I'm rapt that Darcy has signed on for 6 years. All Australian CHB 200cm+ players are hard to come by and is a critical piece to our team for the next 7-8 years.

I'm not worried at all about the 6 years - he will be 32 in the last year of his contract so maybe has a year of 2 left in him after this contract.

It's the free agency market.
You've got 3 choices when it comes to stars who are free agents:

Short contracts on massive money
Long contracts on less money
Lose the player.

Which one are you choosing?
This seems to be a long contract on massive money, so… 🤷🏻

Great news to see Moore sign on until 2028. The leader of our back six, and l think will be the Collingwood captain from 2023.
Hopefully his body holds up well over the next six years, and we see the best of Darcy in that period, with a couple of Copelands and AA selections.... Go Moorey, Go Pies!!!!.........

Darcy Moore will remain at Collingwood until the end of 2028.

The 26-year-old today signed a long term deal that could see him play out the rest of his career at the club.

The full-back has played 105 games and kicked 65 goals in the black and white.

Moore returned to the game this season after injuring his right knee in the final minutes of Collingwood’s Round 13 match against Melbourne last year. He was on track for a stellar campaign at that point, later polling in nine out of 13 games in the 2021 E. W Copeland Trophy count.

Prior to injury, Moore’s 2020 campaign was a career-high. Known as one of the league’s best tall defenders he dictated games in defence and attack from the back half. His performance was awarded with an All-Australian blazer.

Moore was elevated to the leadership group in 2021 before being appointed by his peers as vice-captain this year.

“I’m glad to come to an arrangement with the club and continue my football career at Collingwood,” Moore said.

“With a new coaching group and young squad, we are creating strong foundations for the future – this is exciting to be a part of.”

“I understand my role as a leader of this program, and I’m pleased to continue this work for many years to come.”

Collingwood GM of Football Graham Wright congratulated Moore.
“We’re wrapped to extend Darcy so he can potentially finish his career here at Collingwood,” Wright said.

“Darcy is already a vice captain of the club and I’m sure he has aspirations to captain the club down the track.

“All-Australian key defenders, 200cm plus of his calibre are hard to find. We respected the fact he was a free agent at the end of this year, and he would take some time to make his decision.

“We are pleased to come to terms that should see Darcy play out his career at Collingwood.”

I’m torn on this. It’s fantastic that Darcy has signed on, but I thought the days of long term high $ contracts were behind us after Wrights comments on Grundy. Looking forward to seeing the vitriol from certain posters on this site if Moore isn’t AA every year from here on…
Moore was never going to sign on for anything less.

Agree on your thoughts
Very happy about length of contract - locking in a pivotal cog: very hard to have a dominant attacking KPD
$900k...if it's true seems...significant
Would hope it's closer to $800k

According to the writer of the article, we're "wrapped" not rapt!

Actually ended up being more about how the players in defence run the show themselves. Sometimes footballers need to be more focused on keeping their answers brief and succinct. More words are not necessarily the best words. I actually didn't learn much about Leppitsch's coaching style from the response.

Great news. I would have been happier with say a four or even a five year deal, to be honest.

Playing at a level that justifies $900k as a 32 year old KPD with a history of injury issues is a mighty ask. If he can manage it, it's money well spent. Time will be the only real judge of that, so I've got the ol' fingers and toes crossed.

Length of contract aside, I'm now hopeful that Darcy gets the captaincy next year. From the outside looking in he seems to have the right sort of personality to lead this young group. As much as us old farts might miss the old school style of footballer, the likes of Taylor Adams are now in the minority. Yoga, free haircuts and lentil salads are in.

I wonder if the people complaining about the length of the deal with the money involved would be happy if we just let him walk? With what decent KPD waiting in the wings to replace him?

Liam Pickering is a shrewd manager and has no qualms in telling his clients what they're worth and managing to extract their worth from SOMEWHERE, even if it isn't the original club. Look at Buddy's Swans deal.

Pickering would have said to Collingwood "here's what gets this done" and if Collingwood weren't willing to come to the party or meet him halfway, he would have had no issues walking Moore to somewhere who would have given him what he wanted.

He was on track to be AA again last year until he hurt his knee.
Players of his ilk are thin on the ground, so it's good to lock him in for what should be his best years.
He'll be a key player in our next premiership tilt, and with the signing of a bunch of youngsters this week we are building the core of our next generation.
Yes, six years is a long time, but we don't want to go through will he, won't he every couple of years.
I suspect he was waiting to see how the new coaching panel turned out before signing.

On forums and the like I no longer care how people communicate, as long as they get their message across. The same can't be said for our current media team. It's not even the odd mistake. Virtually every social media post or press release has grammatical and spelling errors aplenty. If your job is to communicate with fans, you should at least have a high school level appreciation for the language.

Another old man rant over.

Having errors like that in press releases is unprofessional. It happens too often.

On the plus side, there’s a hell of a lot more communication/content coming out.

Is this the only way we can get big fish to stay at the club or something? We've clearly learnt stuff all from the Grundy fiasco. Interestingly, at the same age, Ben Reid had played one less game than Darcy Moore has to date. Ben went on to play 52 more in the next 6 years. Good times.

It's rarely a lack of knowledge. They're just uncorrected typos. Both writing and editing budgets are way down, so more errors slip through.

Out of interest, would this make Darcy Moore the highest paid defender in the game?

How would his deal compare to that of other defenders?
