it seems to me that the young lady might have irrational effects on the hormonal equilibrium of males.....

of course this flies in the face of many supermodels who say ALL the time that they're not hit on by males when they're out and about.... a widespread complaint from supermodels...

it's hard to resolve the conundrum

I think your colleague is an attention seeker or she hangs out in the back streets of St Kilda all day.

So your friend goes to the supermarket or Myers or the fish n chip shop and gets groped by strangers almost every time and gets told "don't worry, I'm just courting you"? - it doesn't sound realistic.

My kids are early 20's (one female) and the only time you could say that this groping type behaviour is a common thing is at nightclubs on the dance floor.
Groping isn't near as common as unwanted advances, but it definitely occurs pretty frequently on public transport.

Nightlife is rife with this kind of behaviour though. Really shouldn't pretend otherwise. Couldn't count the amount of times I and other mates of mine have had to intervene if one of the girls in our group has been made to feel unsafe.

I think it far more of a problem than exaggeration thereof, personally. I found it very hard to resist being a complete and utter w***er and write something about the value of 'lived experience' :p

Not for a moment am I suggesting groping isn't abhorrent behaviour, but the assertion you have just made is that sexual assault "definitely occurs pretty frequently on public transport".

This sort of blanket statement needs a little bit of substance behind it. Without that, it is hyperbole.

I said earlier that nightclubs are different.

I don't understand your last paragraph. I never said anything about the general experience of people in general (of them being exaggerated), just the reports from the work colleague of Heath's.

Sure.

Most times I ride public transport that isn't the V-Line I see that kind of behaviour. That might stem from it mostly being late night in the inner city and surrounds, but tram routes like the 12, 86 and 96 are rife with it. I'll try to remember (in my oft drunken stupor) to document it for you.

No, but you wrote that "your colleague is an attention seeker or she hangs out in the back streets of St Kilda all day."

The implication being that exaggeration is a comparable problem to whatever mistreatment his friend may encounter, or just textbook victim blaming.

I think you are confusing faith in "authority" with faith in science.
Ask why hundreds of thousands stood on the edge of pits to be shot, not even raising a hand, minutes after watching hundreds of others meeting the same fate.

Blind faith in anything is fatal.
Science has absolutely nothing to do with faith, it is a common fraud of the religious zealot to imply it does.
I don't want to continue this derailment but I need to say that I think that you are making a false distinction here. Science IS authority when it comes to most people. We do blindly put our faith in the hands of it all the time... Because most of us aren't able to understand it or verify it.. We trust it is what we are told it is.

As to the mass shootings. Not sure why this is even being discussed. It was accomplished with sheer brute force. Driven by snarling dogs, whipped along lines of armed men, shot if you try to run or fight back. It's no mystery how that went down.
Anyway... Ginnivan is a rapscallion.what say you?

Sure.

So most times you ride public transport you witness episodes of sexual assault? And certain tram routes are rife with it? And you take no action?

Or I meant literally what I said. It’s a massive exaggeration and she says it for attention.

Don’t read more into it.

Within the certain qualifiers, yes, most times I ride trams (which is mostly late at night), I do. Yes, certain tram routes are rife with it - most people who ride trams are aware of that.

No, I do take action, whether that be directly intervening if it seems dangerous, or involving whatever authority. I do appreciate your snide inference that I just sit idly by, thanks.

I was asking a question. Nothing snide about it. I find it extraordinary that most times you ride public transport you are required to intervene in episodes of sexual assault.

It's almost as if we are not the same age, work in different areas, have different hobbies, and belong to different groups. Extraordinary indeed that our experiences might not be the same.

Working in hospitality for ~5 years (thankfully over!) and frequently catching late night PTV has led to countless instances of witnessing this kind of behaviour, whether or not you find it likely.

It is hard for any of us to understand why anyone would accept their imminent demise seemingly without a struggle. Most of us don't live in that mental environment. I am not to convinced with the wording "faith in authority" as apposed to a sense of hopelessness and avoidance of further pain. I wasn't there, I have no idea.

Science is not about faith, it is about a body of knowledge built through a method. That knowledge does not answer all questions, no body of knowledge does so humans require faith to fill the gaps. For those humans whose belief system is based on science, faith is about assuming science is on the right track and will fill the gaps. To state science is nothing to do with faith is ignoring the relationship many humans have with science.
Science has nothing to do with faith for me, billions of humans and or tens of millions of scientists, what those who need a faith feel is up to them.
Some scientists believe in God.
That is faith.

Everyone knows the Earth is a science experiment.

There is no derailment here, Consider the essence of current day Ginni. Firstly the media focuses on something they thought was happening: Ginni drawing ARTN frees. They believed in the media's truth and in response stopped paying said frees. This is a clear example of blind faith in a false religion being the media.. Next we find Ginni is not ducking or intentionally drawing the free after he has the ball. He does it all before he has the ball which transcends current law. This is science proving the blind faith wrong. Then they changed the rules to accommodate the Ginni experience. This is a clear example of GOD having spoken to them as to what is the truth of AFL football. Now week by week we see the fallacy of their beliefs. This is the essence of all religions. Proclaim the truth and ignore the daily the reality. We are the ignorant faithful that believe somehow, somewhere the score will be evened. It won't, unless we take back one gf from the horrible blues.

You have brought it all together so beautifully.
That's what I was saying all along. Ginni is being crucified by false corrupted science emanating from media white coats and blindly accepted by the filthy masses of non Collingwood supporters.

I only brought the Nazis into it because someone had to. It's the law of interweb debates... Must include Hitler or Nazis at some point.

I hope you call it out and step up!

Yes, but what sort of fact is this? Is this a fact that you are going to back peddle like a unicyclist from on your next post? Or a fact like we all know ginni was actually searching for his car keys? Or a fact that if Nazi's didn't wear white coats the holocaust would not have occurred?

OK, OK, I relent :)

… during the Colliwobbles years there was a lot of hand wringing. People asking why oh why were we losing GF’s all the time?

Playing home games at Vic park was cited as one possible reason for losing GF’s at the MCG.

Another was potential arrogance. We changed the words to our club song for a while there replacing “Oh the Premiership’s a cakewalk …” with “For there’s one club we play for” or something like that.

I was way too young to have opinions of my own about this stuff at the time, but on reflection I reckon it was the burden of expectation and the anxieties that come with that.

It’s the same thing that knobbled Carlton last week.

Think about the 2022 season. Nathan Buckley and Robert Harvey gave us the biggest gift … zero expectations. For many supporters this year was all about development and getting a decent player with our first round draft pick at the end of it.

There have been times this season - I kid you not - when posters on here have said “I don’t mind if we lose this week” … and when I see that I double check that if I’m on the Collingwood board, because my homies saying that ain’t nothing I recognise.

Sure, the fans aren’t the club, but as Buckley has admitted this year that it is impossible to keep the outside noise out. It seeps in through WAGs, family members, friends, etc, etc.

I think one of the reasons for our success this year is that our players have permission to fail, to make mistakes, to embrace imperfection. It’s obviously working for us, but I wonder how long we can hang onto it for?
