinking the same as you killerEagle because that thought of having naitanui and rich linking up again makes me get very excited.any brisbane fans out there that would consider this trade would love to know your thoughts

I really doubt the Lions would trade away their most promising young mid.

Gaff sounds like a similar player to Rich anyway...

...just without the the 60m bullet passing, ability to win contested ball, big body and most importantly vision...

Yeah I think we would be interested for NicNat to come and join Rich....it certainly would be closer to Fiji..

Can just see it now NicNat taps it to Black, who handballs to Rich who bombs it long onto Browns chest!......Goal!!:D
