Do Geelong supporters cringe?

It's embarrassing to watch. Especially for a team of their talent, you'd think they'd play the game on its merits rather than resorting to blatant umpire manipulation.

I understand your frustration, especially when you barrack for a team full of saw dust heads who give away obvious, idiotic free kicks constantly.

Blatant umpire manipulation?? Of course all you self righteous fans know more than the AFL and its umpires.

Embarrassing.

They must. The umps may as well go down on the cats after the game. Geelong get a golden run from the umps and they have 3-4 of the biggest head ducking, knee buckling, free kick fakers ever. Selwood, chapman, johnson.
The umps seem to be onto chapman though, I laughed my head off when he ducked the other week and got his head almost knocked off and didnt get a free. Ever heard of the boy that cries wolf.

I was at the game tonight and I don't follow either team. It was a great game. There is no doubt though that the doggies got the worst of the umpiring decisions which enabled the Cats to just win the game.To suggest otherwise is being biased or brainless. Take your pick.

I couldn't agree more.

Geelong definitely had many more 50/50 decisions go their way.

It also annoys that Geelong players continually stage and milk free kicks. I'm glad when on the odd occassion the umpires see through it and don't pay it and the Geelong player ends up looking like a fool.

Geelong love to keep the ball alive ... always one more handball. They appear to get so much more time to dispose the ball when in a tackle that other teams.

Brad had the chance to win the game and did not take it.

However, Cats got so many soft goals directly or indirectly from dodgy free kicks tonight. Umps were a joke.

No, not really. Had a good laugh though when, as Gamble lay on the ground, Steve Johnson grabbed the ball, ran up to remonstrate with Dale Morris, chested him, knocked the ball free, and then demanded a 50 from the ump.

Absolutely priceless.

There were a few times tonight where the dogs won the hard ball after a cat player paused for just a second while they were playing for a free and as a result the dogs got the upper hand (if the free wasnt played). I hope it comes back to hurt them at an important time to emphasise how bad this looks.

I think the most dissapointing thing is that the cats are clearly the most exciting and skillful team to watch and they tarnish it with the playing for free kicks rubbish. They dont need to do this to win, if they focused on getting the hard ball more it would be more benificial.

We know clubs have so many specialist coaches nowadays. But surely the cats haven't got a diving coach have they? I must admit they have it down pat that the timimg looks good.

However, the tide will turn and they will get nothing from the umps in time. The umps have already cottoned onto Bartel. He doesn't get any bs frees anymore. Now if only they would stop getting sucked in by Scarlett, Chapman, Johnson, Ablett, Selwood, Mackie to name a few.

I'll give Joel Corey and Cory Enright credit for being the black sheep who don't stage.

I agree with you but if you keep getting away with it it becomes a hard habit to break. Hopefully it bites them on the bum.

Re: Geelong - a month in the tackle...

While the thread has gone completely off the rails - the OP makes a good point (even if it has been made before).

After tonight's game I fail to see how it is possible to receive a 'holding the ball' decision against these blokes.

Get spun 360 degrees, no problem - 'he eventually disposed of it in some fashion'.

Run 10 metres with the ball and get tackled; no problem - 'the ball spilled out'.

And should they find themselves taken forward in the tackle to any degree whatsoever; no problem - 'look despairingly/lovingly at the umpire and you can have a free kick for that too'.

Sickening to watch.

And no matter how desperately Cats fans try to defend/deflect this, clearly the issue has been noticed by many football followers of all allegiances, AND tonight proves it can & does influence the result of games.

That Geelong even need to try and get frees is ridiculous. I think the umpires made it clear tonight how much they love Geelong. Geelong go around and do as they please. They jump into peoples backs, they scrag, they trip, they just crash into players in marking contests with no eyes on the ball, consistently run over the mark yet nothing is ever done. On the other way they get frees and 50s when there isn't even anything there.

The one I liked the most was Harley's holding the man from Higgins in the last quarter. When I heard the whistle I was thinking there is no way Higgins gave away a free, but at the same time there was no way the umpire would give a free against Geelong inside 50 at a crucial stage in a game.

Geelong are easily the best team, but it is embarrasing to watch the treatment they get.

This staging happened in the GF last year and it did bite them on the arse as it started the 3rd quarter blitz by the Hawks. One that stands out clearly in my mind was when Scarlett threw himself out of Buddy's way who handpassed to Dew for a goal.

But Scarlett did fool Commetti at the time who commented that Scarlett had been manhandled. However, when he saw the replay he went all quiet and conceded it was a dive.

Re: Geelong - a month in the tackle...

It happens with all good teams, though. The same threads were made about the Eagles two or three years back.

Here's a radical idea. Try tackling Geelong players around the waist. Maybe that way it'd be nigh on impossible for them to duck into tackles and get free kicks for high contact. Who knows, if it's done right, you might even be able to pin the arms and win a free kick for holding the ball.

Just a thought....

Funny - I saw that exact thing happen at least half a dozen times tonight, but no free kicks were paid to the doggies. What is nigh on impossible is to get a hold in the ball free kick against Geelong

I'm really happy that I'm not the only one that notices this! Tonight Geelong were a ****ing disgrace. They play for a free kick at every opportunity where the ball goes past them in a contest. That little prick Selwood does it all the time and not to mention the little princess named Ablett. Johnson is a great player but tries to exaggerate contact at every possible chance.

Very pleased that these princesses were beaten last year after all their hard work and the great thing about tonight is that the Doggies proved that this team can be beaten this year and are a real chance to fall short yet again come September. Learnt a few valuable things tonight.

Bring it on next week Geelong you ****ing ********s.

Absolute joke were the umpires, totally sucked in by the prima donnas from sleepy hollow. S Johnson is an embarassment.
I will really enjoy beating them in September...again.

No, but i do cringe at opposition supporters who are so juvenile and one-eyed that they cannot appreciate a brilliant side and instead make pathetic recourse to some far-flung idea of "umpire bias". Grow the **** up!

Re: Geelong - a month in the tackle...

The Geelong players are typically very big bodied so it is more a case of the opposition not really laying a full tackle.

But i must admist the Ablett one pissed me off tonight.

He gets a slight tug on his jumper and then throws himself forward with his arms spead like he had just been shot.

The Italian soccer team would have been very proud.

360s
Incorrect disposals
throws

there is no way you can get a legit free against the cats at present. Don't try and defend the special treatment you currently get. Because when the wheel turns you might think there is new set of rules.

I laughed too - i wasnt at all surprised that the Greedy Squib Johnson was the first in line wanting to take the kick! The guy is an abslolute Soft Squib that milks free kicks constant,y, and he Lurks at the back of the packs waiting for the easy one , Ala Peter Sumich !

the dogs lost fair and square tonight, i will admit that, but the umpiring was absolutely discraceful !

You would be hard pressed to find more charity at the Salvation Army than what the Geelong Cats get away with on a weekly basis !

CHARITY !

cheers

wian
