Delistings - Who and When

Re: Delistings

I wonder how Buckley rates Sinclair. Buckley rates work rate but rates disposal skills equally high. My feeling is that under Malthouse Sinclair would be safe as houses but under Buckley I am not so certain. To me he is a logical candidate for delisting now we know we have to get rid of so many senior listed players and given what he has shown to date. That coupled with the tricky situation in regards to what we can and can't do with Stubbs and Farmer given they are on a minimum two year contract.
Sinclair if delisted could be put on the rookie list because imv no other clubs would be interested. Other players have shown they can play at the level, Sinclair looks like a kid on work experience. Prepubescant doesn't work in the AFL, he's never going to have the body for the top level.

Re: Delistings

Swan looked shocking at his age, not saying he will become a champ but at the very least you need to look at him another year to see if he can cement a spot.

Also Buckley when he coached the NAB Cup game V Port two years ago seemed to like what he had to offer.

Hard to know if the opinion has changed though. One of those players who will need to be elite in his niche role to stay on beyond 2012.

Re: Delistings

Someone suggested that Macaffer may be delisted then rookied. If I was Macaffer being re-rookied, I would tell the club how far up its arse it can shove its offer and nominate for the PSD. Been there done that.

Re: Delistings

Reilly and Gordon are our youngest key positions, can anyone that watched them this year give some insight into their chances of staying on the rookie list? or are they gone?

From what I've seen Gordon looked a far better prospect but neither of them have set the world on fire, at a guess both will be gone.

Re: Delistings

Bucks loves Tom Gordon and throughout 2011 regularly swung past his house to pick him up and take him to the pools. I have a feeling this was Bucks taking up a mentoring role! No way will he be delisted.

So if Caf wanted to be picked up, where would he go? If he told the club to shove it.

Plenty of teams would be keen to grab him in the draft. Of the contenders i think WCE would be most keen so they can release LeCras upfield.

Amen brother!

It would be an insult to the Caff.

Someone posted in this thread Caff has played 30 odd games whereas Sinclair has only played half a dozen so the club knows exactly where Caff sits but not Sinclair.

Well let me tell you where the Caff sits. He sits among a group of 22 that history will remember forever. He sits in very rare company. People need to go and watch his 2010 season and in particular his finals series and GF replay to see what he can bring to the table.

It irks me to even think that we cannot accomodate a premiership member of our 22 who only had a poor year in 2011 due to injury and lack of preparation.

Re: Delistings

I'm an early adopter of Cafe, so don't take this the wrong way, but based on trade week speculation, he looks a candidate for either a de-listing or re-rookie. Not saying that's what I'd like, but what's plausible.

If cap space is an issue, then Sinclair presents as a cheap option. Not saying they play the same role, but Sinclair will definitely be cheaper as a harrassing small forward. Yes, one is a possible pacy goal-sneak, the other a straight-line marking forward, but it might be a price issue.

It's hard to tell if no-one rated Cafe or if teams are waiting for a cheap bite.

I'm indifferent if we decide to cull most of this years rookie list but this comment gives me hope that Tom Gordon will be one that is retained. I would be very surprised if we cut him with our lack of KP depth at the moment. To me he projects as a bit of a swingman that could play a role down back or go forward if needed. Out of all the tall rookies from last year I thought he showed the most promise and improvement by the end of the year. I also saw him around the team (in the rooms) all the way through the finals series including the GF; so I think he will be kept.

I think we should have a clearer picture of where the list stands by the end of this week. Hine said in his interview that he and Bucks will sit down later in the week and work out where the list is at. ie. Delistings will happen after that.

He'd have to make it the whole way through the National draft, the preseason draft and almost an entire round on the Rookie draft to make our first rookie selection. If he got to that point it's pretty obvious no other team wants him. Highly unlikely to happen of course.

Personally I think McGyver still has a lot to offer. He has got us out of a few sticky situations with his various talents.
