If Gaff leaves I think we need to keep Parto. Will add depth to midfield, plus had a solid year at EP.

Nah, he's 100% gone I reckon.

Being midfield depth sounds fine but we have plenty of best 22 flankers who could play a bigger role through the middle (Cripps, LeCras, Rioli, Venables, Cole, Duggan) and a few mids who could use more best 22 games (Sheed, Ainsworth).

If Gaff stays (as the most recent reports would have us believe) and Lycett leaves, do we:
1) Target Kelly and a cheap, spare parts ruck (Roughead, Clarke); or
2) Target Lobb and abandon Kelly (for this year at least)?

I don't imagine we'd have the cap space and/or trade currency for Gaff, Kelly and Lobb.

Huh? Most recent reports have Gaff staying?

Forget Lobb. He isn't that much of a better rockman than Roughead or Hickey, his main selling point is his contested mark and reasonable mobility, but we have enough marking power. Target Kelly and hopefully keep an earlyish pick in the draft.

Pls be true!!!! I have been preparing myself for him leaving but man i would love it if he stayed, so many twists i thought it was 99.9% he was Max Gawn..
Posted this on the Gaff thread but 7Perth also said that he is staying in “breaking news”. Still , can’t believe it until I see something conclusive .

I'm hoping the club know what the compo will be and aren't just assuming it'll be end of first round. I'm a bit worried that $600k a year for a guy that's never finished top 10 in the B&F will only get us a second rounder. Which in our case will end up almost at pick 40.

Its my understand that the Clubs now get advised by the AFL what the compensation is / would be before the time period expires in which they have the right to match the offer.
Pretty sure thats been the case for the last two trade periods, as it was a unilateral request to the AFL by the Clubs as a "reasonable request", that surprisingly The AFL took on board and agreed to.......... I know a rare thing at AFL House........... but for once common sense prevailed.

Good to know :)
This rule would’ve been so handy in 2015 when Scooter left .

Pick 15?? Where's the arrogance? What happened to back to back?
Pick 18 is what it would be.

Got to remember Carbine Chaos is a Perth Football Club supporter and therefore cut him some slack, as he has been scarred by years and years of " the glass is half empty" sort of thinking.

if true, and if we can still get Kelly...be a hell of a midfield next year.

Yeo, Shuey, Redden, Gaff, Sheed, Kelly

Edit: and add to that the leagues best tagger...
Add in Rioli for centre clearances and the dream of back to back looks possible.

Question would be do we go "all in" for 2019 by going Lobb and Kelly for picks 20, 21 and 39. In rough value, those 3 would give us a single pick at 4 or split to 2 picks 15 and 16. Would think this should be enough for Kelly and Lobb but means we do not enter the draft until pick 71. Alternatively, we take Clarke as rookie or Roughead/Hickey for late picks and delay Lob by a year and still have a couple of second rounders.

Hurn Barrass Sheppard
Cole McGovern Jetta
Gaff Yeo Kelly
Rioli Darling Cripps
Ryan Kennedy Lobb

F: Vardy Shuey Redden

I: Hutchings, Duggan, Venables, Sheed (edited)

Depth: Schofield, Masten, Allen, ....

Starting to think this could be something special

Looks like Gaff and Kelly in and Masten and Lecras out from grand final team.

Dare say Partington and Mutimer will head home. Masten will sit in the WAFL. Lecras will retire as we will draft Jarrod Cameron and have Petruccelle as depth too in small forwards.

Scooter's compensation was one of the triggers that alerted all Clubs to the pitfalls of RFA compensation .... best not to assume .... rather ask and make an informed decision.
