Trade Requested Daniel Rioli [UFA 2027] - Wants to join Gold Coast

A 27 year old might have 5 or 6 more years left. It’s not like he’s over 30 already.
He’s a bona fide star.
A pick 6 may not even play 20 games. There are no guarantees.

Hit the nail on the head. We overrate draft picks on potential vs proven quality players and years remaining likely to play at the top level. Sure, Gold Coast would love a pick 6 player to play 200+ games at a high level, but there are countless players picked earlier and picked around the mark that have done a lot less. Gold Coast are completing their list build, not starting it where they desperately need early picks like us.

I've said it earlier, Gold Coast will be looking at this draft/trade period as getting Lombard in, getting trade targets like Rioli and Noble, and moving some points into next year for more academy picks. A great result for them is to get those three players, increase their hand for next year and maybe they want to keep a spot open for a slider.

Gold Coast have been pretty open with their desire to bring Rioli in from every interview thay have done
Dimma , Campbell & Cameron have all said they want him and will do everything to get it done

Richmond / Blair are being hard asses and want to milk all they can from this trade , Not sure if its because they dont want to let Rioli go and are disappointed or because the Dimma approaching his old toys

I dont think Gold Coast will let this trade fall down when its this close for a pick #23 which they dont really care about
#6 + #23 for Rioli #41 is what im thinking it ends at

Yeah good shout, or a swap in the futures as it gives GC options on draft day, not sure which one they would prefer, maybe they want the points this year or do they want them next year with the 2 highly regarded kids. Feel your idea is bang on mate, maybe a slight variation.

End of the day if GC don't get the deal done no decent player will nominate them in the future. You get the deal done with overs, they don't need more kids they need to make finals next year. They will swap futures to even it out, and that's more than reasonable.
So dramatic!

6 is plenty for Rioli, if Richmond wants to buy 23/29 with junk picks and salary that can be accomodated.

6 might be 'fair', he's contracted and you have headhunted the bloke. You will be giving more than that, and Richmond have every right to stay put and have their lunches

Bona fide star... Is it his Rising star nomination from 8 years ago you are basing that on?

The word star is clearly very subjective in it's application

Pikcs 23 & 29 will be off the board, sucked into the Pies/Port trades to GC

No idea why the Suns are throwing the kitchen sink at him when they could just get Noble for 20% of the price. Rioli/Noble/Powell is a lot of half back flankers to be playing at the same time.
Noble is not going to improve your side much, Rioli will. GC feel they are in the realm of putting their foot down now and pressing finally into finals. Rioli will be an important player in that regard, both ability and big game experience. Noble is not a bad player but why would GC go for second best.

6 is overs. And Richmond will take that in the end, they aren't turning down 6 for Rioli, or two firsts for Bolton. They need to regenerate their list and this is their best option. Tough talk on BF doesn't change any of that.

The Suns have other options for their later picks.

"Headhunted" is more drama btw. "Recruited" is a better way to say it, like every club does every year. Like Richmond did with Prestia, Lynch, Hopper and Taranto to give a few examples.

Who is "we" - the supporters or the club?

If the club doesn't want him to leave, they wouldn't be selling. Especially not whilst under contract.
They won’t sell unless a premium is reached. It’s actually really simple.

Oppo fans and media can make as much noise as they want. Blair won’t trade for pick 6 because the club didn’t want Rioli to leave in the first place. They’re not happy about him being tapped up.

So unless GC, who have spent a long time whispering sweet nothings to him, pony up, it’s off.

This one is very different to Bolton. That won’t be an issue. Personal circumstance is being taken into account on that one.

Ah yes all those times other clubs like Sydney (Joe Daniher) couldn’t get deals done meant players didn’t nominate for them again of course 👍👍

That’s the dumbest argument that just actually holds no weight.

Everyone agrees 6 is overs, if Richmond turn down that then that’s on them, not us lowballing a player.

GC need to get the deal done if they don't why would a player nominate that team.

For the exact same reason that other clubs don’t become no-go zones on the back of failed trades for contracted players.

What you’re arguing doesn’t happen. It never has and it likely never will.

The deals are comparable and Rioli is not just better he's significantly better.

They’re not comparable and it has nothing to do with the quality of the player.

Richmond aren’t desperate to shed Rioli’s salary.

It will be the 6 +23 with futures swapped. That is fair and it's on par. Just because GC butchered their cap doesn't mean Richmond won't be saying well you gave 7 for Bowes, do better.

They won’t be saying it, because they know there’s no comparison between the two trades.

I don’t agree with this, if we walk away (and we should) everyone including Rioli and his management would know that the Tigers hubris cost them a once in a lifetime deal, pick 6 for Rioli is wet dream material. If anything walking away would show the Suns are growing up

We have an opportunity to cash in here. We can’t lose. We either get overs for Daniel or we keep our bnf winner. Can’t lose.
Same applies for Bolton.

Nah we headhunted all those players. We groomed them, committed to them and got them.

Once again “everyone” is who? All the opposition clubs barracking hard that Richmond don’t get their asking price.
Or the GC fans who think they’re the list manager.
Guess what GC and Richmond dgaf about “everyone”.
They’ll make a deal that is negotiated by both clubs list managers. Not “everyone”
And both will negotiate in good faith. But he goes or stays depending on what both list managers decide. Not “everyone”

Jeez with this level of confidence there must be a long list of great players that nominate to go the suns?

Richmond have every right to demand what they want for a contracted player.

Pick 6 is already overs for Rioli, Gold Coast should walk away right now, it’s not getting done, Rioli stays at Richmond.
