Deeper problems than we know?

He had to get the players back on side. They needed to feel the love. It appears a few got a bit too comfy though. So now, he gives a few a rocket, and they dont like it.

Its a pity when Sando pushed the Truck around that it didnt make a difference to us winning and making the 8 last year. The other time I saw him get emotional was when we beat the Roos by a point last year.

Sando otherwise comes across as a passive bloke.

Structurally I think playing Pods deep and JJ up beyond CHF is the way to go.

The problem is Pods played his best game in a roaming role too.

Maybe bring in Mckernen and play Jenkins and Pods up the ground with Mckernen deep with Betts.

Jenkins can push right up from CHF - Centre, Pods between 40m out and CHF, Mckernen staying within 40m ark from goals.

Was listening to Wallace on SEN yesterday talk about the time the players tried to sack him 3 years into his contract. Kane Johnson and Troy Simmons walked into his office and told him the players had a vote and that he should resign.

If this is the mentality of players these days, the game is in trouble.

I just can't see it. Sando strikes me as a very very likeable guy. Players might have a problem with his game plan, but that's not enough for them not to want to play for him.

The problem is Trigg and the old boys club. Is it sad that I would rather us lose to St.Kilda and GWS by 100 than to win by 5 points?

Of course we could all be reading into it too much and it could be just form and injuries, but ever since the Tippett saga there's been a stale feel around the place. Sando is still a relatively fresh face, but the rest of the boys club is old and stale

I must admit this comment from Sanderson had me pretty concerned:

Does anyone think Ken Hinkley would find it difficult to engage with younger players face to face?

I know most players are on board twitter but deep down I bet they'd want a coach who cuts through the social media bullshit and tries to be as direct as possible.

He is a 100% correct though, these Gen Z types can not live without their technology.

Agreed, on the weekend we lacked that third tall out of square when Pods and Jenkins pushed up the ground. If we are going to play that way thenn we need that third tall.

You missed the point of my post. I wasn't talking about vB as a player, but as a leader. To a reasonable degree, that's separate from his playing form.

I'm talking about his influence during the breaks to focus and motivate the other players.

We've clearly been lacking that drive, particularly before games and at 3 quarter time, and I think a fair amount of that is attributable to missing a strong leader (as opposed to just good players).

most of the role of captain of the afc is not done during an actual game. vb is still the leader, it hasn't changed. if we are exhibiting poor leadership, it's because of him.

they did everything asked of them during the preseason. as it turns out the combination of the fitness program and the game plan has resulted in them only being competitive for 3 quarters before they have run out of legs. they then get a rocket for not running out games strong enough and embarrassing the club in last quarters. I'd be a bit pissed too.

You forget this is exactly what happened with our players and Gary Ayres, ten years ago.

so you are saying its 100% coaching and 0% the players.that is nonsense

I dont want JJ anywhere know the goals where he needs to kick, 0.4 killed us last week and robbed us of scoreboard pressure and any momentum.

The top 4 teams for goal kicking accuracy are Hawks, Dons, Eagles, Power - Saints is 5th, which is scary as we are ranked 16th with only the Pies and Demons below us.

You miss - you choke, its that simple.

Imagine doing 50kms a week while thinking "why the hell are we doing this", then getting into the season and having your misgivings vindicated.

Somewhat demoralising.

What makes it somewhat ridiculous is that Podsiadly refused to do some of the stuff the others did. Apparently had some quite strong views on some of the training techniques in the preseason so did his own thing. He has had absolutely no input from a coaching perspective.

These Geelong comparisons are getting really old. Every ******* year since 2009 we've supposedly been "Geelong."

We're not Geelong. Geelong had accountability.

Give it up folks.

In 2009 Geelong also had players with big game experience that knew when to turn it on.

They only missed the 2013 GF last year because Varcoe choked with a shot on goal on the run from about 40m out and 30s on the clock, (I know this clearly lol because I backed the Hawks and almost started crying.)

I fu**ing wish

Cats lost a close final in 2005, and were expected to push for a GF in 2006. They fell in a heap, and started 2007 shakily. There were significant questions about the club as a whole. Thompson was very nearly sacked. Players like Ablett, Corey, Chapman, Scarlett, Ottens etc. were questioned. The town was divided. Sponsors unhappy. I can remember the footy shows and newspaper articles. They were quite literally where we are.

In about Round 5 or 6 they smashed Richmond by 150 points and didn't lose a game from then on.

I'm not saying we will end up like the Cats, but what I am saying is, talent and skill and ability doesn't just disappear.

Something doesn't smell right. If we cannot win on Sunday it points to significant, deep concerns (if it doesn't already).

But his form and his fitness looks patchy. ... so what does that say?

Seriously? This is appalling on so many levels if so.
