So what would Collingwood do if Beams said on Wednesday sort it out or else next year I walk out into the PSD and you get absolutely nothing, no compo pick, nothing, just put a price on my head and say openly I want to go home, no-one else will touch him and Collingwood get screwed for screwing him over this year.
He will find out what playing in VFL all year means. Those bus trips to Ballarat aren't fun I can guarantee :)

I am not bound by comments made by other Brisbane supporters. Just as all Pies fans aren't represented by your views.

I wish he had this post as a footnote to every thread at Big Footy.

End of 2015.

Anyways, who do you think Brisbane will offer for Dayne Beams, time to show some maturity. I'm interested in this thread and trade ideas, even if it is your fringe players, what will get it over the line? What do you think will be the end trade, and what role might GCS have a say if what you offer isn't good enough for a contracted player?

I want to get this thread on topic despite all the pre-season pie in the sky trolls derailing it.

Honestly, I think it's an indictment on our FA/trading system. It's a bit of a joke that we have a FA system in place that allows players to move (somewhat) freely between clubs after fulfilling certain criteria that can be usurped simply by having a loud enough whinge that you want to leave and go to club x, y or z. Obviously Beams/father situation is a little different but what happened with Caddy? I could be very wrong here but was he at Gold Coast, for what, 2 years and then decide he wanted a trade to Geelong? That's an absolute joke. Clubs should have the ability to trade players without their consent (it's a fair trade-off for bringing in FA) but that's not a debate for here.

And before anyone mentions it: 1) Free agency wasn't in place when Luke Ball came to Collingwood and 2) As far as I know, Ball would have qualified as a free agent anyway and likely would have came to the club via that rather than the draft.

This sort of crap keeps on popping up like it's a problem with Buckley and/or Eddie. At the end of the day, a club's playing list has 40-odd players on it. If Dayne couldn't find a friend among another 39 like-minded people then I suggest that the problem is with his personality and attitude but you can believe whatever you like:thumbsu:
Not to mention the ease with which young players get to their club of choosing after their initial contract. But then I haven't heard supporters from many Melbourne clubs complain about that over the years.

If Beams stays at Collingwood, expect him to have lots of soft tissue injuries so that he avoids having to catch buses to places like Ballarat.

It seems to have escaped some that although the Pies can make Beams train/play if he wants to be paid his contract money, they can't make him play to any particular standard, nor can they make him play if he says he's injured (try proving that he doesn't have a quad/calf strain if he says he does).

The bottom line is that Collingwood's worst nightmare is that Beams is not traded and has to stay against his wishes. Not only are they left with a player who doesn't want to be there whom they have to pay $500k, they lose the value they would have got from the players who would have been traded in.

Beams for pick 4 and Greenwood is fair value I'd say. A player who can play the same role and do 80+% of what Beams does and is a similar age plus a pick 4 for later.

Just a matter of the 3 way trade been done getting North compensation for Greenwood.

Pick 24 and Merrett? Hard to get a read on Greenwood's value.

Sorry but that's complete crap. Beams is a professional and would give his all at Collingwood. It's not like he doesn't like the place, he wants to go where his father is.

Not sure if Brown was contracted those times. O'Bree and Buckley wanted out, they didn't want to be in Brisbane from early on. Different circumstances to the unethical behaviour in the Beams saga.

Yer darn tootin it was different.

"Buckley only went to Brisbane the first place on agreement that he would be traded to a club of his choice after 1 year when his name was called out at 1 in the National Draft...other players drafted by Brisbane at 1 in other drafts.just refused to go.

When O'Bree went to Collingwood from Brisbane after two years as a mid range first round draft selection,Brisbane got a great big fat nothing as compensation.

On the other hand Collingwood will get fair compensation now for a player who clearly wants out of the place.

Mate, he's not even from your club.

How would you know he will "give his all" if he stays?

As someone who has been an employer for the last 23 years, if a staff member doesn't want to be there you move them on straight away. Every time....

Why would Beams honestly do this if he isn't traded? It's to his detriment, not his benefit.

He may dislike it. Who knows.

But you're right in that he will surely play. There is no logic in thinking he will just put his feet up for a year and lose his fitness and conditioning that he has worked so hard on in the past. It makes no sense to me.

I'm not surprised Brisbane supporters are free to ruin this thread with unfounded hypotheticals which aren't a consideration in the real world.

Aren't hypotheticals by definition "unfounded"?

If your post is a critique of the moderation of this board, you are going about it the wrong way but I will say that (as far as I know) only two people have been threadbanned here, and the first one of them was a Brisbane supporter for constantly posting the same lowball threat over and over.

I'm thinking that Beams is much more professional than that and if he stays at Collingwood I'm sure he'd rather play AFL than VFL and I'm sure that Collingwood would rather another year of AFL footy out of him.

Also, it'd be very easy to prove that Beams doesn't have a calf/quad strain even if he says he does. A simple blood test for creatine kinase (which is a marker of muscle damage) and an MRI to have a look at the muscle is all that it would take. Of course, Beams can choose not to have the tests done but why wouldn't he if he doesn't have anything to hide?

He could easily keep fit enough to be right for pre-season despite coasting through the year.

Do you really think his reputation would suffer over one season in the circumstances? Clubs would drop off much quicker if he did an ACL.

I've absolutely no doubt that the guys at Collingwood making the decision on Beams, like McGuire and Pert, want him to go now that the die have been cast, it's just the terms of trade that have to be determined.

Give:

Bris: 1st round, merrett, 3rd round
Pies: Beams, 3rd round
Kangas: Greenwood

Get:

Bris: Beams, 3rd round
Pies: 1st round, Greenwood
Kangas: Merrett, 3rd round

?

It wasn't so long ago clubs were screwing Brisbane for their young talent in a situation they clearly had little control over (Polec, Karnezis ect....) It is rather interesting when the situation is reversed. It's like the country clubs taking talent from the state league clubs because they pay more. Will be interesting to see this one play out. Seems that Buckley will well and truly have his hands full this year and beyond, talk about a trial by fire.

Not the worst, but I'd (predictably) take away Collingwood's 3rd round pick from the 'give' section and Brisbane would just get Beams.

Our third rounder is gone - spent on Liam Dawson. Felt like unders for Greenwood anyway. Our second and Merrett feels closer.
