Geez that is rubbish, say we play St Kilda, who do we get to play on Kozi, Reiwoldt, Gardiner/Hudson ?

Are you seriously suggesting Mal & tadgh as negating tall defenders ?

If we play the Hawks, who matches up on their talls ?

Who takes J brown and Bradshaw when we play Lions ?

Who's Hudson?

Alternative: Our best back 6 - Barry, Bolton, Malceski, Mattner, Richards, Kennelly.

Traditional positions have changed so you have them match accordingly.

Your faith in a defensive set-up that relies on Kennelly, Malceski AND Mattner, not to mention the ever-unpredictable Barry, is worthy but misguided.
Mattner is a good tackler but neither he nor Malceski is a particularly accountable defensive player. Malceski is still recovering from a surgical procedure of which no one is quite sure the long-term effects, and as widely acknowledged, is not a defender.
Kennelly finished the season incapable of tackling his own shadow.

Andrew Dunkley was hardly the most elegant defender, his kicking looked awful and his running style ungainly, but no one would argue he was anything less than a great Swan.
I hope LRT plays 150, 200, 250 games for us, and maybe then you can look back on your posts here and realise how ignorant you've been.

Well said Mr PB!

Sorry Duds but Gardiner has got the arse from ST.Scum.

Well said Mr PB!

No one mentions LRT's kicking so the relatioship to Dunkley onthat basis is irrelevant.

Dunkley had footy smarts, mongerel and was as tough as they come. All things LRT is not.

Hawthorn won a flag without 3 Tall defenders.

To accuse one of ignorance because they share a differing opinion does have a certain irony though.

Because LRT is the best option (if I concede on that point) does not chnage the fact, that this is part of inherent problem we have moving forward. Would LRT play inthe Back 6 at the other premiership contenders?

late in the season our defence, which had previously been
"rock solid" was one of our major down falls.

With Malceski (due to injury) not being able to generate the run of previous seasons and Tadgh have similar problems, when it came time for the Talls to stand up - they didn't.

Leo and CB played well above their fighting weight week-in week-out for the last 5yrs - but they can't do it forever.

Simply being the "best we have" doesn't mean you are good enough.

...as tough as they come. All things LRT is not.

Sam, seriously, I'm quite prepared to accept that some punters are anti-LRT. I don't subscribe to the theory that he is useless beyond hope, but as you yourself say, everybody is allowed a differing opinion without being ridiculed.

However, if you honestly believe he is not tough, that is just being ignorant because you refuse to acknowledge any good in the man at all. I'd say he was knocked out backing into pack situations more than any player on the swans list this year.

He has faults, I'm prepared to overlook them for the other qualities he brings, you are not and I am happy to concede that.

If you seriously think he is not tough, by inference you think he is weak, you really need to get a grip and any derision that comes your way is more than well deserved.

I repeat, for all his faults, LRT is far from weak, to suggest otherwise is totally unfair.

I don't think he is weak.

I think he is at the par level of any other AFL payer.

Tough by comparison of trade, is that yes he is tougher then the average man, but to be classified as a "tough" footballer you meed top be aboce par.

I don't believe him to lack courage - But if your skill level is below par then you need to be exceptional in other areas to compensate.

Open your eyes.
Look beyond your favourite scapegoat, check the individual efforts of Leo Barry and Marty Mattner, count the clangers.
You want to talk about players' mistakes directly resulting in goals, check theirs.

Whatever deficiencies LRT may have, lack of toughness is not one of them. He is as brave as they come. In this respect at least, he is well above par.

Agree, tough as nails, gets hit never reacts, just gets on with it.

Puts himself in the tough places regularly

From the Currie thread:

Have they already decided who they'll promote from the Rookie list?

They need to do it by tomorrow 2pm.

Friday, October 31 (2pm) -- Club List Lodgement List 1 - maximum 35 players, rookie promotion, retained rookies, scholarship player transfer and international scholarship.

By my reckoning they still have 37 players on the senior list. Not sure if the veterans have a bearing on that or not, certainly they have a bearing on salary cap and the amount of rookies you can have.

If they don't, we still have 2 more players to be delisted today/tomorrow.

It makes me very confusion

Barry & O'Loughlin are veterans outside the list and so we have 35 on the list plus 2 veterans, allowing us 3 picks at the national draft.

However I'm very surprised we haven't seen any rookie upgrades (and subsequent senior list delistings.).

From the main board:

SYDNEY FOOTBALL CLUB

DELETIONS:
Brennan, Luke – Delisted
Davis, Nick – Delisted
Everitt, Peter – Retired
Faulks, Peter – Delisted
Mathews, Ben – Retired
Thornton, Kristin – Delisted

ADDITIONS:
O’Dwyer, Matthew – Rookie List Promotion
Shaw, Rhyce – Exchanged from Collingwood
Smith, Nick – Rookie List Promotion

RETAINED ROOKIES:
Murphy, Brendan
Orreal, Jake

Thornton not too surprised, but Faulks I thought was safe. Also looks like Aaron Bruce hasn't been retained, perhaps he may be re-rookied. Thornton may also be rookied after his LTI.

Thornton's mate who posted a couple of weeks ago that Thornton had been delisted indicated that he may be rookied, but not guaranteed.

Only small surprise IMO is that O'Dwyer has been upgraded, but very happy that one guy I thought that might be touch & go in Laidlaw has been retained.
