stop looking at stats & use your eyes .... or if you have the games taped, look back on them now, without the emotion of game-day

Hampton was working his way into the Crows game style, in a new role ..... he wasn’t floundering .... he wasn’t the #1 mid in terms of role, but he has that element to his game, that can break thru zone defenses & break games open

Problem is impatience of supporters who expect instant results
Oh Wayne, you’ve done it again.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been told to stop looking at stats and open my eyes, I’ve missed it. Because that’s what I do when I go to the footy, I look at my app and don’t watch the games.

Hampton played 9 games and the preseason. In that time he applied defensive pressure and that’s it, he wasn’t improving. We saw very very little of breaking through defences and breaking the games open. He handballed more than he kicked.

And Hampton was doing so well he averaged 2.89 votes in our B&F, our fourth lowest and on par with Menzel. Did our coaches also need to use their eyes?

The actual problem is supporters make excuses or make things up, just because they are Crows players.

He was way too "inside" for most of his games, but Im wondering if this was his specific role(not that I think this is his forte)?
Wasnt Brouch out for a lot of the time Hampton was in? Brouch came in and played a very similar type of game early on. Greenwood then got going allowing Brouch more freedom. Maybe the same would have happened with Hampton.

Brad missed the first 4 only.

Looking at Hamptons pressure and tackles #'s while he was playing, he was similar to Greenwood in that he was often in the top 3 in those categories for us. Would indicate to me a bit he was told to be a bit more defensive when in the middle.

Hampton v Greenwood is a good comparison, Greenwood averaged 7% less game time but pretty much had him covered for every stat. But the thing is you didn’t need stats to show that, the eye is all you needed.

Hampton has stated he wants to play midfield, however I can't see a spot for him. I can, however, see him going back and taking B Smith's role with the added bonus of being able to lock down a FWD.

Running Half Back or bust for Curtly next year I reckon

There is much more to smiths game than just running. He gets himself in the right spot to rack up possessions, something Hampton has showed himself as not able to do. He also picked the right target the vast majority of the time while GWS got rid of Hampton for making terrible decisions.

Not sure I agree with that. Hampton was looking good until he got injured again. If his body gets right he's well worth a second round pick.

Meanwhile, Brodie Smith's injury alone makes the Seedsman trade worthwhile. He'll fill that gap and do it pretty well, I think.
Hampton was on the verge of being dropped. The injury just saved him the ignominy.

Menzel is already gone, Hampton is highly likely to follow him out the door next year. Seed is reasonable depth, nothing more.

Milera has big question marks over him, but still has time and talent to make it. He's the only element of the trade which could (maybe) yet come up trumps.

I disagree. Hampton came to Adelaide to gain more opportunities in the midfield. Somewhere we were lacking (think back; Danger just left, question marks on B Crouch. M Crouch hadn't shown much, and Thommo was getting on.)

Curtly showed enough in the back half to suggest it's worth a shot. Has pace, can tackle, great evasiveness and has all the tools.

If his career is to continue with AFC, that's his spot for 2018.

That’s true, but he was finally starting to find and use the ball a lot better just before his injury. I felt he was very close to putting it all together which is damn unfortunate. I’m hoping he can pick up where he left off and if so, we all will be licking our lips.

The coaches didn't agree with you. He got 0 B&F votes for his last 3 games. He was the lowest vote scorer in all but one of the games he played, and even then he was equal 20th of 22 players.

He started the season poorly and it only went south from there, until injury beat the selectors in forcing him out of the team.

I'm scared we've done the same this year with Lever tbh.

I don't think we would have paid what we did for Gibbs if it wasn't for Lever going.

Different scenario but the premise is right. Gibbs price only became acceptable because of the amount of first rounders we have in the next two seasons; thus mitigating majority of the risk through a high price

There's definitely a midfield spot open to him.... in our SANFL team.

Absolute Garbage .....try actually watching the game .....being forced out of the team was simply a figmentation of your imagination

Can see Hampton potentially making an impact in CC’s role. Has some very similar traits. Maybe a bit less ‘burst speed’ but that’s not absolutely vital in that role

Him or Gallucci
I would have Hampton, Gallucci & Knight rotating as pressure forwards with stints also in the midfield.

Agree, Hampton dropped out of the side because of injury & doubt was about to be dropped.

Like all new players coming into a side, needs to be given time to settle.

Hopefully has a decent run with injury in 2018 to show his full abilities.

All i ask is for a balanced assessment .....i've watched the early games replays & his performances were encouraging ....i agree given the GC program he came from he needed the time to adjust

We'll have a better idea of where he sits at the end of 2018

So you watched the early games again and not the ones being discussed, interesting, do you know he scored no coaches votes for 3 games in a row?

Where would you play Milera then ? .......wing or HBF?
I have Milera on a HBF to make the most of his ball use with Smith missing & Douglas off a wing, with stints in ball... but may end up being swapped.

9 games not enough? He isn’t 18, he’s 24.

He's in my best 22, but obviously on the fringe.

Imo, we have not yet seen the best of him.

We will know by the end of 2018 whether he will make it.
