West Coast Eagles Priority Pick (2024)

but guys, don't forget about the team culture that North built by winning that round 24 game against the Suns.

Spot on. All that tanking leads to losing culture stuff is horseshit. The only thing that fixes culture is drafting the right players with the right attributes and tanking provides greater opportunity to draft those players. If you had drafted Martin instead of Trengove, Carlton drafted Pendlebury instead of Murphy, the losing culture narrative would never have existed in the first place.

Yes we should. If afl want a big bang for your buck then give us PP. It will bring legitimacy behind pp as helping a club. So far north has made afl assistance a joke. Give us one to prove it's not.

Pyke needs to bang the door about PP and link it to Tassie
equalization eh?

Yet Port gets to rot on a yearly basis with Ken Hinley as coach? lol

We also won a game against the doggies in Melbourne. Culture is everything.

Look at how few top ten picks we won in ‘18 with. Of the very few we had (4 or 5 off the top of my head) 3 didn’t play the gf.

West coast exist to win flags - not tanking ever creates a different mindset

The last 3 games they have looked like a quality AFL team not easybeats by any imagination.

They were competitive against the Swans & actually at times looked like they could have won.

Scoreboard against us didn't reflect the game. West Coast had all the play at times but just committed shocking turnovers.

That was basically the story of the first 3 weeks of the year for us, looked massively improved in the contest on the last couple of years but any time we'd find some space the ball would just be turned over horribly and then we'd just be burnt on transition on repeat. Knew once those errors got tightened up our fortunes would turn a bit, didn't expect we'd be as good as we have been the last couple of weeks however. Very possible we just caught 2 teams on 2 terrible days for them so still a long way to go, hopefully the improved performances will give the team a lot more confidence going forward and we remain competitive.

I disagree, teams haven't tanked and haven't won flags and teams have and have won flags. There is no cause and effect. All that matters is talent, sometimes you tank and the talent isn't good, other times like in this case, it absolutely would have been and Reid moves a teams culture far more significantly than a single win thats forgotten about. Right now North would be in a far better place going forward if they had tanked.

So did the Bulldogs and Collingwood. And both have benefited from academy and father son access?

So its ok for decent sides to win a flag and still get academy kids like JUH and multiple father son access? But struggling clubs deserve nothing.

Maybe fans should be question why the AFL allowed that and continues to allow successful teams access others do not have or rarely comes about.

Honestly can't understand WCE fans begging for priority picks. You won a Premiership 5 years ago, and that premiership was the end of the road for that group of players.. hence why many of them are no longer there, and the ones that are still there are old and slow and not what they used to be. Time to rebuild.. simple as that.

No to any priority picks for the Eagles. They just got Reid as a gift from North Melbourne, Gold Coast have been able to build incredibly in the past few years so it can be done, but they better be quick with a new team coming it isn't a good time to be down the bottom. The AFL have three teams currently who are equally in the mire.
🤣🤣 And why is that Sherlock?

Who begging? Happy to get no assistance as long as academy and father son assistance stops. But it wont will it? Eddie would throw the toys out the cot.

Just pointing out the hypocracy of many who post on here. Collingwood fans like yourself are just one more example.

Collingwood fans happy to benefit from assistance that produced four premiership players. An academy pick like Quanor, and three father sons like Moore the captain and two gun Diacos brothers. But when other fans point out the inequity you say they are begging for picks.

Lol. Enjoy your clubs draft assistance. It helped you win a premiership.

Give WA teams and SA teams their academies too. Or would equality not sit right with you?

You wouldn't have Scott Pendlebury if it wasn't for Priority picks...2 and 3 years after playing in a grand finals, a priority system where winning less than 5 games gave you the number start of R1 pick!

No one begging for picks here, clearly just stating that if we had another catastrophic season we'd be well within our rights to apply for one based on recent precedent. Not to mention half the other clubs in the competitions academy, f/s, FA compo and priority picks have decimated our draft hand the last few years, resulting in the lowest ever 2nd round pick for a wooden spooner last year, and a historically bad one at that while the team above us has received 5 priority picks in the last 2 years.

I don't think anyone would say we aren't rebuilding but Yeo, Gov, Barrass are all playing at AA or near AA level, maybe you should watch some football before commenting next time.

1. Post about other clubs' hypocrisy.
2. Note that club's draft assistance helped win them a premiership.
3. Forget that your most recent Norm Smith Medallist was a priority pick.
4. Also forget that your club's leading goalkicker that year was also a priority pick.

Both Daicos' would have ended up as Pies regardless. Moore arguably would have still ended up as a Pie. Quaynor the only serious gift

Whos tanked and won flags?

Melbourne?

Did you miss the epic flatline they had for a decade where they had to totally rebuild the culture with Roos?

Carlton? Jaysus, still havnt won a flag.

North? A million good picks and they dont look any better this year.

Eagles, one amazing kid and we are building a team around him, like we did with nn.

But it’s a team. A champion team.

With a winning culture. It’s one thing to drop down and get picks, it’s another to stay down there loading up.

Hawthorn, Melbourne, Richmond. https://thewest.com.au/news/tigers-reject-tank-talk-ng-ya-252243

The teams that failed didn't fail because they tanked, they failed because they drafted the wrong players. If Dustin Martin goes to Melbourne are they in this conversation? No. They aren't.

Just like Saints not taking Petracca. Tank or not tank, you're ****ed if you don't draft the club changing players. Tanking just gives the chance to make the right talent calls. Has Essendon's future been better or worse because we got Parish instead of Oliver? Clearly losing another game would have given us an immensely better future rather than win that one extra game.

West Coast aren't on the up because they refused to tank, but because they got the guy that can actually change culture. If you hadn't got Reid, you would still be sucking ass right now.

What pick did Nick go at?
The Magpies traded out their future first in 2020 because they were attached to Daicos and were getting him anyway. Should he have been open to everyone, that trade would not have happened and the Pies would have held pick 2. JHF was North’s guy, leaving Daicos to Collingwood at 2.

So who did you get from that trade? Because that’s who you should be without. And that applies to each academy or father/son pick.

So, Naicos was a gift then?

Again Melbourne - a decade in the wildernesss from tanking and the afl having to step in.
