It's not 'can't', it's Brisbane won't offer quality players. Brisbane never had any intention of making a reasonable offer.
that is true however the players questioned dont want to go to the pies .. now what happens ?

Exactly! You think any of these guys saying we should take 5+25 for a contracted player would accept that for one of their own young guns in the same situation? Yeah right.
the difference is one actually wants to leave the club and hasn't attended the BnF .. if i was in your position yes it would suck but i would rather accept pick 5 + 25 + whatever else is offered instead of keeping him for a year and getting what pick 10 compo ? i highly doubt he will be playing beyond 2015.

i think the main point you are all missing is that beams requested the trade not the other way around. obviously if brisbane offered that to beams he was happy to stay at collingwood we would all be laughing, however this is clearly not the case. major difference correct ?

Yeh but beams has acted like a tool, I mean Patful is an example of what to do if you want to get traded to a place.

Name a state not a team and say if it doesnt work then no worries.

By not turning up to B&F and being a bit of a tool, he will have given the finger to bucks

I agree but it is about more than just getting picks and players, the club has to stand strong as well. You can't have players running the show. I'd rather get nothing for Beams than allow him to break his contract and accept unders now.

So it will be something like pick 8-14 next year, instead of 5 and 25 this year?

That doesnt seem to hard to comprehend either
sorry if im missing something im not trying to be a smart ass either but where do you get pick 8-14 from ? you mean pick 8 to 14 and thats all as opposed to pick 5 and 25 ?

nah i wouldnt exactly be happy.

but i would think that my club would have done some work into players like sam day , gorringe , griffen etc so that if we did have a player leaving we could turn it into a gain by having someone wanting to come in and using the player going out to achieve that. this feels like the pies just refused to accept the possibility that beams was leaving and never did any work trying to find some way to make some good of it.

It's not up to Collingwood to make it work, it's up to Brisbane. They want to get Beams when contracted, it's up to them to facilitate the trade. If they didn't want to give up a young player they should have found a way to manufacture another (late) first round pick which would be acceptable for beams.

two different scenarios.

1. player is from qld , with a brother who plays for brisbane , and a sick parent who he wants to be close to.

2. aging player wants to move to sydney for life after his career.

wrong. its obvious and been stated in this thread collingwood didn't expect beams to pull this on them. now that he has they have no idea how to fix it. contracted or not he wants to leave not the other way around.

plus its abit hard to manufacture some late round picks thanks to the nice 'deadline' you guys set ;)

Patful wasn't going to go to Sydney but the AFL blocked the deal.
I don't think Patfull is a great example.

So how much will the Pies fine Beams for not showing up to B&F night

COLLINGWOOD STATEMENT

Negotiations between the Collingwood Football Club and the Brisbane Lions over Dayne Beams ceased at 5pm on Friday evening.

Out of respect to Dayne, Collingwood worked as hard as it could to construct an equitable deal with the Lions who pursued the contracted 24 year-old All-Australian midfielder but, ultimately, didn’t value him as Collingwood does.

As everyone is aware, Dayne requested a trade to Brisbane for personal reasons, something Collingwood agreed to consider as long as the outcome returned appropriate compensation.

Unfortunately, this was not forthcoming.Collingwood’s position from the outset was that a good player and an early draft pick was a fair return, although the club did consider the possibility of a combination of draft picks. Even this failed to produce a solution.

Now that negotiations with Brisbane have ceased, Collingwood is free to pursue other opportunities involving players and picks. The club remains open to offers from other clubs for Dayne, if that is his wish.

If not, at the conclusion of the trade period the club will look to sit down with Dayne to prepare for the 2015 season.

lmao. amazing

In some way yes. But beams wants to leave too. What Brisbane is offering might be a tad bit low (imo not that much) but its also quite a decent offer. perhaps 80% of his value. Some posters are acting like they are offering us a 2nd rounder for him. If he is annoyed at us (which i wouldnt be surprised given he seems a bit petulant) then who is to say he wont go into PSD if Brisbane have a good pick before us (i'd expect it). We have also been a big recipient of the truth that clubs generally wont waste a pick on a player who has his hearts set on another club (ball).

What a ridiculous statement from Collingwood. Six days left and they choose not to continue to negotiate with Brisbane? Irrespective of talks over the last five days, both parties should continue to work together, involve another party, and get the deal done. Reeks of self-entitlement.

Collingwood just destroyed two deals at once, well done.

There's no way North will accept 30.
