Was watching the fifth quarter last night. The one with the glasses (Andy something) made the point that maybe Collingwood suporters expect to much of him. I now agree. I won't quote exactly what he said as I was tried and did not remember but I think we expect him to kick 5 goals a game and sometimes you just cant do that.

When Rocca does not kick goals Cloke and our smaller men get them. His game against Melbourne was his worst for sure and that was all his fault BUT everyone has bad days and as a forward it can be hard playing out of the goal square when the ball might not be kicked deeper than what you would like.

So Rocca bashers, It's not always his fault. He can't kick 5 goals everyweek he's 30 for god sake. I've heard people on these forums saying we should trade or delist him. You do that and the only big forward he have is Cloke. Remember by Rocca playing inside the 50 Cloke can go out and get the 8 marks or so he gets a game and set up a few goals, and can rotate with Rocca to kick a few himself.

People also bagged Clokes and Rocca's kicking for goal which has been great over the past few weeks. They kicked 9 between them this week and a few assists.

So lay off Rocca a bit. We do need him alot at the moment. Remember the 2003 grand final he missed? Yeah we got smashed . Keep in mind this was before we had Cloke so we did not have many people to kick to that day.

You could trade Rocca... If Jono Brown came to Collingwood when we tryed to buy him from Brisbane :D.

So do we expect too much of Rocca?

I expect Rocca on a bad day to kick 2-3 goals like most good forwards do. what really annoys me are the ones he should kick but misses, when he is 35m out or closer. his biggest problem (which everyone on this board knows by now) is that when he is good he is very very good and when he is having a bad day he is very very bad, very good forwards tend to find a medium he hasn't.

honeslty tho rocca is hard done by.
the disposel to him in the first half was terrible, everyone knows that rocca will beat most backmen when the ball is put up high yet most of the kicks either bounced at his feet or dropped horribly short. rocca had no chance of picking them up.

then i'd say that mick told the boys to put the ball high in rocca territory and as everyone could see, he started kicking goals

What I expect from Rocca is to at least, as a minimum, get to the drop of the ball and contest. He doesn't have to kick 5 goals every week, and to expect this is both unfair and unrealistic.

however, he should be competing, and at least ensuring the ball drops for our crummers to pounce onto.

This season he has been failing to do this a number of times. Eg. Last week.

The only games I've seen him really not try was against Melbourne. I didnt watch it last week but from what I understand we got smashed in the CENTER of the ground.

Saying Rocca plays shit when he doesn't kick any goals is a very simplistic approach on himself.

Against Brisbane we were thumped out of the centre. And the delivery that went into our forward line was shocking.

NO forward will kick a bag unless for 2 reasons:

1) It's not delivered properly into the forward line
2) They don't kick straight.

Our midfield is our team's barometer, nothing much else.

Who are these forwards that kick 2-3 goals on bad days?
Where do you people pull this shit from? There is no forward in the AFL thats capable of producing week in week out. There is not ONE SINGLE AFL forward that is capable in this day and age. If we didnt have Rocca, and his presence, even on a bad day, then we would be a whole lot worse.

Rocca does more then most people think. He gets treated a bit to harshly by the media and our supporters because he doesnt kick 5 goals every week but look at what else he does. He always makes a contest and brings other players into the game. He is a better player then most people think

No we dont expect too much, just 60-70 goals a year from our no1 forward, now if thats too much then he should be delisted and we should chase Fev

why would we chase fev with our young list you do not want a player with that attitude at the club spesh when we have promising developing fowards. Look at the end of the year how many full fowards have kicked 60-70 goals i dare say the number won't be too high. The guy has been leading the comp for contested marks i think that is a fairly valuable stat. Actually look at the clubs with goal kickers above 60 and where they finish on the ladder. I dare say west coast and geelong will stuggle to have anyone kicking those numbers north melbourne etc etc. What is important is the contest that your key foward provides Rocca is usually very reliable for that

Very well put...

Not really, 50-60 goals should be his return, he is struggling a bit in thsi regard but if he can get 14 more goals in the remaining 4 games it will take him to 50 for the season, a solid season in terms of goal kicking.

It is his presence and contested marking ability that is sooo important, he leads the league by miles in this category, he can crash packs, he can actually hurt people with big bumps........no other forward does this for us yet!

Have a look at how pathetic Lloyd has been the last couple of weeks, all forwards struggle when the team is struggling, but at least A.Rocca gives a presence and can take a grab, Lloyd just flops and sooks at the umpire!

Im not saying Rocca is the only forward to have bad days and not kick goals but Pavlich, Brad johnson, Johnathan Brown, Matthew Lloyd and Scott Lucas have far less, and most times on a bad day will still kick 2 goals a game. Rocca on bad days struggles to get 5 kicks.

I have always been a fan of Anthony Rocca and always believed he is the most important player on our list. He has always been a good but not great layer. As far as CHF’s go he is as good as I can remember us having. Butch Edwards may have had him covered had his knees held up. Carman was a better player but a make shift CHF and only shone brightly f0or a short time.

That said Anthony Rocca is too bad too often. Do we expect too much? I don’t think so. In fact I think as a general rule we expect and demand too little of most of our players. We made excuses for Tarrant for years.

Regardless, Rocca remains the key and that won’t change for a while yet. We are stuck with his flawed genius.

Good call. I assume this is a typo or is he supposedly a dud root.

I'm really liking what I see in Trav Cloke. I see him being our best CHF for a very long time.

I get what you mean. But in this day and age, there is no chance you can expect a forward to be kicking goals week in week out. It is quite common for forwards to be inconsistent. Its up to the ones like Cloke, who move up the field, to get a bit of the footy and use it. It is midfielders that need to always be consistent because they control the way a game goes. Forwards are all at the mercy of their midfielders in every AFL side.

when tarrant left i expected alot from him but cloke has taken the pressure off all they both have to do is kick 4 each every game and collingwood will win every game

Rocca is a good attributes such as the crash & bash and a decent goalkicker, but on his bad days he does not have a presence and you can barely notice him playing.
