Kurve, you might be thinking of the Overington book? It paraphrases an interview by Det Snr Cst Debra Nelson with William's sister on Monday 15 Sep 2014 - William's sister says "balcony" when referring to the patio / verandah / deck where they'd been sitting when William went missing.

pages 81 to 84, "Missing William Tyrrell", rev. ed. 2021
Side note: Debra Nelson quit in March 2016, after 15 years with NSWPOL.

This is a photo of page 81 in "Missing William Tyrrell", rev. ed. 2021. I'll post this to see if it can be read and then either post the other three pages too or delete this post.

Do you have the rest of it? It will spare me searching for the 'balcony' comment.

Also, "words to the affect" isn't what I'd call a statement. It's recall.

The FD statement should have been video recorded.
It would be good to have LT's actual words. I was thinking about it when we were discussing whether he might have been put on the balcony to wait till FF came home.

It seems like Overington must have had access to some or all of the FD interview and/or transcript. But it's not in the public domain AFAIK.
Sadly Overington seems to be 'over' the case too.
It makes me really annoyed. If documents can be released to reporters for commercial use (for a book or podcast or media reports), there should be a way they can be redacted and released to the public too - seeing that we just want to solve the case or understand what happened, not make money out if it.

Wasn’t it something like……’went off the balcony looking for FF’

I suspect the phrase was an explanation given to FD by FM to explain his absence. She had to say something so she contrived he went off searching for FF. Just a suggestion mind you

FM's suggestion that William go look for FF might have been made before William went missing:

'She [FM] told the [coroners] court that William had been "getting very bored" just before he vanished and they were waiting for his foster father to return from the nearby town of Laurieton.[?]

She had been expecting her husband to return from a visit to the chemist and a telephone conference meeting between 10.15am and 10.30am that morning.

"William's sister was still drawing," she said.

"He was getting very bored with the game. He was running up and down.

"I said to William (and his sister) 'you know what? Why don't we go down and see if Daddy's car is here yet'."

- News.com.au, 26 March 2019; emphasis by me

The suggestion was a bit different when recounted by FGM (quoted in the Chumley book, which doesn't specify which interview it's referring to, and uses the pseudonyms "Nancy" for FGM and "Anna" for FM):

"In her interview, Nancy [FGM] spoke of her relief when William dashed around that corner.

'I remember thinking, oh, there's peace and quiet. I remember that.' [snipped] After the children were rolling the dice, there was a point where Anna [FM] did say, "Why don't you see if Daddy's home yet?" And William went to have a look.'"

And Happy New Year to the cheeky little tyke who won so many hearts.
Keep digging people, and keep asking questions.
At the very least, William's memory deserves answers.

There's only one problem, too many places to dig there and beyond.
Happy New Year to everyone.
This excludes the guilty who are responsible for Williams disappearance, another year for your conscience to annoy the shit out of you and your life.
Sorry to be negative on my first post, for the rest of us a very good year.

Knowing what we know now about the fosters, I wonder if he misbehaved and was put on the upper balcony to wait for Daddy's return to mete out his punishment. Being Spidermanned out, he may have thought he could escape by using his super powers to shimmy down the balcony.

If William did shimmy down the balcony he must have done it without leaving any evidence. IMO one of the few things found by forensic searches was that he didn't fall from the verandah / upper balcony and die below.

Do we know if they fingerprinted the high balcony rails?

Fingerprinting on surfaces in and around the house, cars etc may have been informative even if it indicated someone who shouldn't have been there, was. If William handled the rails at the high end etc.

Even the FM or FF.

That search was in 2021. Maybe if they had considered the balcony fall theory in 2014 there might have been some evidence, if he did die in a fall. Remember, the house had already passed through two (I think) new owners, who could well have destroyed any evidence, if it existed.

😳 OMG the FGM really said that? (Peace and quiet) this backs up my statement the parents bought chaos to FG.

Kurve, do you remember the photo of the top balcony. Someone sitting on the stool with cushion next to the rail, the FGM, the FM and the police all standing at the rail? I would imagine any fingerprints or DNA would have been contaminated.
Was the ladder there when Wm. Went missing? FD was still there. What is wrong with that family? Do they not see any dangers?

So what is it then? Did he go around the corner playing a game and roaring or did he instead go looking for FF because he was bored and FM sought to distract him? The FM and FGM are very prone to story telling. Perhaps there was no last roar at all. He went around the corner to look for FF who was scheduled to return to driveway and FM then after some time noted “gee he’s quiet mum, I’m going to go check on him?”….to realise he was gone. He was bored is a euphemism for he was causing conflict imo

The distinction is important of course because what was uppermost in his mind would give insight to his intentions. This presupposes there was no death at someone’s hand that was then lied about entirely including how and when he went missing. I’m inclined to think the story most believable and untainted is the one by an innocent party that had no axe to grind. The FD who confirmed he went looking for FF.

So IF he went around corner to go look for FF then does that preclude an ugly incident with FM causing death? How would one arise if he genuinely went around corner for that purpose? Did she confront him when she caught up with him around the corner out of sight? Perhaps.

What is interesting is how the story has evolved from going looking for FF to instead playing daddy tiger and roaring at an invisible person? I’ve never believed that. The story though serves a purpose of making the abduction theory more powerful. He was just playing innocently for 5 min alone and was snatched away…….how can that have happened. An old magicians trick look at this hand whilst the other hand does the deed. Conclusion: he went looking for FF. There was tension and peace of mind he went. I suspect there had been an argument with FM and the habit he had was to use the FF to overturn the FM edict. That’s why he went searching. Conjecture of course.
