Believe it or not there was, at the time, some reasonable support for Diggers and plenty of excuses made, not unlike the unconditional support we get for some current players. "He is being played out of position." "If only he was given more of a run." "He's great on the oppositions 3rd (or 10th) backman." "It's the room he creates for other forwards" "His one percenters are great..." etc.

I am a little lost as to where exactly he 'didn't make it'? It looks to me as though he played 70 odd AFL games between 2 clubs, that's alot more than alot of people. I could be mistaken though, so how did he not make it?

Well, to be more precise I personally said he'd never be the sort of player I could ever see playing in a premiership or helping a team to do so. That kind of "make it". Okay?

The old Diggers never quite had the physique to cut it. On raw stats a pretty big unit, bu tno bulk behind it, and no pace to compensate.

Still, should go well in the VFL or another state league where his footy smarts and leadership will get him though.

I liked Diggers as well, so good luck fella. Top bloke. Would've been even better ten years earlier. "Cochers" will stay at Centrals I reckon and Diggers will surely get a gig in the SANFL or WAFL as well, and will be a star CHF at that standard.
