Derby Day 2010

Seems to be a bit of on pace bias today at Ascot which is unusual although Motion Picture did make up ground then.

Mine missed the kick, got shuffled back to last and then didn't get a run, plenty of excuses but not good enough.

Even Astrar is a good result for the quaddie, fingers crossed I get through the next leg with only Sir Hallowell and Colour Correct then at least get to have a look at the approximates.

Certainly not confident in the next leg, quite an impressive field.

Nothing better then when in a quaddie leg you have the one out in front and the only 2 running on are ones you also have, no stress.

Jumped on Sir Hallowell as well ( know SFA about W.A Racing though! ) thanks to the posters here and lets hope he gets up and the form lines are pleasing. Took the $5 fixed odd price as he is currently $6 on the tote but is listed as the late mail selection and that 6 will come in to around 5 or under i think come race time. $25 on the nose and it will add another $125 into my account if he wins!!

Give me more money for Cup day if he does get up!! :D
Still $6 about for it on Sportsbet.

Still $6 about for it on Sportsbet.

Dont have a Sportsbet account i just use the TAB.

Is still $6.50 on the tote but i am happy with fixed odds if it wins!! Tote could come in at any time even 2 mins before the race the price can go from 6 to under or around 5 quite easily. Happens all the time to me on the tote some horses i back jump out the gate at 9-1 and they then cross post in front and pay $7.50 or something BS like that. The tote is a license to print money and they just roll in the odds at will. Crooks the lot of them.

Fixed odds is peace of mind for me and i know what i am getting!!

Got 25% of the quaddie if one of mine gets it in the next

Delta Gee - $2014 ($503)
Broome Time - $3547 ($886)
Snooperclyde - $3116 ($779)
Madel Grace - $1337 ($334)

Jeez I hope I find it, minimum would see me to about break even for what has been a dirty day.

What's the go with no.5 being scratched in the last? Do you get the fav twice over (since you already had him) or something?

First leg cost me, got greedy, kept it short and went for a big %. What only hurts more is 1st and 2nd in the 1st leg were picks 3 and 4 for the race. Gah, gotta love greed lol

wowee Sir Hallowell a howler!
Have got no idea what has happened here with him so will keep an ear out.. one almost hopes that he 'only' choked down. All I know is that he's had a lot of issues throughout his whole career, thought that he had been sorted by now but current results are speaking otherwise. It's just really, really disappointing. I know that Harro will be crushed - at least he still has WS, but even that is small comfort for the time, effort and cost they've poured into SH :( That was his chance to sneak into the summer big ones but he was terrible. They might even consider ye olde snippity snip now...

EDITED for Stewards Report on him:
Slow into stride. Raced wide throughout. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, rider advised that the horse was under pressure from the 600m and felt uncomfortable in its action from thereon and made respiratory noises following the race. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have returned with a breathing irregularity and was found to be slow to recover. Trainer Mr D. Harrison advised that he would have the horse undergo an endoscopic examination over the ensuing days and advise Stewards of the results and his future intentions.

Congrats on a nice quaddie collect

Had a very good day today.

Race 1 (Flemington), slept in, didn't have any favourites running, so wasn't too worried.

Race 2 - Had Maluckyday, also backed Herculian Prince (who was my tip for the Cup until a few weeks ago), Moudre and for some reason, felt the need to put a bit on Alcopop also. That decision proved the difference between profit and loss here.

Race 3 - Had about $20 e/w on Shamrocker. Not even close. Name has definitely been crossed out of my black book, may have read too much into a good run for second a few weeks back.

Race 4 - Most disappointing of the day. Had Sistine Angel and Solar Charged. Neither fired a shot after some promising runs.

Race 5 - Backed Gingadude for a place. Was very happy with that outcome. So You Think is definitely getting the all I've got treatment for Tuesday.

Race 6 - Didn't like anything here either. Would have gone with Retrieve if I would have had to.

Race 7 - Sacred Choice and Hot Danish. ;) Never saw the hype in Typhoon Tracy. Add it to the pile of Toorak Toff and Shootout.

Race 8 - Only just realised looking through the results that Response ended up getting third. Dubleanny's run was a shocker. Set For Glory was shite also. Disappointing again.

Race 9 - Had Poor Judge and McClintock. Figured one of the two were due for a win. Was quite happy with the outcome, obviously.

Welkom Gold bought it home for me at Rosehill Race 8, decided at the last minute to back it each way rather than just for a place, and it saluted accordingly, and made up for a massively disappointing run for Pyramids at Doomben earlier, which had a ready made win for it.

So for Cup Day?

Aside from being amazed you can still get above odds-on for SYT of course..

Not a lot interests me at all. Maluckyday in the big one will probably place, Uxorious in race 9, and Amaethon in race 10. And that's about it. Will wait up until the day to see what Flying Tessie has to offer in Race 4 maybe?

Geez Maluckyday won well. It's really nice to see two young up and coming stayers with few starts, both going into our greatest staying test and each boasting a legitimate chance.

Maluckyday and Linto ARE both very good, developing stayers. But had the runs been reversed, and Linton settled better early and been able to come off Maluckyday's back instead, the result would've been reversed.

Not sure if Linton is seasoned enough or will handle the track, but I still like him.

In the other races:
Race 2 Tio Rossa (9)
Race 3 Macedonian(14), very well in
Race 4 Orbiting Belle (16)
Race 6 candy Stripes (18) each-way
Race 10 At The Heads (10), danger Red Hustler (15)
