Another Brain surgeon.

DO YOU ACTAULLY KNOW TWIT. I dont want your thoughts FFS. Yes I know all past winners have been nominated The question doesn't ask for that.

CAN YOU WIN A RISING STAR WITH OUT GETTING NOMINATED? yes or no answers would help with a link or ruling from somewhere would be nice.

I give up.

This is a serious question for someone who actually KNOWS. Do you have to be nominated to win the Rising star award? And how does the voting system work?

LOL this thread is a laugh and a half. I can't believe how stupid some of the posters on this site are.

Of course you need to be nominated to win the Rising Star award, or else it would be completely irrelevant awarding weekly winners.

There is a panel of six experts who rank their preferred six from the 22 nominated players (last year there were 23), ranking them from one to six. Those players who are ranked first are awarded with six votes. Five votes are awarded to those players ranked second, and so on, until one vote is awarded to those players ranked sixth.

The experts' votes are calculated and added to form a total. The maximum number of votes available to a player is 36 (six multiplied by six).

However, you can be ruled ineligible to receive the Rising Star if you were found guilty of an offence and suspended from playing a game during the regular season.

*Sigh*

From the NAB website:

2005 NAB Rising Star Club Recognition Award eligibility rules:

1. The 2005 NAB Rising Star Club Recognition Award ("Award") is awarded by National Australia Bank ("the National").
2. Subject to these rules, and in National's discretion, it is intended that an Award will be made in respect of each AFL player nominated for the 2005 NAB AFL Rising Star Award (as judged by the AFL), if it is the first time they have been nominated for the award. Each of these players is a "Qualifying Player".
3. A football club is eligible to receive an Award where it:
(a) in the reasonable opinion of the National (in consultation with the AFL), has a "Genuine Relationship" with a Qualifying Player;
(b) is not a "State league" (ie, VFL, SANFL, WAFL, etc) club; and
(c) is not a team of or associated with any particular school.
4. Without limiting the National's discretion, a club will generally be considered to have a Genuine Relationship with a Qualifying Player if:
(a) the Qualifying Player has been a registered player with the club for at least three years and the club can provide documentary substantiation of such registration; or
(b) the Qualifying Player has been a registered player with the club for less than three years but has not been a registered player with any other club during the previous three years.

Let's close this thread

Thank you very much for answering the question. I was of the opinion that each round players were voted on and who ever had the most votes at the end of the year wins, just like the Brownlow. My mistake. And I thought maybe a player who doesnt excel in a particular game but has a more consistent season and accumulates mores may actually win it with out nomination.

That sure is a strange way of coming up with the winner IMO.

Thanks again.

don't give up...

but here's a more detailed answer:

Only a ********ing idiot wouldn't REALISE that you need to be nominated to win it. The whole idea of even looking it up is foreign to people with enough logic to understand the point of a nomination process. therefore, I haven't looked it up, just as I don't need to 'look it up' to realise it's a bad idea to play in traffic.

Well you dont have to get a nomination to win the Brownlow now do you TWIT. Its done on a similar voting system and the one with the most votes wins. Can you get enough vote without a nomination and win is the KEY to this thread if you Twits haven't worked it out yet?????

there are no nominations in the brownlow "TWIT"
and id put my life on it that you ahve to be nominated

Each player is nominated simply by playing a game. Just because it's not publically announced doesnt mean players haven't been nominated.

Not really that big a deal, they tend to balance it out in the later rounds.

In 2003 Richard Cole and Matthew Lokan both got nominations in one of the later rounds (Lokans was actually shared with someone else, just to get him in there) because they'd had pretty consistent season.

I remember Richmond fans crying about how Marty McGrath should've been given the nomination over Cole because he cherry picked 5 goals on debut, but seeing as McGrath was cut at the end of that season and is now long gone from the AFL, I'd say they went the right way by nominating Cole. Not that he's a superstar, but he's still in the league.
