But as you say,
Not what I said.

There was only 25k tickets offered to Cats Members. Those are the facts. Would be 20k offered to Cats Members in a hypothetical 2023 final once Stage 5 is done. More if against an interstate team.

Cats fans want to go to live finals, Cats fans want their club to gain the maximum advantage given to any home team in the regular season or in finals. Cats fans struggle to make Friday Night games in Melbourne due to the constraints of time and what is possible at legal driving speeds (both train and car). Those are all facts.

Seems like a good time to revisit this thread. The capacity at Kardinia Park is now 40k and the Cats are still playing home games + home finals in Melbourne. What's the go?

If Geelong were serious they should have built an 80,000 seat stadium at minimum. AFL won't won't a weak crowd during finals.

Just going off figures from Wikipedia.

In 1954 Geelong had a population of 73,000 and Kardinia Park hosted a crowd of 49,000 in 1952. Was probably used solely for footy.

In 2010 Geelong had a population of 185,000, but KP has been redeveloped into a 40,000 seat stadium, used for multi-sport (football, cricket, soccer) and concerts.

The place is thoroughly backwards.

Apart from MCG how many AFL stadiums in Australia hold 80,000?

None

49,000 packed in like sardines with only 5000 seated -v- a state of the art facility with 35,000 seats?

Why quote 2010? We are now in 2024

That's on the bright minds who designed GMHBA then. Should have built the capacity for 100,000 people, but alas it's just collecting mothballs in September. The AFL want maximum capacity.

In 1970 Melbourne had a population of 2,499,000 and the MCG hosted a crowd of 121,696 at the VFL Grand Final.

In 2022 Melbourne had a population of over 5,000,000 and the MCG has a capacity of 100,024.

The cricket ground that Melburnians are indoctrinated to worship has regressed. :sadv1:

To me it would actually be a dumb idea. You need to win the Grand Final moreso then just making it. Playing a game at MCG a week before the final is a bigger advantage then trapping teams 100km down the road
Play all finals in Victoria Then,

Dont give non-victorian sides home finals because "You need to win the Grand Final moreso then just making it"

Not at all- entitled people these days demand seats. I used to attend when it was standing room only, when opposition supporters would pee into their empty beer cans so as not to lose their spots, and this happened at many grounds back then- very atmospheric!

Not the same thing. You also need to reward the members within that.

The above is kind of why the whole Grand Final at MCG is a big issue. If Geelong playing at Kardinia is a advantage worth keeping, then playing at the MCG is a advantage worth getting rid of yeah?

Why demand 1 advantage instead of the main one? Some shoddy contract above the ethics of the game?
