Not much to chat about in the bye week. It couldn't come soon enough at the snakepit after a disastrous 5 weeks! I imagine a lot of clubs are relishing the week-off and hope to have a couple back this time next week.

lets get back into it

Tips
UHS over South Melb - 19 points
Albert Park over Canterbury - 7 points
La Trobe over Aquinas - 43 points
Hawthorn over Glen Eira - 30 points
Powerhouse over Parkside - 47 points
Swinburne over 'wicks - 18 points

Another good year of D3 football. A very even competition with good players throughout each club. Haven't seen everyone so far but clearly the improvers are Latrobe Glen Eira and Albert Park. Hawthorn continuing on from the great form of last year. Disappointments so far are Aquinas and Swinburne. Looking at the fixture l can't see Latrobe getting beaten for the rest of the season.

Tips for round 10
Albert Park over Canterbury - 7 points
Hawthorn over Glen Gryphons - 4 points
La Trobe over Aquinas - 46 points
House over Parkside - 69 points
Swinny over Elsternwick - 15 points
UHS over Sth Melb - 42 points

Great game out at Hawthorn. Battle of the top two undefeated teams with the Glen Eira Saints coming out on top after chasing down a 35 point lead at the end of the first quarter. That backline is definitely the best in D3 as is their potent forward line. The return match will also be a ripper. Fantastic crowd before and after the game. The Saints always stick around at the away games. Good to see the VAFA boss drawing the raffle, gives him a chance to see how good footy is at the D3 level.

The Cobbies are back on the winners list! Great win at the snake-pit with the big Waaaalllllms back to his best :).

Good to see our D4 Grand final opponents Parkside get their first win of the year.... Don't think many would have tipped GE over the rampaging Hawks, especially at Rathmines.

Was an honour to be ticking over the goal column at the snake pit on the weekend. Cobbies looked good, still a few cobwebs to blow out of the system but ominous signs for other teams as the Cobbies look to regain their 2015 form.

This division is full of surprises. Latrobe now just one game behind Hawthorn who blew a 7 goal lead early in the second term. Would be pretty disappointed after such a start. Great persitance by GE also to fight their way back into the game and not panic. With Swinny at home this week, the saints have a chance for anothe % booster to close the gap on the hawks %.

Only 1 game and % seperates 4th from 9th. Incredible results with teams losing if not on their game. Aquinas have fallen right away, kicking only 1 goal in each of their last two matches. If Parkside defeat Elsternwick this week, Aquinas are suddenly in a battle to avoid relegation.

After seeing the game who is your tip for the flag? A long way out I know, but these seem to be the two prime contenders.
If, as I have been told, GLEN Eira had 6 or 7 of their walkup 1's players unavailable, going on Saturday's performance, one would have to think they would be red hot favourites. However, as you said, it's a long way out and football can be a funny game.

Aquinas 3 goals in 3 games, what's going on?

When Aquinas played Glen Eira a few weeks back they started with 14 players in the reserves and had to go and get half a dozen players from their under 19's. one of their players played 3 games, U19, reserves and seniors. They have a severe shortage of players and off field help. Seems strange for a school side.

Same again on the weekend - believe they only had 13 for the ressies plus all the unders backing up. Also only 3 or 4 blokes playing from when we matched up in finals last year. Full credit to them though as they are at least rolling a side out each week rather that forfeiting games.

Unfortunately, this is a common occurrence with teams that Barney coaches. Probably, the toughest competitor I have seen play in the VAFA but unfortunately I think he expects everyone to be like him. His brash and tough style wears thin after a couple of years.
Absolutely legend of the VAFA Barney is, but I think the modern style of coaching doesn't quite fit him.
