Believe it or not there was, at the time, some reasonable support for Diggers and plenty of excuses made, not unlike the unconditional support we get for some current players. "He is being played out of position." "If only he was given more of a run." "He's great on the oppositions 3rd (or 10th) backman." "It's the room he creates for other forwards" "His one percenters are great..." etc.

Well, to be more precise I personally said he'd never be the sort of player I could ever see playing in a premiership or helping a team to do so. That kind of "make it".
